Why do so many people love Skyrim but hate Fallout 4?

No, I meant Oblivion and sadly made a typo.
Yeah, gonna completely disagree. The Dark Brotherhood questline of Oblivion is better written than all of the quests of Skyrim combined. It's not perfect, but it's decently paced and has a twist i honestly didn't see it coming. Which becomes even better on repeated playthroughs when you actually notice the different hand writting on the dead drop orders.

Then there's quests like Paranoia and the base game Sheogorath draedic quest. Most of Skyrim's quest are really uninspired and boring. To the point they ripped the plot of The Hangover for a Daedric quest, the Sanguine quest. Then look at the Sanguine quest in Oblivion, it involves you throwing a spell at a party, causing everything to go apeshit. Fitting for a Daedric Prince and hilarious to boot because how the radiant AI goes crazy.

Probably because even among the whacky nonsense of Fallout 2 they remind you that it's human lives and the establishment of civilization you're ruining for your pettyness, and shiiiet. And the better way to do it is sway them and show them that outsiders can be as trustworthy as themselves, even if that's not a specific game objective.

It's another fault with Fallout 4.

Because the "Good" ending is blowing up the Institute and letting people evacuate to become homeless refugees.

While the "Bad" ending is siding with the Institute where you have the opportunity to possibly change things.

Say what you will about Skyrim but at least "Saving the World from Evil Dragon King" is at least a unambiguous thing.

How was he going to literally eat Nirn, anyway? He's pretty small. Could it be...

More seriously the Nidhogg should be out there somewhere. Let's save it for TES6.

TES6 will probably bridge the gab to Fallout and explain it that it's just the past of Fallout.

And yes, Skyrim's lore is the same as Morrowind's but it's still awesome lore.
The problem is not that it's the same as Morrowind, my problem was that most of the new lore was generic and uninspired and some of Morrowind's lore was retcon.
I also disagree it's Bland and Generic FantasyTM since that was Obsidian while Skyrim went with Vikings instead of the High Middle Ages.
Viking fantasy is also just as generic as High Middle Ages dude. Viking fantasy is also used as much as medieval fantasy. I can admit that Skyrim's world is way more interesting in comparison of oblivion's bland as fuck world though.

Skyrim is one of those paradoxical games where I'll spend hundreds of hours playing it, but never feeling quite satisfied. The eternal feeling of "what might've been".

Something that truly hurts Skyrim is that it is very serious from the start, unlike Fallout, and from that point onward everything has to be logical, but it never really is. In Fallout I'm willing to accept A LOT more until I say "ok, this is getting a bit silly".

IIRC based on Kirkbride's writings for the lore, Alduin is supposed to get much bigger and more powerful when it is time to end the world to the point where he becomes all-powerful and supreme. Plus Alduin's apparently done it before (Tamriel is apparently the latest facet of the world though again, this is based on Kirkbride and I am not sure if he's still canon).

Hard to imagine Skyrim's Alduin doing any of that though.

I think of the Dark Brotherhood questline and the Thieves Guild as two of the best questlines in the game.

Sadly, I feel the Companions and Mage's Guild just didn't do it for me.

I also felt the Civil War was a big fizzle.

Skyrim can eventually be turned into a decent game with enough mods.

There are not enough mods to fix Fallout 4.

Oblivion's retcons really did harm TES quite a bit.

Out of curiosity, anyone compiled the lore retcons that Skyrim did? The dragons are probably one but I can't recall the others if there were any.

Well, the biggest one and most relevant one is suddenly the Nords are worshiping the Imperial pantheon.

Companions is ok, I like Kodlak. Mage is awful, but has a good boss fighting.
The civil war it's....just there.

Brotherhood is the best one indeed, even Cicero being absolutely annoying.
