What Fallout New Vegas was supposed to be

Song "Orange colored sky" was supposed to play on the radio, but due to a bug whenever it's supposed to play "Johny Guitar" plays instead.

Here's New Vegas TV ad with "Orange colored sky" in the background.

Orange Colored Sky never played on radio? Are you sure?
I could swear that I've heard it several times. Then again, I could be wrong. I do remember it from the trailer.

No Obsidian wanted the game to take place between Fallout 2 and Bethesda's Fallout 3

Ah, I misremembered.

First time I heard that Sawyer once said that.

I think it was back when he posted in Formspring. A long time ago. But I do remember reading him mention it twice (the other time a year or two ago).

It's part of FO4 DC radio, so maybe you remember it from there?

That bug actually explains why Johny Guitar plays so often.

I've never played FO4, so I guess my memory is wrong. Now that I think about it, I did have a FNV radio songs playlist on my mp3 player back in the day, so I imagine I heard it there a lot.

I remember a short conversation that struck me as odd with Joana in Bye Bye Love. After telling me she was going to take Carlitos out of New Vegas, I struck up an interaction and she had this to say as they were leaving the strip

"This is where we've been staying" or something along those lines as if they were in an entirely new location. Makes me think they were originally going to re-appear in another settlement shortly after and the Courier could have stumbled upon them once again.

I didn't find much in that video that wasn't listed here. More details on parts of it but that seems to be about it. MCA wanted to have more companions tied to the main plot but they decided against it. He seems to still hold the opinion that Yes Man, Vulpes, Benny, and Ulysses would have been great companions in the game. Cass also had a lot more reactive lines and things to say in the game originally that didn't make it.

I really do wish we could see what New Vegas could have been but it would require a ton of work. Then whoever worked on it would have to go through what to include and what to keep out, things to change between the old design and the stuff that wasn't cut. I'd be down to somehow help that but it's probably too much of a pipedream and something that would likely have some fans disappointed with the decisions the modders made.

Vulpes as a companion if you sided with the Legion sounds awesome, because there's no Legion aligned companion. I really think this one should have made into the final release.

Plus having him as a companion could lead to having dialogue where he explains a lot of stuff about the Legion.

That would have been interesting if those four characters could have been made into companions.
While right now there are some companions who are neutral or ambivalent towards the Legion a pro Legion could have balanced the pro NCR ones out.
Perhaps it could even have led to a clash between you and your companions when they find you in the company of Vulpes.

We already know Ulysses was meant to be a companion from the start and that the player was suppose to be able to recruit him at the Wolfhorn Farm.
(personally I had this idea that depending on who you help out during the main campaign that Ulysses would decide on who to nuke in Lonesome Road. Right before the second battle of Hoover Dam he would disappear but leave a message for you behind to follow him to the Divide to test the strength of your conviction)

Benny as a companion could have been interesting. Imagine that you go for the Yes Man ending and Benny decides one last gambit to take Vegas for himself, the moment you defeat General Oliver or Legate Lanius, he and the chairmen or Khans or some other cronies show up and makes it clear to you that he is going to take over now.

Yes Man, well it would be nice to have a Securitron companion though I would balance it so out that it would have to have missiles or grenades before it could actually use those in battles.
