world's first input device with always online DRM

What's more likely? That they thought there's some point to mouse DRM or that the product simply suffers from shit design?

I use a years old mouse I cobbled together from a damaged E5 variable DPI mouse (the mousewheel broke), cannibalizing another to replace the mousewheel. MMB doesn't work, but otherwise it's great.

Hobomouse. :smug:

Don't underestimate the power of a good mouse. I'm thinking of unloading a lot of money in a mouse and a pad.

Serious gaming can't be accomplished on a pad that has cigaret burns on it and a mouse full of cat hair.

Yeah, seriously. I got by on shitty Trust and Logitec mouses for a while but a Razer mouse, even the simplest model, it just works so much better. Key for gaming, sure, but also nice for general usability. Good ergonomic design, just lies well in the palm of my hand.

Tagz, why would you ever cobble a hobomouse together? It's not like a mouse is a very expensive.

Then clean your mouse and buy an ashtray. Slob.

I've used this Logitec mouse for ages now:

It's perfectly ergonomic and perfectly accurate. And it doesn't have stupid blue lights and superfluous buttons on it like this one:

Not to mention it doesn't have a stupid name like "imperator" or "deathadder" and doesn't cost three times as much. I mean FFS.

The advantage is that your settings are no longer limited to the storage found in the mouse, so you can keep everything running a certain way and your settings are kept standardized across multiple pieces of hardware that are synced automatically.

So...officially it's done for the people that has multiple computers but switches the same mouse back and forth or want to bring their mouse wherever they go?

Maybe it's catering to those pro-gamer dorks who participate in starcraft tournaments or something

I'm thinking about getting a Logitech G500 or G700, but I can't decide if I should go wireless or not. It'd be a little annoying to charge it every few days, since I use my PC a lot. But my current mouse's cable is starting to annoy me too...

People get what they deserve when they support these stupid companies. Let's see what they say when their (Razer) profits take a hit. False or not, this is the future, and the future is now..

We are gonna have to stock up on old hardware for when the dark times come.

All of those are a waste of money. I have a basic $2 mouse that's served me for, what, over 2 years now?

Same here. Served me for quite some time already. What is the upside of such an expensive mouse?

Same. My simple mouse is sufficient. The upside is adjustable weight, macros, and cool factor.

Because the 20$ I'd spend on it can be used for more important pursuits, like beer and going out with my wife.

Seriously though, the E5 I bought was ergonomic, precise and worked awesomely. When the mousewheel broke, after about a month or two of working (my fault, I recall), I decided to fix it with the one it replaced, creating hobomouse. I've used it so much, in fact, that the wear tore down the protective layer on the buttons. I used band-aids to cover the patch and reduce finger slippage.

Short of the MMB not functioning, it's pretty damn awesome.

Depends on what you need it for. Adjustable dpi (dots per inch) is the beginning, twitch precision is impossible without it, games with more actions like wow and sc demand more buttons, adjustble weight is mostly used in combination with a large and preferably metal mouse pad and some swear on that pinky rest.

I play tribes ascend. It's a skill based shooter because it's fast as hell. I love sniping and im pretty good at it but the difference between me and some of the words best snipers is the hardware.

I would never buy a $2 mouse. I need something with good design, which makes my hand not go crazy in pain after a while. Also I like my additional buttons on the side, which are not only useful in games, but also when browsing the web (page back / forward) or doing other stuff.

Spending ~40€ for a mouse is something I would do any time. Especially considering I will most likely use it for many years (my current logitech mouse is around 3 years old already).

WoW actually the macro buttons on the side help with the godawful amount of abilities you get. One of me mates uses a Razer mouse, keyboard and headset.

Are good mice though, mainly because the R.A.T looks like a part of a T800 terminator.

I use a very big and old acme mouse, that serves me better than all those fancy bullshit mice i had in the past. I can play shooters with it, i can work with music software with it and i can browse the web with it just fine. The more complicated the mouse, the faster it breaks.

With razor you def. get what you pay for. I think they would move more units if they dropped their prices a little bit but.... a good or clearly better product has the right to be more expensive. Plus, which other company exclusively makes these hardcore PC gaming peripherals?
Obviously you need to be serious about your gaming to get the full benefit. There are games I wouldn't mind having 11 buttons on my mouse for. Or the superior movement tracking for sniping in online FPS.

It's not about the number of buttons on the mouse. It's about the DRM. WHY should a mouse have DRM??? It's bad enough that games are plagued by it already.

I already find it funny (and by "funny" I actually mean "pisses me off beyond description, but I try to laugh about it, because it really is absurd, and I want to do whatever I can to preserve my own sanity") that DRM's fall into the same easy-to-instantaneously-refute category as Illegal drugs. There IS a precedent showcasing how bad of an idea it is, already.
e.g. "Simply criminalizing a controlled substance will be easy to maintain, and cause no negative repercussions in the long-term." 1920s Prohibition; refuted.
Likewise "There's no evidence nor clear, practical examples that DRM is a self-defeating measure that harms more than it helps." Error 37; refuted.

It's just a bad idea, at its core. But people seem to forget that, because they're confusing it as part of the same advancement in technology. Mouses can continue to evolve as better and more sophisticated gaming hardware WITHOUT DRMs attached to them.

Ignorance is bliss. It's like saying you are fine with a $2 pair of headphones and those Sennheiser HD800s are a waste of money. Whether or not you care is up to you of course.

Some people like myself would like to buy those expensive ass mouses/headphones/etc, but are so poor that it's not even an option, so they use what they have and make the best of it. I see people spending $60 on a mouse and it makes me want to cry. Literally.

I actually value my quite expensive headphones very high. Why? Because I have fields of work I need high fidelity of the headphones for, unlike my mouse, that I just use for web browsing or some games that don't require me to have that extra precision. That's why I asked for more uses of such an expensive mouse.
