Bethesda to buy another IP?

AHAHahahahaha.
Seems that current bethesda's creative people ran away, and henceforth ,they MUST now buy other peoples ideas. Great.
I feel sorry for the CURRENT fans of any IP that is going to be bought, and would like to express them my early sympathy.

You know how easy it is to come up with creative ideas?

Easy enough that it wouldn't cost them any money.

No, whatever they're buying, It's for the name recognition.

I am now halfway through planescape: torment for the first time, having started it 3 days ago just to savor it in case Bethesda ruins it for everybody.

The thing is not to come up with ideas but how to make them happen. I would say its no issue for the average Joe to come up with a awesome never seen before inovative idea if you give him enough time. But to make that idea reality is a totally another story.

Now Bethesda has not the skill to let certain things work (sadly), they get hit by a lot of "nice" ideas, but they cant implement them in a meaningfull way. I would not say those people at Bethesda are inherently uncreative. Just their lead workers are sloppy designers and programmers.

Planescape, along with all the other old TSR settings, were bought out by Wizards of the Coast over a decade ago. The Planescape setting was folded into the (rather thin) 3.5 D&D book "Guide to the Planes," and in 4th edition, is gone entirely (so far.)

There is no more Planescape, and even if there were, WoTC probably wouldn't let it go without a massive amount of cash and IP rights. I think it's safe to bet that it won't be Planescape.

I don't think anyone's suggested it yet but it could be Wing Commander seeing as Todd seems to mention it quite frequently when talking about old games and he did it again in the most recent article.

I am not sure, how long has it been since EA released Arena?

Plus I hope not, yet something else that will be ruined by Bethesda.

July 2007, though it's a spin-off and not a sequel. I agree, they have never done a flight game and I really can't seem them doing one well given their design philosophy.

Plus they would butcher the universe, rehashing previous games' storylines as that seems what they do best.

As for the gameplay, well I already was severally disappointed with Arena and how a lot of Wing Commander fans embraced it, being under the impression that supporting Area would result in EA making a Wing Commander sequel like the old games.

If anything Bethesda Wing Commander would be Arena 2.

Why, are you jealous that it's THEM who get the awesome new sandbox game with amazing graphics, breathtaking action, epic adventure, full-scale immersion, and, most importantly, ASPLODING HEADS?

I personally want to see Bethesda buy the Mario license! "You're in the mushroom kingdom, ambushed by vicious critters, and the violence is fucking hilarious..."

I'd buy it. Luigi exploding Mario's head would be awesome.

Wing Commander? How do they want to squeze that in the gameplay of Oblivion ?

They cut out the vehicles and you just run aro... you just explore one planet.

or the whole universe in a sand-box like way with invisible walls. Of course everything in first person. And considering the nature of a big universe no one will run in to this walls anyway ... with several light years between them ... Bethesdasong: "First Person, First Person uber alles in der Welt ..."
