well, you heard my comments on yog-s :)

btw, 30-06 is pretty much a dead calibre atm. it's ballistics and damage are equal to a modern day .308 Win (aka 7.62 NATO) but the 30-06 cartridge is longer & heavier to lug around. hence, those are pretty much phasing out. (that's why i didn't mention the calibre like you did in the char sheet. it's a lot more likely for Luke to have a .308 Win than a 30-06, the days where that calibre was useful are long over. the damage is identical.)

OCC @ Welsh:
- he already took his shotgun out in a previous post (it's now slung on his back), the sniper rifle is still in a gun carrying bag in the metal storage compartment on the back of his pickup.
OCC- Which would make it pretty tricky to shoot from this distance.
what do you mean? Luke hasn't made a shot or hasn't attempted to make one yet. i dont see what you're refering to.

he'll take it out once he's on the roof.

it aint exactly rocketscience to ready a sniperrifle: insert a clip, chamber the round, flip up the scopeflaps, check range setting of the scope, remove safety & you're good to go. :)

Aurg! Zombie Horst v2.0? Thought Horst's brains were... effectively destroyed. Oh-well... Keep things interesting. Does... flip get to go H2H on a zombie? (notes Headbut, Kick, Punch & Grapple) Run? or Roll find hidden spot for something to hit zombie horst with? Or... Is this like- a trippy coincidential convulsion?

Humans have worn a variety of body armors, from boiled leather to bullet stopping vests.

Are armors aquireable? What about improvised armor?[/i]

atm i think you'll have to do with your black leather vest that Flip got, me thinks. it should give some protection.

only the cops got bulletproof vests.

@Suaside- As for the shotgun, yes you can fire slugs but the range is crap. I'm just pointing that out. Agreed, you'd be better off with the rifle.

Did I mention in an earlier thread that the runners are about 8 minutes away?

About Armor-
Here its good to refer to the Zombie survival guide. While it might be tempting to wear a suit of armor- the problem with armor is that you become canned tuna to a mob of hungry zombies- more likely to get curshed and eaten slowly because they use their strength as a can opener.

A shark suit might be more useful, but your best method of escape is usually to flee (unless they are runners, in which case they will probably outrun you).

You could also cover yourself with oil or grease so they have trouble biting or grabbing you. But that would cause problems if you keep slipping as you try to flee.

So jeans, a leather jacket, some kind of head gear, might be best.

seem to recall so yes. but i still need to get on the blasted roof! charlie should know if there is a way up though & if there isn't he'll have to boost me from the back of the pickup.

Alright; Good deal. What about mundane objects, like phone books, and duct tape? These can add SOME protection against the undead. You're absolutely right about a suit of plate armor.

The phone book thing - This is a common tactic commonly used by gang-bangers, and the more violent of bar-flys; for protection from knives, or shivs; Its very effective chest protection in this case.

Thick leather is a good idea; offering descent protection from stabbing attacks; and even some ballistic attacks; though not so much for blunt attacks.

Do these modify AC effects per successful attack?

Perhaps. The problem might be that they affectg your Dex. Also, as much as a leather jacket might help improve armor class, it wouldn't do much against, say, the jaws of a Pit Bull. Zombies bite really hard.

Suggestion to characters and group -

Survival requires aptitude to prioritize and organize.

Damn, I am like a kid with a wicked surprise to spring......

Hey guys. I don't know how often I will be posting. I only have a few minutes to punch this out, as it is. Sorry for holding up the story, but I will be busy for the next 1 to 5 days (not sure) Also - Are Decesed characters NCP, or PC's?

i'm guessing they're NPCs. zombies don't make good PCs me thinkz.

Welsh, can you describe to me the way up to the dinner roof btw? is it a 'dropdown' ladder & a hatch? prehaps concrete stairs & a door (although unlikely since you cant see it on the pics you gave us)?

