100% deserved win. Beautiful goal. Great game by spain. I expected more from Germany but spaniards have only themselves to thank for the win.

Guys, I have to say I'm a bit surprised by this SuperSpain opinions... I mean those players are undoubtedly good in the middle, but also pretty inefficient around the goal. Also, I'd like to see team like The Netherlands to 'examine' their defence properly, not that powerless Germans.

But all in all, they were much better than Germans this evening, no doubt about it. Where the hell are you, Good Old Mighty Germany? Where do you have all that Jürgen Klinsmanns, Oliver Bierhoffs and Oliver Khans?

Congrats to Spain :)

Bad referee (not the worst though).
wat
Really, the only thing the ref did wrong was missing Silva's headbutt. All refs miss things that go on on the pitch, and the rest of the match consisted of excellent refereeing. Hell, refereeing all around was excellent this Cup.

Also, obvious deserved win by Spain. At least the Germans don't get another win.

I find it a bit weird how everyone pretends this was a victory of beautiful football over ugly football.

Both Germany and Spain played beautiful football for most of this cup. Germany was crap towards the end of its group phase, Spain was crap in its first match, but both teams played pretty daring, nose-forwards football, especially after Germany took out Gomez and put in Schweinsteiger.

So what the fuck, guys? This isn't a style over efficiency thing, it's two teams with a lot of technical ability, but one was just better at it.

Hell, there were no ugly teams from the quarter-finals onwards except Turkey, Croatia and (arguably) Italy. This was an EC of enchanting football, whether it be Spain, Germany, Portugal, The Netherlands or Russia.

The 5-man short-pass midfield is going to turn into an international standard now. There's not a lot of countries or teams that have the quality to carry it though, but when it works - boy, does it work. Great fun to watch.

Also: fuck the nominations for player of the tournament. They always end up just selecting a striker or offensive midfielder who scored some pretty goals. Fuck that. If I were to name 5 players that meant most for their team (and that should be the most important determinanet) this EC, it would be van der Sar, Boruc, Akinfeev, Aurelia and Semak. 3 keepers and 2 defensive midfielders. Why? Because those are the most important positions, pure and simple.

EDIT: and yep, predictably enough: Xavi Hernández is Player of the Tournament

I'm also not impressed by the team of the tournament, but it's funny that all the forwards come from Russia and Spain.

I think spain played A LOT better then germany last night.Germany was also a good team druing the tournament but last night they seemed to be very tired.spain scored only one goal but they really didn't gave any chances to germany.

The difference was that Spain could actually pull it off. Germany against Turkey and Germany against Spain were anything but beautiful. Hell, I'd say that the only beatiful matches they played were against Poland and Portugal.

That's not to say that Spain did that much better, they weren't that great against Italy or during the group phase either.

Sure, but it's not being presented as Germany trying but not pulling it off. The papers are full of this beauty-over-Teamgeist bullshit. And that's crap, it really is.

Hmh. I would squeeze Senna there, somewhere. Seriously, without him, Spain would not be in the final, he was like a huge sword cutting off an insane amount of attacks, winning most of his tackles, and making very, very few mistakes (i can only remember one that standed out, in the match vs Russia when he had a bad pass).

I've also noticed, that, besides Rustu and Lehmann, this tournament had an array of very much in-form goalies. It makes it all the more amazing that so many goals were scored throughout it.

Seriously, i thought, before the tournament, that it would be dominated by defensive play, and it turned out there were only two really defensive playing teams, both of which didn't reach the semis (Greece and Italy). It was a pleasant surprise, especially after the last Euro and WC.

Grats to Spain. Maybe not the best team of the tournament (Russia was the best team for me, only they simply went and got themselves completely exhausted physically, didn't have anything left for Spain), but a deserved victory to be sure.

They have a point, the Spanish players had a lot more expertise in controlling the ball and doing some neat tricks, all the Germans did was try to make use of their physical superiority and try to outrun the us.
I hate the way Germany plays, they look like a bunch of mechanical puppets.

See, this kind of nonsense.

Did everyone up and forget what *real* German play looks like. If they were playing the REAL German style, I doubt Spain would have scored.

They may not be as frivolous as Portugal or the Netherlands, but that does not make them an ugly team.

