What would happen in your area in Fallout

It Wandered In From the Wastes
This is just for discussion, and of course, those living in California, DC, or Vegas know how the fallout world happens, but for those who live elsewhere, what do you imagine your area being like?

For example

NC Mountains near Boone, NC

When the Bombs Fell, the North Carolina Industrial belt was nuked hard, from Gastona-Charlotte and up the urban crescent though Raleigh Durham was pounded by nukes, however there is large rural areas both in the Mountains and on the coast.

The NC mountains depend on the Blue Ridge Parkway and I-40 to move across the north Carolina Badlands. The Coastal regions have become much more rural and developed its own culture, with the "broken banks" being canon. Enough of Duke, UNC Chapel Hill and North Carolina State (and NC A&T) survived in the Raleigh Durham area to build a nucleus of high tech know how. Wild mutated Boars roam the Eastern regions, and are headed west.

Some of the Western NC Universities such as App. State and WCU still exist in some form, providing training and help like the Followers of the Apocalypse. Also, surviving troops in the Fort Bragg and Fort Lagune<sp> area form a basis of a ranger movement, providing security and merge with the power in the Eastern part of the State. While the Western mountain region has formed its own government of Franklin, which includes regions of Tennessee (TVA power plants provide power) and south-west Virginia.

The Gastonia-Charlotte area was nuked heavily, and there is large amount of Ghouls in the area, ironic as many where bankers pre-war.

I doubt that anything would survive the bombings here, seeing as how relatively close all big cities are to each other in germany.

The local docks, steel manufacturing, chemical plants and other industry would be consumed in nuclear fire - probably from France - and the outlaying suburbs and towns of Middlesbrough and Billingham would decend into London Riot levels of chaos.

I don't think this place would be bombed at all. It would suffer more from economical colapse than from nuclear hell.

My area is so lifeless that most likely nothing would change. Sad, i know. There would probably be just less traffic.

I have spent some effort doing a "fallout" for the area around where I live. I have gone so far as to pull out actual Civil Defense plans for the area from the 1950s-1960s. I have also looked up many of the National Guard and miliary bases (camps and airstrips) in the area.

At this point i have about 60 pages typed info on it... it could be a PnP game (if I could settle on a system to use)

This is a hard one, but not one that I have not discussed in the past... Having been a retail manager for a military surplus business, I spent a great deal of time visiting with survivalist types.

Most people seem to underestimate the strategic value of Arkansas. Aside from natural resources, AR is also part of a prime travel corridor, thanks largely to I-40. hwy 64, Hwy 65, AR river, and MS river.
AR also has a great deal of value as farm land, able to produce large amounts of produce and meat throughout much of the year.

In AR, we have the C-130 training center, at Jacksonville Air Force Base. Then we have Fort Chaffee, Pine Bluff Arsenal. So, an opposing force would have to use a soft attack to gain the region, but use enough air and ground forces to overcome the existing US military forces.
Also, the general mentality of the population would have to be considered as there is a general consensus of resistance which seems to be ingrained in the people. Aside from the mentality, they also typically have possession of or near immediate access to firearms... along with the skill and ability to use them. The down side being that they lack any formal organization and direct communication to mount a proper resistance.

You could count on the immediate area of a resistance force to be well protected but cooperation with those outside the community would be rare at best.

My own town is a "choke point" location, having the 1-40, hwy64/65, and Arkansas River junctions. So, my own city would be under immediate threat from opposing forces.... the god news is that this location would probably be preserved, though heavy occupation could be expected.

Considering only a few of the fact, one could theorize that in a post apocalyptic world, there would be a lot clashes in the beginning, but a majority of the structures would probably remain intact and trade routs preserved. In fact, my immediate location would likely serve as a major hub for trade and travel.

Communities would probably be self sufficient but open to trade. While they would defend what they have, one should not expect assistance from them beyond the immediate area... unless it is in their best interest to do so.

Those in rural areas, but near the city, would most likely exist in small pockets... most likely in family units. Mainly this would probably be in the areas just north of the city, in the foot hills of the Ozark Mountain range.

Further north, one could expect that several close knit groups would be protective of their areas, mainly where they can find shelter at various caves and cave systems... many of which have a high population of wild game and ready water sources.

In the southern region of AR, the land is mainly flat and used to produce cotton. While there are several towns, they do not have large populations. Most of the people are small family units which are scattered throughout the region.

Due to a lack of education in the area and the pronounced poverty, and probable lack or trade opportunities, one could easily consider that these people would flee to the northern region of the state. Some would stay put but would probably not act as any kind of threat... and simply exist on what they could get on their own. The almost same could probably be said for the NE region of the state.

At least, that is how I imagine it.....

I currently live near the Glow, so I better move if a war seems imminent. Before that I lived in the Mojave Desert . So I guess there isn't much mystery left for me.

New york would probably get saturation bombed. Us Staten Islanders would all become ghouls :(.

If they starting bombing the place where I live it's already too late. It means they ran out of things to bomb.

I can't really figure out what would happen to me. I live in south-eastern New England and i dont know if there is anything of importance here. Anyone got an idea?

I think fort dix is around there. I dunno about much else though.

I know New York would get bombed, but I doubt they'd bomb Long Island directly. It'd probably end up being similar to Point Lookout.

Being from cumbria, I doubt we would get nuked at all ( most people don't even know where we are :L) and if we did it would be one or two on the local air force base.

my town would still be a terrible place to live full of chavs and druggies :/ I suppose the government might flee to cumbria to escape the nuclear war and we could become the center of rebuilding in the U.K after the radiation levels drop

Exactly this for me, i'm a bit further north than I think you are, so i'm closer to Newcastle, so really where I live would become would be hemmed in by radiation, but radiation free it seems. Maybe Seaham could be the center of a new and bountiful East Durham Empire........no.

i bet ohio would be intact not much is really here and if its not irradeaed we would use lake erie as a water source
