Bethesda's Fan Interview #2

Xenophile, like Per said, those are not the suit itslef, they are the tools that you use. Im not better in first aid because Im wearing scrubs. its just dumb.
Of course, If I have the first aid kit and stuff, that would make sense, but then, we would be talking about the kit, not about the clothing im wearing.

Camoflage is an outfit.

A nice suit (negotiations) is an outfit.

Welders mask is a head gear.

Jewelers mask is a head gear.

Now you factor that outfits are one piece.. So toolbelts.. and the like are part of the outfits.. then there you get your boosts..

Pretty simple if you ask me.. and yes closing with an insult.. I figure, when in rome...

we haven't actually seen the examples, but it is a game and I think it is well within the realm of possibility.

The Doctor's Bag, Lockpicks and Super Tool Kit served the same purpose on the originals without being retarded. Switching their function entirely to clothing makes little sense outside of a fantasy setting, and even though some of the examples you and other people made up sound pretty good (camouflage, goggles, shades like the ones in FO2), they are pretty different from what Bethesda has given us.

But don't let me piss on your pity party.. just saying it's not the fantasy fallout travesty you make it out to be.

The way some things are being implemented in Fallout 3 is very reminiscent of fantasy, and reeks of shoehorning them into the setting. Ability-improving clothes are just the latest of them; we already have radiation magic for the Glowing Ones, flaming swords for the PC, robot horses. So, in the spirit of this so-called pity party, have a little gift from me:

I know, he doesn't have a leg to stand on, but then again, neither does Bethesda's Fallout 3. Plus, you can't tell from the pic, but that's a +15% Melee Combat Shoulderpad he's wearing.

LOL  that's the best most uber awesomely epic pic ever! Yet it's also the most depressing ever because it's a real portrait of fallout 3

LOL. + 20!

Good job!

That no shotgun. Thats a god damn, slightly modified, Russian World War 2 submachinegun, commonly called the PPSH.
Just look at these pictures and compare:

http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/album_page.php?pic_id=2904

All they have done is moved the drum feed forward along the barrel, and attached a modern grenade launcher under the main barrel.

So now we got Chinese Assault rifles and old WW2 Soviet SMGs(that now apparantly are shotguns)?
i concur. i immediately thought of the PPSh-41 myself.

though it also could be inspired on the PPD-40, but i think that one is a tad too obscure to influence Beth (since they don't seem like they want to do a lot of homework).

and as you can see the ejected shell, it is indeed supposed to be a shotgun. but seriously... a Citykiller against this piece of slag? come on...

So where the hell did all the american weapons manufacturers go?
Glock etc was also in FO1 btw.

but yeah, i get what you're saying.

Yeah, I agree. Bring the Citykiller back. I have fond memories of that gun, the one time when I invaded the Military Base in FO1: All by myself, wearing Hardened Power Armor and touting a Citykiller in my hands. Between victory and me, there was a horde of battle-ready Super Mutants armed with the most heavy weapons ever know to man. The Grim Reaper took many souls in that fateful day.

They took out traits, but the perks count as a replacement to traits?
Eh, I don't know about that. Still... the screen shots showed that the system looked alright. That's still a real bummer that you can't kill children, or be a slaver. Also, I wondered if they were going to have it so you could play through the game like the "Dumb One" path in the previous games.

(You know, going through the entire game with 4 or lower intelligence)

All in all, it's shaping out to be...fine. I don't think it will be as good as the originals. I know it's going to be better then that retarded Brotherhood game on the original xbox. Then I think I have to give a little nod to the guys making it because when I reserved my copy they gave me a little sound track disk that had songs from the game, and some from the original fallout soundtrack.

Thanks for the kind words, guys. You do a shameless copy-paster too much honor.

Now, am I the only one under the impression that Todd may have purposefully delayed this interview as some kind of preemptive damage control? I mean, a lot of that info has been released just recently, and his answers did cause something of an uproar even on their own forum despite its, er, enthusiastic moderation.

I haven't been able to locate the source, but I believe I recall BS saying that there would not be a "stupid game." Seeing as dialogue and speech are not based on intelligence, I wouldn't count on having any special dialogue choices for characters with int<4.

Yea, looking closer at the pictures, It does seem that they have fitted a much larger barrel in the FO3 picture. You can see the huge barrel pressing against the sides of the metal cooling case, while on the other picture, the barrel has plenty of breathing room, so to speak.

But the one must wonder, why the hell retool an anciet WW2 smg into one of the most common firearms you are likely to find in the smoldering ruins of Walmarts everywhere, the shotgun? Thats alot of retarded effort for nothing really. But the again, thats the vibe Im gettin from FO3 anyways.

No. There are no low-intelligence dialogues. Even 1 INT characters are perfectly articulate.

No dumb dialog, true, Emil confirmed it quite some time ago.

I just read on the official forum that quest directions will appear on the compass (oblivion style quests), and it will not be possible to turn that off

is that already officialy confirmed?

The only way to turn the compass off is to turn the entire hud off, according to the interview.

well technically, it's Oblivion with Ridiculously Stupid Guns that they ripped off like most of their work.

The shotgun reeeaaaally bothers me tho.

How hard would it be to make a side by side double barrel shotgun? (sawed off or not)

Those have been around for more than a friggin century and instead we get that submachinestreetsweeper.

I'm wouldn't have been all that surprised if they'd just ripped off a real combat shotgun for the design, like the AA-12, but modelling a shotgun after a completely differnt type of weapon and then doing so poorly so it doesn't even look practicle really takes the cake.

I'm sure I said it before when we got the first mag scans of the "laser rifle", but whoever is modelling these guns has obviously never used or even held a real firearm.
