Who else here LIKED Fallout 4?

One of my biggest complaints with Fallout 4 is the worlds reaction to itself. I never talked much about it, but there is a believably with these franchise games where the world follows it's own rules. NV is probably the best example. Groups that patrol the roads can die and often do. As no one is essential, more effort was put on to "can these people survive the world that they exist in". Obsidian wouldn't place an NPC up against a group of people who is essential to the main story, unless that person is relatively able to take care of themselves. Fallout 4 has the story of the Concord crew traveling from Quincy to Concord because of a vision. There is a mod that removes the essential flag from all NPCs. Preston dies on the roof in Concord because his gun sucks, has a piss poor reload time rate of fire. If you follow him from Sanctuary to the Castle and there is a battle, he will literally take any weapon, even a switchblade as every weapon in the game has a better damage per second.

The question is, if they were 13 and now they are 5, +- Clint and Baker, weapons range from base pipe to base laser musket, 1dt, 1et or 0dt, they would not have survived the journey.

That entire group should be dead when you start the game.

Because they are not properly geared for what they have done, it breaks suspension of disbelief.

Settlers who are in fear of dying never think to get a better weapon or armor, why would they need to? They can only die if you kill them or it is a special event.

The fact that a nameless fuck can survive an onslaught because of this but the player will get owned is unbalanced and makes the game world unbelievable.

My dog can't die, but I can.

Some fuck inside the third rail can't die, but I can.

Not interested in discussing-

This^ so much this. The world makes no sense whatsoever. Whose idea was it to put 2 settlements in between a super mutant encampment and a factory run by pyromaniacs? There's just so much fundamentally wrong with the Commonwealth. I don't think they tried. I think Bethesda just plonked stuff down wherever they pleased. It's not TES, it's Fallout, why should they care that someone else's franchise goes down the gutter?

I'm not good at video editing, and I am an old time fan of Pee-wee's playhouse, so no disrespect to that show or cast, but it's sad that you can mute this video:

While playing the music from this video:

and the music feels like it was made for Video #1. I like Pee-wees play house as a wacky zany kid's show. I don't want Fallout to be Pee-wee's big adventure.

Oh my god it fits so well.

While a fun little observation, I should point out the point is contrasting the zany kids atmosphere with the fact it's become a horrible den of slavery and murder.

It's why Paradise Falls being in a Big Boy diner is disturbing.

Wish I could take part in the slaving. It's just radiant quests :/

"We hear our fan's feedback, we know they want to play as a raider" yeah a raider that does errands for other gangs.

Credit to the Raiders, they will accompany you on Radiant quests and actually fight with you.

Who knew the Minutemen were yellow by comparison to your average chemhead psycho.

So you got 5 or 6 of the errand giver's guys helping you on the errand to kill 1 guy or a small group of raiders? Makes you question why they need you in the first place. I get that you're meant to prove yourself to the raiders but why do they have an Overboss? Pretty sure the last one did fuck all and Gage just told them to be patient. The gangs have to know they're too different to team up and if one of them initiates full on warfare it will be against the other two. There's a fragile peace with or without the Overboss.

I have the opinion Colter was the only Raider other than Gage who wasn't an idiot. Colter has the knowledge they have a very sweet deal in Nuka World and a more or less indestructible defensible position with lots of slaves as well as scrap and salvage. Nuka World, by contrast, has a bunch of zones which might wipe out his gangs to clean out so why bother?

To Bethesda's credit, you can even point this out in-game. "Why do we need to invade the Commonwealth? We have everything we could possibly need here."

"You sound like Colter."

"Why bother" - then he's an idiot if he thinks the gangs will stay funky dunky with him decorating his home for shits and giggles. Plus the amount of cool shit he could've decorated his home with. And my biggest flaw with Colter's character is him giving away the bottom of Fizztop to the masked raiders. Like why? Think of all the cool shit you could put down there. Me, I'd modify a brew bot and create a Nuka Quantum pool. Throw in a roller coaster and a bunch of western butler bots. Then I'd tame a gatorclaw because why not I guess? Nab a cheeky throne from Kiddie Kingdom, tear apart the Galactic Zone to create my awesome house and I'm done.

A post apoc theme park is my 6yo self's dream. And Bethesda fucked it up. Their rule of cool couldn't even create something cool!

How would you do Raider quests then?
Quests work the same regardless of faction.
Fetch
Discover
Escort
Follow
Explore
Memory
Escape
Kill
Etc.
The same formula used for non-raider quests work with raider quests, but you want a mixture of as many types as possible so they don't feel all the same.
Or are you asking what a good raider quest would look like content wise?

How would you do Raider quests then?

Personally, I wouldnt have made the player the oveboss from the outset, hell, maybe I wouldn't have made them the overboss at all. The incongruity of being sent on errands by your underlings is far too jarring and makes no sense.

By actually exploring what it really means to be a raider. Seen Mad Max 2? Ever wondered what the story was behind people like Homungus and his followers? I am pretty sure you could make a great narrative out of that.

I think it's kind of annoying Gage's story requires you to get max affinity and has no quest behind it because it's a very sympathetic and understandable set of reasons to be a Raider. I also liked the depiction of the Raiders of Libertalia and their motivations.

I didn't think the dialogue was too bad.

"We need some help."

"How much am I getting paid?"

"A lot."
