Dark Souls

Yes I've found out too late myself that Endurance is way more important than Resistance. Now I'm constantly struggling to keep my load under 50%. I hope I can defeat Havel soon, that ring of his seems ever more attractive now. Plus I need to double my STR to be able to wield that Black Knight Sword and I've just got cursed two times in sewers beneath Depths which made me lose over 25k souls, oh god Dark Souls why do you hate me so much??? Here, lemme play some more..

14 Str and 32 Dex at level 100? Jeez man, what else did you put points into?

One general tip for allocating your points anyway, a point in Resistance is a point wasted. All it does is increase the stats you usually increase at the same time with putting points in other areas, then I think it also ups your Bleed or basic Poison bars a little, but that's honestly a big waste when you could otherwise be investing in something that widens your selection of weapons and loadouts..

yeah, I haven't put one point in resistance. I have 30 vitality, 40 endurance and 30 faith as well. so that's where my points were spent. not sure how I could've allocated them differently to be more effective. I needed 30 faith for miracles, and 30 vitality is almost too little for pvp it seems. I guess I didn't need 40 endurance, but having stamina maxed out and being able to carry medium armor and a good shield and still being under 25% equip load is pretty damn nice.

25k is nothing ;) might feel like a huge loss, but at later levels you'll leave that much behind after dying just because you can't be bothered to go collect it. or fall off a cliff with 100k souls after killing a boss, then dying on your way back. either way, unless you will keep leveling forever, you will eventually end up having so many souls you don't even know how to spend them. so don't get disheartened because you're losing souls.

that said, I tend to spend souls whenever I can, and I don't explore new areas or attempt bosses with over 10k souls on me. they're better spent on prism stones, homeward bones or arrows.

The Painted World has a really easy way to grind souls, especially if you have WotG. There's a group of blob-like enemies close to the fire that you can kill over and over for 7k a trip. Pretty much 100k-200k souls an hour depending on your weapon; AOE damage rips these slow-moving enemies to shreds.
So... Vow of Silence takes up all your attunement slots - no matter how many you have - I'm guessing? I only have three right now, but I was hoping I could at least put an enchantment on my weapon before using the Vow :(

Havel is fairly easy if you are good at dodging and backstab. I'm not so he kept blamming me last night with his mahoosive weapon of manliness. That or you break his a.i by camping the Darkroot Basin door and cheesing him to death.

Even at low levels (You better have taken that Master Key) Havel isn't too hard, all you gotta do is pretty much take all your armor off, put n your best weapon, then dodge and backstab him enough. You can however also parry him if you're MAN enough.

Havel's ring really is incredibly good though, especially early on when you'll probably need a little bit of space to work out a good weight - power loadout.

Fucking Queelag. For some odd reason, her fight lags like shit on the xbawks and thus I always accidently roll into the lave puddles. I even upgraded my great shield so it has a lot of fire resistance, but some of her melee attacks just go through my defence. It is really not a challenging fight, but an annoying one.

But anyway, I started this game as a knight, with the intention to use the biggest and meanest armor that is there to wear, wanted to end up like that Havel fucker. But then I read that it is more easy to kill him via backstabbing and being just quick, rolling, dodging and the game is much more fun this way. :o All of the enemies I had previously problems with are so easy to kill, it is fun to have more possibilities than to just "Hold Shield/Wait/Hit".

Anyway, it is a great game, very challenging, very atmospheric, very fun fun fun.

Wack up endurance and wear Havel's ring and then you can easily flip and roll in heavier armour and block/tank to your hearts desire at the same time.
:V

Got invaded yesterday for the first time, one shotted by his fireball after he gave up trying to backstab me.

What a big ole fag, those guys were never very entertaining to fight when all they do is fish for backstabs, all they do is rely on little bits of lag to get even a little around then hurrrchainstab.

Also thankfully, nobody's gonna be doing any flipping in Heavy armor, not anymore unless they literally put every point into Endurance to somehow stay under 25% encumbrance while wearing the mountain that is Havel's armor or Giant's set. Good riddance too, that shit nearly killed all the enjoyment of PvP on consoles, it's no fun when everyone gets strong-armed into using the same stupid cookie-cutter build.

