Voice acting - Liam Neeson has lead role in Fallout 3

Well, I just presented it to you as it was presented to me. I too think it's a bit strange that Killian supposedly is making his reprise here. However, the author IS talking about FO3, no doubt about it. And the site itself is usually quite reliable.

Below is a very quick and rough translation of the webpage (with a link to the source on the bottom). If there is something about my translation that seems unclear, don't hesitate to ask me.

Famous voices in Fallout 3
by Mikael Harstad Groven, May 9th 2007

The cast of Bethesda's Fallout 3 has now been made official. Liam Neeson will be your father.

Hollywood star Liam Neeson is going to have an important role in Fallout 3 from Bethesda Softworks. Neeson will play the father of the game's protagonist - a role that supposedly has been tailor made for the Irish actor.

"This role was written with Liam in mind, and provides the dramatic tone for the entire game", says Todd Howard, Executive Producer of Fallout 3, in a press release.

This is the second time Neeson will participate in a computer game. Batman Begins was his debut in the interactive scene. The actor is also well known as Qui-Gon in the movie Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.

"It's been a pleasure bringing the father to life and working with the wonderfully talented people at Bethesda on Fallout 3. I hope the fans of the franchise and the game will be excited by the result.", says Neeson

The rest of the cast includes Keith David (They Live), Clancy Brown (Highlander), Ron Perlman (Hellboy), Richard Dean Anderson (MacGyver), Brad Garrett (Everybody Loves Raymond), Tony Shalhoub (Monk), David Warner (Tron), and CCH Pounder (The Shield).

There is very little information about Bethesda's next big game, but a countdown for the first trailer has started on the game's official webpage. Right now there are 27 days left. There are also a lot of exciting concept illustrations on this webpage.

That'd be a good cast - if true. But I find it hard to believe it is true without other references elsewhere.

Yeah, the horribly unfitting accent. As far as I know, there's a shitload of people on the East Coast who are of Irish ancestry.

An accent isn't really hereditary. If the game starts off post war, it's not good. Maybe if it shows the war or some of that crap, and your father is newly immigrated.

It's not true. The guy that wrote that screwed up.

Why?! Why must the one bright hope in the pit of darkness be dashed! Crumpled like so much paper at the desk of a Hollywood hack.

Maybe he'll just put on his Qui-Gon Jinn voice. It's a fairly neutral accent.

Sigh... You think that a professional Hollywood actor can't act without an accent?

We're not talking about Arnold Schwarzenegger here...

I know, but I think it's rare for an actor (even one of high caliber) to pull of a good and convincing accent, especially to the same standard as they usually are.

Liam Neeson isn't that bad of a voice actor. It will be sort of hard hearing Quai Gon Jinn as 'your father' in the game though.

"Go with the force, Obi Wa.. er, I mean.. Enlightened One.."

Liam's a great actor and has a great voice. As far as the Father figure thing goes hopefully you can just kill him if you want to. You know if your bored and just dont wanna listen any more. He tells you your first quest is to milk the Brahmin or somthin, and pow shot to the face. That would be great.

Ugh, I hated that "feature" in Oblivion. If I want to kill vital characters, I should be able to. At least in Morrowind it just told you you'd messed up the main quest by killing them.

Mind you, a truly excellent game would be able to cope with the loss of a main character. Not likely though, it would require quite a bit of redundancy, just in case you happened to kill several major characters.

Well ironically, Fallout did just that to a certain extent. Given it's multiple solutions to quests, you could jump through hoops for an NPC.. or you could just kill him and barge in Rambo style. The Cathedral is a good example. A handful of key characters, all of whom can be killed without breaking the main quest.

And before anyone says it, yes even Fallout had the you-can-never-kill-me Overseer. But at least he had two bloody big guns to back him up.

...

Yes, Ironically. Not that it was implied.

And before anyone says it, yes even Fallout had the you-can-never-kill-me Overseer. But at least he had two bloody big guns to back him up.
At least there was some "reason" why you couldn't kill him, even if it wasn't exactly the thing preventing you from doing so.
Mind, Fallout 2 prevented you from exterminating Arroyo, so I guess the series is not blameless.

True, Arroyo was annoying. Though at least you could gun them down and gloat over their bloody corpses before game over.
However, the sheer level of you-can't-kill idiocy in Oblivion broke new bounderies. Even one of the goddamn city-guards were unkillable, leading to stupid situations where you break the law, kill the guard only to have him rise up and give you the same "you broke the law!" greeting again and again and again..
