There seems to be an inherent contradiction to Identity Politics though. It's all well and good when it's wielded to scapegoat straight, white, christian men. The trouble is, that boogeyman can't be everywhere and do all the oppressing. It starts to fall apart when the oppressor is one of the designated oppressed minorities. So when muslims oppress homosexuals for example. Or white chicks transgress against blacks. Or blacks against transgenders. Or whatever, the more granular you make the Identities, the more permutations of protected group vs. protected group spring up.
Then what?
Which group takes precedent? There's got to be some minority hierarchy scorecard, right? WASPs on the bottom and Elderly Gender Fluid Vegan Cherokee Necrophiliacs on top? Tell me who to heap my righteous opprobrium on please Huffingtonpost!
And then to fuck up all notions of privilege and oppression, you got these damn Asians showing up and ruining the curve for all the other minorities. They're quietly surpassing whites in most metrics of success. In many cases the bar is raised higher for college admissions for Asians because they excel too much. They're too smart, we don't want too many people like that representing our school!
The inherent hypocrisy of identity politics is stupefying.
