Alpha Protocol

NO DON'T FUCKING SUMMON ROSHA- Oh damnit.

You know what, I'll play the game and I will see how good it is. And to be honest, a lot of these review points could apply to Fallout 3 (especially bad writing, shitty shoiting mechanics, and PS2 graphics) and yet it got 9's and 10's from everywhere.

it's getting a lot of bad reception from people on the internet though. Guess I'll have to play it to see what's so wrong with it.
Or just believe what they write and save 50 bucks?

hello.

i'd like to point out that mass effect 2 is almost completely linear,
has an even more simplistic skill system AND combat system than this game,
yet it got a 10/10.

and the mini games aren't impossible, you just didn't develop those skills at all. learn how to play rpgs.

this review shouldn't be taken seriously by people who do not want rpgs to be action games with a few dialogues crammed in.

One comment from the bit-tech review. At the other review about the bugs: I find it strange, that they don't name bugs, except bad ai, which is called glitch and not bug.

I am still waiting for my AP to get to me today. Then I will see by myself and write about it.

But it was by Bethesda the rpg masters! And you can run around in a big and lifeless gameworld!

Keep in mind that the same guy gave Fallout 3 9/10.

You know, this forum has changed the way i see game reviews. Now whenever i see a good review i wonder how much the developer/Publisher sucked them off (Or Vise versa).

- extreme linearity
I thought the main point of Alpha Protocol is that "your weapon is your choice" and that's the game's own damn slogan. If it is "extremely linear" I shall be quite disappointed.

- PS2-quality graphics
They don't look that bad, it isn't Rogue Warrior quality graphics, at least.

In other news, I have acquired a copy of this game (for the Xbox 360, mind you) from my local Gamestation. My thoughts shall be clear on this soon.

Now I expect F3 fanboys to praise the epic OXM quote(the one that was in the front page), and demand to give New Vegas development to Bethesda.

They might have lost their faith after seeing Alpha Protocol. :P Is it really that bad? I'm waiting that some NMA'er gives us a honest review.

I really doubt that it's that bad. Check out the reviewers who wrote the negative reviews, it explains some things here and there.

Also the harsh cut between very bad and very good reviews is interesting to me. Can't wait to play it by myself, but that damn postal carrier didn't got my copy today...

watching some videos now and I gotta say, it looks really interesting. the graphics aren't top-notch, but I think it looks good and really don't get why people whine so much about it. combat and AI does look pretty clumsy though, and that can really make or break a game. story and character-wise it seems pretty cheesy, but in a good way.

can't wait to try it out. it reminds me too much of Deus Ex to not give it chance.

I have heard that while the levels themselves are linear in terms of combat, the story is non-linear with many endings and a variety of choices that interact with each other to give a varierty of consequences...

So, while the other parts of the game may have technical problems, the story and choices and consequences are very RPG...

Heh, I guess Obsidian is making a Troika game now...

German GamersGlobal review is pretty good. (8/10)

Positive stuff: They write many positive points, about the action in the game, the choices and the consequence, the way you can spend points on your characters skills, the story, the locations, enemy-types are reacting different. Also they say that some locations are looking very good (Rome as example). They say that the english voice over is very good and and and...

Negative stuff: They write that the savepoint system isn't always good, menu controls are unneeded complex, difficult setting on easy is too easy and on hard, boss battles are frustrating. Also they adress the lack of different looking enemies and that there are only a few physic effects in the game (destroyable enviroment, etc). Ragdoll-system is sometimes a bit over the top as well. Of course, they also name the bad ai and the "big alarm"-behave of the ai.

They don't write anything about "shitload of bugs", etc. and I really doubt that they forgot about them. And they write in their résumé, that Alpha Protocol isn't a game for the masses and that the rating could have been better, if the game wouldn't have some design flaws.

Seems pretty fun to me. Yeah, the animations and graphics may not be as good as many other games but it still seems fun...

If the combat is similar to this vid and the RPG aspects are good, I think I will enjoy this game very much...

Hurr durr. I just checked my postbox again, only for lulz, and what do I find? Looks like the postal dude came back after he read my raging messages.

Indeed, that would have been not cool.

Anyway, installing now and it takes time. Will sum up my first hour of playing later.
