Who are the most poorly voice-acted/poorly cast characters in New Vegas?

@CerberusGate

Awesome. Glad to hear that about the alice actress.

Regarding the Dons. Let's assume I can't get the 2nd guy to redo it. He was *very* difficult to work with. He refused outright to redo lines and told me I had to pay him additional for him to redo it. Finally, I just paid him more and his redo still wasn't where I wanted it. If I ask him to redo his lines, I'll end up paying more and getting the same results. Really frustrating because all 173 of the other actors I cast gladly offered to redo thier lines at no charge. But as it stands, if I had to just choose between the two as-is, should I go with 2?

Oh... in that case, go with 1 then. I'd rather have the right inflections and tone than appropriate age (like the original voice actress for Alice though you found one that could do both). Plus if he's particularly uncooperative when it came to re-doing lines, it may take up more time to get him to do a proper take .
It's probably not worth your time to use someone like that.

Awesome. Thanks man!

Sorry for bumping this but have been struggling mightily with finding General Oliver Lee actors. How does this guy work?

General Oliver Lee by Domjam <--
For me at least, he sounds more fitting for someone like Vulpes Inculta rather than General Lee Oliver (Vulpes definitely does not need a re-voice). He sounds too sinister and sneaky for a man infamous for being a wait-and-see general.

Man, I'm not sure how to voice this guy.

I've got two groups of people.

First group says he needs to sound like a general (obviously) but he should sound badass ...something at the level of Legate Lanius. Lots of people felt *really* disappointed with original actor. They felt it should have been a high-priced actor for someone at this level

Then the second group says he's gotta sound like an incompetent idiot...but still has to sound like a general.

So here's my qualm.

Is he supposed to sound like the general in the 1800-General commercials? That typical General voice.

Or can he sound like a general/colonel in games like Call of Duty, Splinter Cell and Metal Gear Solid.

In terms of acting and actors who could pull off the script, it's easier if the general doesn't sound like a dumbass and actually sounds somewhat respectable but I do understand lore comes first. But this is the one role I have not been able to fill. I am getting two different things that people want for this guy.

That sounds like quite the dilemma.

Not sure if this helps but I'll tell you the impression I got of General Lee Oliver from playing the game:
He's someone who can look and sound the part but when you look closely at him, you can tell that he's not good for the position he's in. Lee Oliver is the kind of person who wants to get fame and glory but is out for himself mostly. A two-faced git for lack of a better term. He can probably look and sound the part of a modern military commander like in CoD, SC and MGS(which is probably why he got his position despite his incompetence) but probably drops the badass general act in private and sounds more shifty during the private conversations. It kinda reflects the current state of the NCR with more corrupt or at the very least, selfish individuals (like Cassandra Moore, Aaron Kimball or Lee Oliver) rising in power and tarnishing the NCR institution (which brings up a negative trait of the NCR faction, namely corruption due to individuals with selfish agendas).

Maybe you could get an actor who can change Lee's manner of speaking depending on the situation (like a private discussion with the Courier with his shiftier voice and the badass general voice when in public but with the same actor)? Hope this helps in any case.

My say in the matter. Maybe try a General Richard Nixon approach? It's a little from left field... but it could just work, and be different enough to make the character memorable, and calls a lot of what's just stored in pop culture memory.

Hm, I like the interpretation Cerberus has, he should put on a show in front of his soldiers but sound like a scared little shit when he approaches you to "hand you a cigar". In the end I don't care so long as Emerson Brooks is replaced, he wasn't good in that role.

actually find Sunny Smiles to be rather poorly voice acted. She lacks inflection in her voice, at at times she sounds almost robotic. She's the only character in the game I actual get bored of. I know this will probably be an unpopular opinion, but that's really all it is. An opiniion.

@Atlas

You're not the first who mentioned her. Lot of people didn't like her too. But a lot of people liked her too. I erred on the side of caution and left her intact. So far, if I see there's opposition, I left it intact. As an example, some people didn't like Benny, Oliver Swanick, Mister Fantastic but people liked him too so I left him alone.

Got another audition for the General!

How do these work?

Audition #29 <------

Audition #30 <------

here are the audition lines:

{Player just won the battle} Caesar on the cross, been a long time since I've seen the kind of work you've laid down today... a *damn* long time

{Wistful} And the screams of those Legion bastards as they kicked dirt running East... like a choir of angels to my ears.Speaking of - that crazy lightshow over the Fort, what the fuck was that, some kind of thumb from God you called down?

(laughing) Amazing, fuckin amazing.

{Uneasy} Guess it ain't no secret how you, uh.....(interrupted) (disturbed by soldiers with guns pointing at thim) .What's going on here? .... Tell them to put their weapons down. (Nervous) I.......(clears throat) I was just reaching in my coat to give you a cigar.

(About to be killed) (Frightened) What's going on here? Stay back! Tell them to stay back!

They want *me* to withdraw *my* troops! We just held the dam! (laughing angrily) (Then cold) I'm not doing this. {Cold, furious} This report.....I'll use it to wipe my ass. If you think after everything that's happened, I'm going to grab my ankles and take it like the Legion...you...

(Determination) (Conviction) We now have a chance to take the fight to them. They'll play by *our* rules. We're planning out a major initiative on The Fort. I've made calls to all of our allies to join forces with our troops.

The Legion blocked the West sector?! .......(breathe out heavily) .........(mutters) Shit.....................

(says to you) (Determined) (conviction). We're *still* holding this place down.My men and I are soldiers. We share an obligation to follow orders. And our orders are to hold this dam.I will see that our orders are carried through to the end. That's what a good soldier does.

{Cold} Who the fuck do you think you are? You want *me* to just leave? I'm not leaving!

(determination) (conviction) (angry) I will *not* back down. My men and I will hold down this fort.

{Cold} Look, I know you're riding high right now, but let me tell you - you ain't pissing on me right now, you're pissing on the Bear.My men and my reinforcements will be here. You don't want to fuck with me

(challenging) Do it. (laughing angrily) I'm not leaving.

Audition #30 sounds pretty good for Oliver with a balance of charisma and shiftier undertones to sound like something in between. Audition #29 is a little too gruff and bombastic but that's my opinion on it. I did find the read for the word "Shit......." to be more hilarious with #29 but I think that's what sold me on #30 since that line may not have been intended to make you laugh.

So I just met Canyon Runner in Cottonwood Cove, and the voice-acting doesn't seem fit the dialogue he was given. I don't know, it feels, for the lack of better words, flat and empty.

I think you already said you've revoiced generic characters in important areas (like NCR soldiers at their relative forts), have you done the same with the generic Chairmen at the Tops by any chance? The whole "Nyeh heh heh, there's the high roller!" thing is somewhat annoying.
While I'm at it, I can't remember if Swank was voiced very well, anyone remember the quality of his voice?

Swank's performance is actually pretty decent. It's got the whole, "ring-a-ding-ding baby" thing down. The only problem with it is that he was voiced by Jesse Burch, who voiced alot of male characters in the game.

I'm not sure if you've already got this covered, but only now I met 10 of Spades in my 2nd playthrough, and realized he's voiced by the same guy voicing other NPCs. His effort in voice-acting a stuttering guy was decent, but when he's not I could immediately notice THAT voice again.

Otho's voice-acting isn't great. Very generic for a guy in charge of an arena.

Otho <--- (Otho acts differently if you are a man or if you are a woman)
