What did Bethesda actually do better than Black Isle?

The combining of skills shouldn't anger anyone. Last I recall, Van Buren was going to us a similar scheme... Incorporating all ranged weapons (Big guns, small guns and energy weapons) under one skill... as well as consolidating First Aid and Doctor into Medic... and Sneaking and Locking under Security.

I am not saying Beth's system was perfect... but you will have to admit they did allow more use for skills and some ways perks. Of course, its work in progress.

Spent more money on advertising than they likely did on the development of the game.

Beat me to it Grimhound! I'd say they bribed more reviewers as well. I can remember many crap reviews from idiot cunts back in the day for Fallout 1 and 2. Here we get nary a critical remark, just like with Oblivion. Shit, ok they never played the first ones(maybe) but even as a RPG in it's own right it has enough flaws not to give the fucking thing 95% or more!

Sadly, that's the case with most big games these days. Not only that, but even when reviewers aren't paid off, there is so much score inflation that you can't give a game below an 8.5 (or a highly anticipated game below a 9.0) without being ostracized. What's the point of game reviews if you pander to those who demand high scores?

I remember when GameSpot gave Zelda: Twilight Princess an 8.8 and people freaked. That's a really good score!

I think I was more angered at the fact most of SPECIAL in FO3 is largely useless and/or homogenized. I think the biggest two blows to SPECIAL were unlinking STR reqs from weapons and bobbleheads. Also, tag skills don't feel as important a selection now :(

Now it's time to fear 2011-2012.

Knowing Bethesda, they're probably already started another beautiful story line, unless we're to expect elder scrolls 5 2009-10

You know what, they didn't do a damn thing better. Why is when I go into the tunnel under the jefferson memorial, and try to use the pipe controls all I get is a message that says "You can't use this right now."

Why? Why can't I use this right now? Is it rusty? Is it somehow locked, preventing me from using it? Am I going to be able to use it later? Why, when I use it later, am I able to? Is it because some magical green leprichaun appeared and told me that I could use it because his lucky charms dictated this to be so? Or is it more convenient for Bethsoft to simply say "You cannot use this right now." That right there, that little stupid message, is exactly what is WRONG with this game. Not even the courtesy of an explanation as to WHY I cannot use the pipe, it simply says "not right now." If it were Fallout 1 or Fallout two, there would be a reason. There would be a reason why we can't use the pipe control, because there needs to be a reason. It cannot simply be some cheap cookie-cutter video game mechanic to make it more controlled that prevents you from using something.

Another small detail that shows how unimaginative and incompetent or lazy beth designers/writers are

Deathclaws were pretty much as easy as Enclave soldiers, and those were easy to kill.

I wish the badass factor was increased in this game, its the same problem I had with oblivion. If I'm not wearing power armor , and facing someone with power armor I should have a very hard time killing them. If I have power armor, and a mutant has a baseball bat, I shouldn't get hurt.

In F1 and 2 getting power armor was pretty much "You are a certified BAMF" , and while Bethesda sorta did that with the whole Gunny attunement thing, it was just not as awesome as in F1/2.