ZOmbies = NPCs. They really don't do much but go after the nearest meal, eat till full, or the meal has itself gone zombie, then move to the next closest bite.

As for the ladder way- yes its a "drop down ladder" and a hatch. You pull a cord from the ceiling to pull down the trapdoor that reveals a folded ladder/stair, then you go up. (Note that this makes for a very defensible position). There is limited crawl space and storage up there, and then you can pop open a hatchway onto the roof.

The ladder is not in the main room of the diner nor even in the kitchen. Rather, its in a hallway near the main office close to the back entrance and near the liquor closet.

How are the on and off ramps from I-80 arranged? Is the highway actually at a higher elevation with the ramps descending to the truck stop? If so, one idea I had is to block them with large vehicles (such as the news van) and set them on fire. This wouldn't stop the zombies for good, since they can come from other directions or just fall over the guard rail, but it would slow them down and cause them some damage, and allow the snipers more time to take them out.

If, on the other hand, I-80 is on the same level as the truck stop, this idea wouldn't work as the zombies would simply go around the flaming barriers by going over the guard rail (if there even is one).

I return; Tired as hell; and concussed... and my face hurts. So do my legs for that matter; So - I don't think I'll have much els going on behind schooling, until this weekend. I'm free until friday; Dove season opens on the 1st, so - I'mma go kill stuff. beautiful Remmington 870 Wingmaster Express waiting in a closet.

So - Earl bit the dust? Shame. I was hoping to roll combat.

Welsh- just out of curiosity, are you foregoing the Past Life memory for zed's? I notice that you are taking the running/sprinting characteristic from 28days later, and the newer Dawn of the Dead.

Welcome back and have fun hunting.

So - Earl bit the dust? Shame. I was hoping to roll combat.

I was getting bored with Earl. It is possible that he might have been very helpful in getting the trucks and helicopter repaired but mostly he had been moving around and bitching about problems. Time to take him out.

Actually its a bit of a mix. Most zombies are walkers, a few are twitchers- with little mental ability and lacking the ability to walk, but a small portion, about 10% have the coordination to run. Thus about 20 zombies (1/10 of the zombies on the highway) are chasing the van towards the T-Bone. The rest are walking.

That said, using the Zombie Survival Guide, zombies don't really feel fear, injury or worry about fatigue. So once they are after you, they don't stop coming. Also imagine how fast you'd run if your muscles didn't ache or you didn't have that burning feeling in your lungs.

Past Life memory for zed's?

Welcome back, Stompie. Don't worry, we're going to have more combat than we can handle soon enough. Earl will likely become a zombie (though we're ready for that now), and Flip is still in the freezer with Horst, plus we've got about twenty more running towards the truck stop. Once Sean arrives at the garage he'll let the others know, and since he and Wallace have rifles and are good shots with them I plan for them to rush back to the diner and get up on the roof.

Past Life memory is something mentioned in the original Dawn of the Dead, where zombies would act (often repetitvely) in a manner in which they did in life and go to locations that would be familiar to them. It looks like Earl had a hand in the death of the one that killed him (though Bo wasn't there to hear Earl's last words and nobody who was has told him yet). Perhaps the zombie went after Earl first as some form of revenge, but we don't yet know - he may have just been the most convenient snack.

I'll be sure to post a few pics of my Quarry, on personal stuff; XD

Just out of curiosity, didn't Horst get his gray matter splattered? or- am I just in-attentive.

Past life memory. Like, a sliding glass door can prove quite an obstical for a zombie; Until they smash the bastard. This may take a while, if its dual Faine glass; (especially that insolated argon stuff; Pretty tuff stuff.) Giving the zombies quarry (if it were chasing someone down) valuable seconds.

What I'm getting at, is - the memories, of say- the workings of a sliding glass door. Or.. how to open a wooden door, for that matter. (Just asking.. Bechause, this may curtail any nasty surprises that may come about, if the question is not asked)
