It's no longer a role-playing game. You can't role-play. That much is objectively clear. I'd say for genre classification it is: Action FPS However, I think Fallout 4 fits better into a new category I'd define as: Offline MMO because of its procedurally generated quests and minecraft emulation. I'd describe it as: On-rails open world shoot-and-loot. I certainly would not be filing this game under RPG as it says on Steam. What would you classify the game as? I expect a lot of people will say "Action FPS" as well.
I wouldn't classify it as an FPS simply because you can play the entire game without shooting a gun and in third person. I would go with open world action game that for some reason comes up in a search for an RPG.
I'll summarize what this game is: It tries to be everything and ends up being absolutely nothing. It tries to be an RPG, it fails. It tries to be a building simulator, Minecraft does it far better, Hell, the Real Time Settler mod for New Vegas does it better. It tries to be an "open sandbox" type of game, but Gmod blows it out of the water when it comes to unlimited freedom to do whatever. It fails as a Survival game because trying to crank up the difficulty just turns everything into a massive bullet sponge, making the game completely unfair to the player. And so forth. It fails spectacularly at every single thing it tries to do, it's embarrassing.
It's a game with Shooting Elements, RPG Elements, City Building Elements, ECT. It's essentially a Jack of All Trades, Master of None.
Me too. I would say it is a single player MMO too... If that doesn't work I would say its an adventure shooter with crafting make the player god in less than 10 levels game.
