Bethesda to buy another IP?

yeah, it's not very realistic being able to swing a huge sword and hit several enemies in front of you.

"Hit" is one thing, "do any kind of substantial damage" is another, smartass.

Most of the blow's energy would 'stop' at the first target it encounters, no?

It'd have to cut clean through the first hit to deal any kind of damage to the next.
Indeed but it's rarely animated that way. If the animation appears to be able to hit multiple enemies then the mechanics damn well better follow and vice versa. Besides which, not all games should be realistic and not all games shouldn't be, there should be a mix.

We-ell, one could argue that one of M&B's premises is to be strongly realistic towards medieval combat in a game environment.

That said, M&B does have a lot of buggy animation clipping, and I'm not a big fan of the whole 'enemies appearing out of thin air' thing.

The Oblivion-style thing.

Sometimes it was funny, when I was just simply passing the road and then suddenly I heard a guy shouting "I'll kill you!!" coming out from the bushes.

i think there is a mod where you can get a biiig fantasy sword and kill multiple ennemies. not my favorite thought.
Man there even is a alpha of a fallout mod. Not the best engine for a fallout mod, since they will need a looot of quests and dialogues to transform it in a rpg but whatever.
Last time i checked, they even had a power armor design.

But the best mod for M&B is the one from Njis, Battle for Sicily...

I haven't played it so I can't say, it was someone else's example. I was simply stating that as a general rule. My original comment was meant to be discussing the lack of peripheral vision's effect on combat rather than hitting multiple foes with an attack. Due to the lack of peripheral vision of FPP, you can't see the blade and foes on the outer edge of your swing while in TPP, you can.

I would like to see enemies in games that activelly use stealth to fight you. Its kinda ridiculous to walk around and then some guy jumps from out of the bushes with a club shouting "I'll KILL YOU!!". Its like shouting "SNEAK ATTACK!" during a battle. Imagine how some enemies would be deadly if, instead of causing ruckus, they would simply use their stealth to get near, shoot a bullet/arrow at you, then retreat and go stealth again. Repeat ad nauseum and you have a very hard enemy, if done right.

Agreed, though to be fair, MB's TPP perspective is much more restricted than say, The Witcher's, more suited to simultaneous combat with several enemies.

Yeah, in the city they come out from the bushes too shouting "I'LL KILL YA!!" :P

But in the real life you can try to at least speak to his mind "Whoo, wait a sec man! Let's talk about this.", in Oblivion or FO3 there is only one way- kill him.

M&B's basic settings don't allow for realistic combat, tho'. You have to turn the difficulty way, way up to get a realistic idea of combat, but then you'll constantly be dying (which is why the default settings aren't like that).

Also, the appearing out of thin air thing is just related to technical limitations. If you have a high-end computer, there's a mod that allows you to deploy complete armies (I think up to 9999 NPCs) in one go. But most computers can't handle that.

In M&B, if you are charging full speed on a horse, and whack a baddie with a sword, I would think that the sword would cut him in two or something and retain some of its force.

It makes sense with a spear type weapon too. If I insta-kill someone charging full speed, it should go through and potentially hit someone behind him.

GURPS had a good way and simple way of doing this. Weapon damage is based on the mount (i.e. horse) strength not yours. Horse much stronger than human = splatto.

AHAHahahahaha.
Seems that current bethesda's creative people ran away, and henceforth ,they MUST now buy other peoples ideas. Great.
I feel sorry for the CURRENT fans of any IP that is going to be bought, and would like to express them my early sympathy.

Why, are you jealous that it's THEM who get the awesome new sandbox game with amazing graphics, breathtaking action, epic adventure, full-scale immersion, and, most importantly, ASPLODING HEADS?

I personally want to see Bethesda buy the Mario license! "You're in the mushroom kingdom, ambushed by vicious critters, and the violence is fucking hilarious..."