I'm on my second character now and a major difference is that now people who invade are usually all decked out in gear and spells you "normally" wouldn't have achieved at that level. true griefers, in other words. it's pretty annoying, and makes you think twice before becoming human. at lower levels on my first playthrough, getting invaded could be great fun because people seemed to be more equal in gear and skill.

on my first character I've been doing some dueling in the arena. I win half the games and lose half. unfortunately, pvp kinda gets ruined by lag. I can no longer count the times I've died because of undodgable spells and weapons with ranges twice what the graphics show. it's really annoying, because those fights become completely unpredictable and based solely on lag. at the same time, it doesn't seem like the lag goes both ways... I've had guys literally teleporting after me and backstabbing while in front of me. if they had the same kind of lag, I doubt they'd be able to do that.

anyway, playing Dark Souls completely on your own can be kinda scary. I was on Skype with a couple of friends 95% out of my first playthrough, which sort of gave you a sense of security (and help on hard bosses). this time I'm playing completely alone and for some reason I feel really lonely and scared :(

You sir just sold me this game. Thanks.

glad I could help :D

you're gonna love it, I'm sure. ah man, I wish I could play it for the first time again. half the fun is really to discover all the locations, explore every little bit and not knowing what the hell is around the next corner. unfortunately I think I missed out on a lot of that by not playing it alone the first time. I was guided through several areas by someone who knew them inside out.

Well, there's always playing it in a different style. I started a Dex/Int build and I've been kicking the shit out of poor people as a Darkwraith by wielding an Iaito with Crystal Magic Weapon and Homing Crystal Soulmass. I also got an Faith/Dex build in the works, that'll make use of the Gravelord Covenant and Occult weapons.

yeah, I'm doing a dex/int build now and my other is a dex/faith.

I wanted to do a ninja-type character this time, but I'm not sure on weapons and point distribution. and if I'm even gonna do arena or screw with people as a darkwraith. if I go darkwraith I guess I don't need to limit my soul levels, but for the arena I don't want to go above 100 which kinda limits my options (40 vit and 40 end seems like a necessity for the arena).

I will probably just keep her as a ganker/griefer with annoying spells and ridiculous backstabbs/ripostes.

This is ridiculously addictive. Yesterday had nothing else to do so ended up killing Gaping Dragon, Queelag, Havel and Hydra in one day. Now I'm carrying Elite Knight armor set with Zweihander, thanks to Havel's ring. Feels pretty good.

Faith - Str is super pro. Wearing full +5 Paladin, swinging around a maxed Grant/maxed Chaos Murakumo, Havel's shield in the other hand, with TWoP and WoG in waiting.

Well, after a slew of third-party fixes applied and programs downloaded, the game went from unplayable to bearable to good-looking and fun. I'm still as clumsy as ever with the right stick camera, but at least the buttons on my gamepad do what they're supposed to now, and the graphics look worthwhile.

Started a new character too, a knight (seemed the easiest starter), at level 12 now, dumping most points into endurance for now (except 1 for each of fate and dex). Will probably focus on STR after, seems logical for a S+B chara - correct me if I'm wrong.

Having to get naked to beat Asylum demon seemed a bit silly. Also, the game isn't as hard as people are saying - just very unforgiving if you go where you're "not supposed to go yet". Also a bit unfair at times (I'm looking at you, "im'a turtle and be immune to damage then hit you 10 times in 3 seconds" spearmen). Still, there are ways to adapt, and dying doesn't seem that big a deal, since you can get everything back.

Only if you don't die again while trying to get everything back :V . Though you only loose souls and humanity, neither of which is that hard to find.

The camera will be one of your main enemies though, especially in Blighttown where it prefers to look at the floor above you rather than the infected barbarian in front of you.

That's one thing people really blow out of proportion. It'll be hard at first, but that's just because the game has a pretty good learning curve. Once you get a handle on managing your equipment, settle on what kind of extras you'd like to tack on, get yourself geared up and you just learn how to fight properly it's not all that super hard. It's still challenging once you get a handle on the game in general, which is good, it's just not the super titanic thing some people make it out to be.

Fucking Sens Fortress and those retarded swinging guillotines there... It's not really hard, just the camera is wonky, the ledges too thin and those lizard fucks are annoying as hell.

Well, one reason first thing I do is rush for the pick-up point so I don't die in some silly fashion in the process  And hey, couple thousand souls is petty change, and I see very little reason to carry souls around so far, just spend em first chance I get.

If there's platforming in the future, I'll likely hate it. The camera isn't so bad except for it keeps trying to point at a slight angle up, while I prefer it at a slight angle down. Still, compared to the camera in some older Capcom games (Chaos Legion! ), and compared to me playing Dark Souls before I found the xbox controller emulator (the game decided to swap X and Y axes on my right stick for some reason), it's not so bad :D
