But you say here that the water is so irradiated you'd need a LARGE water purification system to purify semi large amounts of water.
If the water is that irradiated they'd need a large purification system to be able to make enough water to trade AND purify it for their own use as well as stock piling it. You aren't going to get caravans coming all the way to your city for small amounts of water. The danger + resources would need to match the amount of potential profit. That amount of water is like the amount you'd need to grow stuff or to sustain a town for more than a week or two. Megaton doesn't have that kind of facilities. For that matter, why doesn't Megaton sustain themselves better by simply growing their own crops if they have the ability to pull water out and purify enough to make it worth caravans traveling to them?

That isn't grass though, and a lot of it is pretty dead looking. Those are more than likely something like creosote or mesquite or one of the other types of desert shrubs. Odd they'd be in the capital wasteland but they look almost exactly like them.

Mesquite beans can be fed to cows in times of harsh lack of food but in terms of grazing they actually injure cows and they aren't meant to sustain them for long periods.

Funny that they'd put these types of desert plants so far from where they naturally occur, the south west.

They probably migrated together with Jet and the BoS into DC, so that they aren't feeling to lonely.

    http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2013/02/12/and-heres-obsidians-idea-for-fallout-new-vegas-2/
“If I think of going from Fallout 1 to Fallout 2, we tried to associate the two areas somewhat closely,” he explained to RPS. “It wasn’t just ‘Oh, we’re gonna do this 2,000 miles from here.’ So I think if we were to do Fallout: New Vegas 2 – or just a new Fallout – we would probably separate it from what the internal team at Bethesda’s doing. We’d keep it on the West Coast, because we’re West Coast people. They’re East Coast, so it makes sense.”

“And we need an interesting confined area. So I mean, it could be LA. Fallout LA. That could be interesting. It’d probably be The Boneyard, which is from Fallout 1. It could be very different. It could be almost a Walking Dead meets Fallout-like thing because of all the radiation.

Not seeing it really, those are far taller then the grass of D.C., I mean, even you get really close to it its obviously grass. and its likely just irradiated/mutant grass, which is why it looks dead compared to "normal" grass, though I have to say that grass in Texas looks like that most of the time, and its certainly not dead.

And they do have a large water purification machine in Megaton... so whats your point?

Because clean water is in such short supply in D.C. that not having enough to farm is still worth a lot.

Just speculation from my side of course, but why assume that he's talking necessarily only about turning it in to a zombie-killing-fest. After all, a huge appeal from the Walking dead is to see the characters strugle with the situation and how they change over time. Maybe he was meaning this more in the context of the way how comunities and people are dealing with the situation of a dangerous wasteland and colapse of civilisation. No doubt Ferals would be a normal occurance, but knowing Urquhard, there would be definetly a lot of characters and situation comparable to Fallout 1, and not just mindless radiation zombies everywhere.

No clue. I am just brain storming. But thinking about New Vegas and how story driven it was and about communities struggling in the Vegas area, I have my doubts they would simply turn LA in to a mindless shooter like Fallout 4.

Anyway, the difference is I trust Obsidian to make the right decisions, where I trust Bethesda to only decide in favour of marketing value - in other words, money, money money ...

Yeah, in TWD, the worst enemy of man during the zombie apocalypse is the fellow man.

Christ, despite what is heavily implied by the entry, he's flat out trying to come up with an excuse for it.

There's flexibility in deciding what elements exist in a fictional universe, but some things don't change, like living things needing sustenance to survive.

Indeed. He single-handedly threw all complaints about inconsistent lore out of the window. "Eh, we don't give a fuck."

"sorry, i don't have an answer for that. i'll pass it along. i didn't write it, i don't know the context"

This is a much better response.

The ghouls needing water is a tough one to accept because it was big deal with the water chip in Fallout 1.

I've come to the conclusion that Bethesda, while they make fun games, and I love the open exploration, are not in the business of making FO games, or, even RPG's anymore, and suddenly these little lore breaks stop being worth worrying about. I like to think of it at Bethesdian 5, some Bethsdians are post apocalyptica, some are fantasy, but, as long as you don't ask much from the writing/believability, they ARE fun.

Yeah, but Kilus explained it in a different topic very nicely, even a fictional universe with all sorts of giggle and whacky technology/magic has to be consistent with it's own rules - there are exceptions, but Fallout is not one of those. That's why you don't see the Ecto-1 Ghostbusters car behave like the DeLorean time machine, or Gandalf in Reign of Fire fighting Dragons with magic.

I gave up on OBsidian after they decided to systematically write in as many bullshit excuses as to why everything in the west coast would be destroyed for seemingly no reason other then "we wrote ourselves into a corner with all these large factions that have become so large we can't really expand them anymore without spilling over into other area, so we are taking to easy way out and just destroying them".

Not to mention the abominations that were Meme World Blues, and Lonesome Road.

    Wut?

When did they destroy NCR and Legion? Regardless of who loses neither is going to be destroyed. They'll splinter into sub-factions and grow smaller, sure. But be destroyed? Nope.

And when exactly did breathing is like super-hot yo and penis-tipped feet become meme's?