Well I live in Germany, they play a good soccer, of course ...
But the only thing that I want to say is:
Gracias Torres! E viva España!

The german fans had too much of optimism, and I hate that...
Spain was in the final game much better, and won deserved.
Thank you España!
I hate the pseudo Germans like Podolski, Klose, and much more...

*fiesta* :D

You mean like Aragones saying "Spain is better than Germany"?

You mean Marcos Senna was born Spanish?

Last time I checked...no.

Of course no
It's a fact that Germany is in the football history more successfully than Spain,
but in that tournament played Spain better, also in the final.

10 years ago Germany had a weak team with old players...
The most fans said: "I'm happy if our team can qualify for the quaterfinals..."
Now they got a good team, you heard everywhere:
"We will win this tournament, why? Because we will win also 2010!!!!"
Such statements are ridiculous...

Yes, you right, I know that, he was born in Brazil.
But the germans got 3 "ex-polish" players:
Piotr Trochowski, Lukas Podolski and Miroslav Klose.
And there a few players from other countries:
Oliver Neuville: born in Switzerland
Kevin Kurányi: born in Brazil

I have not really a problem with that,
only with the 3 polish players, because I was born in Poland too,
and that players are "traitors" in my eyes :P

Well, maybe they are born in poland, but if they have german citizenship (is it the right word for this?), they are germans.

Mechanized Football?

Come on give me a break from that bullshit!

Our last two games were weak. So what? Shit happens. But people tend to forget the good moments and games way to fast.

So supporting your team and being an optimist is ridiculous to you?

Having a different citizenship than the country you have been born is being a traitor?

You Sir are an...

Spain deserved to win.

Well... there is a huge difference by supporting a team or talking crap...
Supporting: "Noch ein Tor, Deutschland vor!"
Talking crap: "We are the best, we will win this EURO, because wie will also win the Word Cup!"

I wrote "traitor" with ---> " " <--- and postet it also with smileys: :P
It's just fun, so don't take it seriously...

I did, and i didn't. Depends on where you draw the line of 'defensive football', and in my humble opinion, they weren't hiding behind a double guard as much as the Greeks and Italians. But yeah, still more defense than offense there, but without Eduardo, what could they do \:D/

Also, about this whole 'traitor' business, what a truckload of steaming dog shit. It pisses me off so much when i hear my fellow poles ragtalk Podolski and Klose for playing for Germany. Some Polish politicians even wanted to strip Podolski from his Polish citizenship after he put two in vs us.

Germany gave him everything that Poland couldn't, football wise. If he'd decide to move here after he was old enough to play professionally, that would be the biggest mistake of his career, coz he would simply wither away in our 'grand' conditions. Same goes for Podolski and Trochowski. If we want to keep players like that for ourselves, we need to have proper infrastructure, healthy management and get rid of that sick 'You leave/don't come back coz it sucks here and want a proper job? Fuck you, scumbag!' mentality, carried on but the Duck Commando.

That and what's wrong with playing for the nation you associate yourself with. It's not like they're pulling off an Ailton.

Didn't your prime minister just say you'll win in 2010?

And there a few players from other countries:
Oliver Neuville: born in Switzerland
Kevin Kurányi: born in Brazil

Trochowski - played for St. Pauli in 1997, which means he's been in Germany for at least 11 years, at age 13
Podolski - an ethnic German who has been living in Germany since he was age 2
Klose - moved to Germany at age 7
Neuville - his father was German, his mother Italian, he has nationality of both countries and elected to play for Germany
Kurányi - his father is German-Hungarian, he opted to play for Germany
Common point: all these guys had the German nationality before they started playing football (not sure about Trochowski, but the others do)

Marcos Senna - born in Brazil, of Brazilian descent, played in Brazil until 2002 (age 26), then moved to Villareal and was given Spanish citizenship in 2006.

So, the German team has people of German descent and/or people who moved to Germany at a young age.

The Spanish team has a guy who moved from Brazil at a late age and was then smuggled into Spanish citizenship in the way players like Aurelio of Turkey and Roger Guerreiro for Poland.

You're really, really on the wrong side of the fence to complain about this practice, y'know.

Sorry, no, Croatia was pretty much the most defensive team this EC.

Funny thing is: Podolski doesn't have Polish citizenship. He was never Polish.[/quote]
