Some of my earliest gore-scare experiences were Predator, Akira as mentioned in another thread, Total Recall (head explodes YAY!) and sure, these were shocking scenes, and my young and feeble mind needed a long time to fully process it, in particular Predator really threw me back with its violence. My mother probably wouldn't have let me watch it, but she's of the type who knew I'd come across such stuff sooner or later anyway. It's a part of growing up.
We also found porn, rain-soaked magazines hidden away in "caches" in the local woods, stuff like that. VHS era also meant many a dad hid away (poorly) German porns, with full bush and plumber storylines
And we played on the rails Really though, most kids will have the basic cognitive skill to move out of the way when the train approaches, but thinking back, we probably gave many a conductor a bit of a sweat
