Dark Souls

I know, and if you do the DLC first, and then face Sif the introduction just made it a whole lot worse as he recognises you.

Defeated the Moonlight Butterfly some moments ago. Just the regular hard way, with melee attacks and a whole lot of rolling around. The time before that he did a buttload of those blue ball attacks that only come out at specific times, with their AoE they are hard to dodge, and you don't expect them either.

I used the Crest Shield (one from Oscar, not the Grass Crest Shield) and just tanked the damage with some odd rolling until it got close enough to twat. Yea not very subtle but I was going Onion Bro so subtle happened to other people. :V

Yeah I've finished the first one. I really couldn't stomach the fight with Sif though, when he started limping I just felt so bad.

I co-oped that fight with a friend, he disengaged when Sif started limping just to make me feel bad when I had to put ol' giant yeller down.

Just killed Quelaag. With help, admittedly. Though I've now come back to the point I was on my previous character in days, when that first guy took weeks. Feels good man.

Queelag doesn't have a complicated pattern, but she can do a lot of fire damage and, on consoles, the game has strokes every time she inundates the arena with lava, and abrupt framerate changes like that can definitely impact your performance in a fight. She's no Ornstein and Smough, but she's tricky.

"Easy to dodge" and "tough to dodge" aren't really an issue with given projectiles, at all, but rather an issue with the play and how they gear up for a fight. For example, a pure 100% melee character who NEVER spends any points on stats and NEVER replaces their starting equipment can kill the Moonlight Butterfly with skill alone- and it's not even THAT uber pro to accomplish. Somewhat counter-intuitively, if you overburden your character (between 75.01-99.9% burden, but no higher or lower), you INCREASE the duration of your invulnerability frames as you dodge, making avoiding the butterfly's attacks easier than if you had very low burden and really quick/evasive dodges. The game's combat system has its irritating quirks here and there, but the sum total is MASSIVELY intricate built around hundreds (if not thousands) of options for players to employ to achieve the same goals with complete different approaches. =)

Yeah, I am ashamed to admit I summoned both a player and maneater mildred.
I'd advise that you drop this ASAP. There's no shame in utilizing the resources that the game deliberately provides you to reach the end of an area or beat a boss. Those AI Phantoms exist for the explicit purpose of being there for you if you need them. No shame in that. Now... if you were to glitch the game, that's another matter, but since this isn't glitching that's rather moot. Wait till you get to NG+++ before you start talking about what you think is shameful of you to pull for the sake of victory, because by that point it starts getting considerably challenging, and you'll start abusing as many exploitative tricks at your disposal JUST to survive! XD

Also another reason to feel no shame in summoning help is that doing so INCREASES enemy HP, so you're not cutting corners at all. If you're good enough to solo a boss, you'll kill them more quickly than if you summoned a phantom for that exact same boss who didn't do anything at all, because all the bosses HP pools will be noticeably increased.

[Queelag]'s no Ornstein and Smough, but she's tricky.
Ah, my favorite fight in the whole game. Toughest boss battle for me to handle while attempting EpicNameBro's Master's Challenge (starting gear only + rings, no summons, no estus flask), but damn did I feel pleased when I beat them. Ah, the memories... ^^

She does that whether you're alone or with friends. None of the bosses change their behavior based on the number of players present, that just impacts how their AI will react to "targets" being in different places more quickly than usual, so they appear to be erratic.

To be fair, it can be more difficult to discern a boss pattern when you're co-oping given it might change aggro mid-way. Granted, the benefits greatly outweight the cons.

I still miss the user rating system from Demon's Souls. Let's be honest, some guys DESERVED to have their total souls reward deducted, but sending them back to their world without taking on the Demon at the end of each area wasn't always the go-to choice to handle such twerps. And thus the user rating system. Users who don't have an inhumanly overwhelming S and A grade and have an unnervingly present C and D grade will arise suspicion, and you'll pick other users who have better grades and far more summons to average those grades across, so not even getting summoned in the long run is a fitting punishment for being a griefing douchebag or a singularly worthless hindrance. I didn't mind Dark Souls hid the rating of messages without using an ability to spot trick messages that received highly negative ratings, but taking away user rating didn't seem to help anything. It's not like getting less souls was that much of a handicap, you could just farm up more, but being able to spot a troll before summoning them is a helpful resource that the game could've certainly benefited from, only they deliberately chose to cut that perk out. =/

Wowzers, made it to Anor Londo. Now I'm debating whether I'm going to go ahead and go down that elevator to where the gargoyle is, or spend the 50k souls I have. See, I'm SL 47, and that was a bit too high for where I was at, I figured. Do I need to stay at 47 for a bit if I still want to summon/get summoned/do pvp?

Oh and yes, I indeed did some pvp before. I killed my first invader, and killed the first person I invaded. I was going to Sif the first time when some guy with two shields attacked me. I bet he thought I was a piece of cake, and I thought he'd smash me because I couldn't know how good he was and I was a pvp virgin. After I hit him 2 times he switched to the demon's great axe I think? An axe like that. He hit me a few times, but I got him in the end. I think he tried to lure me to the bridge to kick me off, but I wasn't falling for it.

And the guy I invaded I mistook for an npc at first. He was dressed in full black knight gear you see. I also thought it must be an npc because the fight was so easy, untill I got the message after killing him.

You should be ok to level up, you can still summon/be summoned within 10 levels (give or take). I can't remember what the average pvp level is for optimum pvp but it also varies across different areas, in part due to natural level progression and pvp communities/regulars that maintain that level range. I think both my pvp guys are around 100ish but I mostly pvp in Lord Gwyn's area.

There may be less pvp anyway because Dark Souls 2 is out and there's some much richer pvp to be had there.

Heh, saw a video once of someone pretending to be a Silver Knight and seeing how long it took until the invaders noticed. Even throwing the speaking stones found in Oolicile down one guy never did.

You won't have much trouble with summons as long as you're below SL 130, though I suppose DSII might have changed that. Regardless, even if you level up "too much" for the area you're in at your current playthrough, you're still going to be WELL within the range (if not frightening below) of players in that same area on NG+, NG++, NG+++, and so on. As long as there are players and an area is popular for summoning, you shouldn't have much trouble with coop or PVP.

That said, spend your souls! There is NO point in bankrolling souls in the Souls series, and at the point you've reached, there's a startlingly high density of instant-death traps one after another after another after another, so if you don't spend those souls, you're guaranteed to lose them all. Anor Londo is where the game stops playing with you and starts treating you like you're serious at kicking its ass. If you had any difficulty making it out of Sen's Fortress, Anor Londo will be a nightmare to you. So don't hold onto those souls if you have something you can spend them on, and there's ALWAYS something to spend them on!

Spent those souls. Now how the fuck am I going to get past those asshole archers who fucking suck dick god damnit can you tell I'm pissed yet

Oh I got it.
