Bioshock Infinite

Also, I'm probably going to get e-crucified for this, but Bioshock 2 has better gameplay and a much better story than Infinite. The later game has nothing quite like the Big Daddy or Big Sister fights in Rapture.

Maybe the Handymen were supposed to be like them, who knows.

Yeah, I had the same thought. I loved the Big Daddy and Little Sister thing, and missed something like that in Infinite. Not sure what it could've been, but one interesting aspect to the Big Daddies was that they were almost always optional to fight. Even throwing in a few Handymen who you didn't have to fight would have been fun.

Ya, but the Daddies were fun to fight (mostly because you could prepare beforehand, and the fights were varied, there were like 4 variants in Bioshock 2). The Handyman are just bloody annoying, they are much faster than you so besides spamming Plas-Vigors there's not much to do vs them. And don't get me started on the Siren. Worst boss fight design in the history of the franchise.

There were only like three handymen in the game though and the only thing you can do to fight them is spam bullets into their heart.

Yeah, the Handymen were indeed disappointing fights. No tactics involved, just kite and fire.

Yeah I didn't really get what the deal was with all the lockpicks everywhere since literally almost every safe or door or whatever had a lockpick or three lying right beside it.
just like in real life isnt it

For sure, I was just thinking that maybe they were born to be the Big Daddies equivalent only to be changed later as "bosses".

I think they pretty much were the equivalent of Big Daddies, they were just a lot less interesting to fight. The Handymen weren't really that tough, they were just harder to kill because you also had three or four mooks peppering you with bullets whenever one attacked, while the Big Daddies went solo.

Big Daddies and Big sisters (Bio 2) have been an pretty awesome concept in my eyes. Particularly the Big Sisters, at least as far as the design and atmosphere goes.

Maybe I just suck at games, but I died plenty on Hard. Especially against that second handyman in Comstock's tower. Died like five times.

Same here. I like the Handymen as adversaries more than Big Daddies, since the former are surprisingly mobile and aggressive. You can't outmaneuver them, whereas with Big Daddies it was a question of sidestepping (Bouncer) or ducking (Rosie). They weren't particularly interesting as adversaries.

I haven't played BS2 but in BS1 the Big Daddies were super easy to beat.

-Get the "faster reloading" upgrade for the shotgun
-Stock on electric ammo (they stun the BDs briefly)
-Mash the shoot button
-???
-Profit!

I guess Irrational didn't realize that the time needed to load a shell in the shotgun was pretty much the same as the time they were stunned...

No such thing in BS2, albeit you could spam Winter Blast to freeze them, but it costs lots of EVE and if they die frozen then no loot for you.

I do agree Bioshock 1 was way too easy across the board. BS2 on Hard is a reasonable difficulty. Infinite is harder, but the enemies are more annoying so its less fun in the end.

Electric ammo and electric gel were pretty rare if I remember correctly.

Bioshock 2 had the best combat in the franchise though.

You can manufacture it. And unless you're a total failure of a gamer, you'll have enough gel to last you a lifetime.

Damn right!

Yes it has. The ADAM collection sequences are always nice, and Big Sister fights are damn intense. I know the game has continuity problems and could innovate more, but honestly I don't see why it seems to be hated that much.

I dunno about electric ammo but I remember electric gel always got depleted incredibly fast. The wrench (with the right combination of tonics) was the superior weapon clearly.

Does it really get much hate? I've never seen that much to be honest. The story is decent enough, the combat and gameplay are enjoyable, the level design is a lot better than Infinite's, etc.

I mean the story and characters weren't all that memorable but overall it was a pretty good game.

For me, good game, great visual design, good movie but I don't think it's that great to get that high metascore though.

From what I can remember, according to some people apparently the first Bioshock was revolutionary, or really, really good (which I have to diagree with, especially given the awful plot twist). Bioshock 2 being more of the same apparently was disappointing and so people saw it as nothing more than a cash-grab. As far as I'm aware anyway, it's been ages since I've heard anything about the 2nd game and anytime I hear something about the first, it's the usual circle-jerking.

Played Infinite when it came out, and enjoyed it a lot. Sure, it has flaws and I do think that the setting was better used in BS1 with Ryan being a more interesting protagonist than Comstock, but I feel that it works out just fine for the most part.

Its the escort missions in Bioshock 2 that killed it for me. I hated having to lead the little sisters around when they harvested.
