Dead State is now on Kickstarter

like a zombie XCOM.
That.... that just sounds way awesome!
Nice screen too. 3D is starting to do this Isometric thing quite well. Remember NWN? I never played it because it was too ugly compared to the 2d CRPGs of fond memory.

I thought Rebuild as soon as I saw the game. However, the interactions between survivors and tactical combat certainly do make this game far more fun.

Not entirely interested in zombies, so no pledge from me (Wasteland 2 got it all). But it'd be fun to see how this turns out.

Rebuild(and the sequel) are fun for a little bit. Build/acquire some schools and train everyone in combat = win.
Dead State looks pretty good so far. I had trouble convincing myself to throw in more than $15, though. If the project ends up cutting it close I'll up the ante, but for now the enticement to pledge more just isn't there for me. Maybe if they/he drops the T-shirt down to the $50 pledge or something.
36k already. Exceeding the (relatively extremely low)goal doesn't seem like it'll be a problem.

Pledged as soon as I saw it on rpgwatch.
This one, Wasteland 2, ShadowRun and Age of Decadence - so much oldschool RPG goodness, I will probably have to quit my job to play them all or something.

Sounds like Jagged Alliance with zombies... Booyeah.

Seriously, people watch Walking Dead for the human interactions? We truly live in the trashy reality TV generation.
Saw the first season, it's a good show, but I don't recall being particularly fond of any of the characters. I was happy to see some of them get eaten, wished more of them got eaten. I wanted more because I wanted more zombies.

I don't think zombies are overdone, I think they're over analyzed.

Too many people trying to do something 'different' without getting the basics down.
Too many people trying to make a statement about the human condition or some other pretentious, recent film graduate-style, philosophical garbage.
You have a few good zombie action movies that are at least somewhat intelligent. Then you have so, so many goofy comedies, mind-numbingly boring 'intellectual' zombie movies and even more that look like a bunch of bros with no acting ability who get some airsoft guns and want to look cool on camera, but think that anyone can do the Blair Witch-style, filmed on a handy-cam movie.

As for games, to my knowledge, and I could easily have missed it. Nobody's made the great, sandbox, zombie apocalypse, survival game.
Get from point A to Point be however you like with a character creation system like fallout.
Build fortifications, keep quiet, scavenge for supplies, use ammo sparingly, avoid using guns at all because of the noise. Things that have been discussed to death in every wannabe-survivalist zombie forum, because it makes sense and would be awesome! But nobody's actually done it!... Ok I'm done now.

Moonrabbit; there is a mod for Arma2 called DayZ that is about zombiesurvival but its pain in the ass to make it work and its still on beta.

I've put a $100 towards the project - why not?

Seems like its shaping up to be a good looking game, fallout meets x-com meets jagged alliance.

All good gravy.

Not even Beta, its still in Alpha - still impressive game once you get it up and running, just a shame the MW kiddies are spoiling it with the constant PK'ing.

This. The DayZ experience was the BEST during the first 1-3 weeks it was out. Now, its just a deathmatch with 50 people on a 255sqkm map.

As for Moonrabbit, I enjoyed 100% of that post. You should post more.

Always funny when people argue with "MW kiddies" and stuff (especially on the DayZ forum). This has nothing to do with COD or any new age shooter, it's a simple and logical reaction, which exists since Ultima Online. It is easier to kill other people for their stuff than searching by your self. Also, as you do not see any mimic and gestures on the persons in front of you, there is nothing that tells you about the danger of the current situation- you have no idea if the person is scared, angry, going to attack you, or shits their pants, so the only way not to lose all your gear is to shoot first. And this leads to the current DayZ-situation, which also applies to any other full pvp, full loot online game which exists on this world.

Lexx, I take it you're the 'shoot first' type of DayZ player then...

The game has changed since its initial release for the worse in my opinion, team-work isnt happening and the maturity of the playerbase has dropped significantly.

DayZ is still a very good survival game but it is being spoilt by this type of mentality.

He's not denying that is happening, man, he's saying it's inevitable if you structure your game like this.

If I get spotted, yes. Because I don't want to lose my gear- and I have good gear, not just a Winchester and ALICE backpack with beans in it. If I don't get spotted, then I am avoiding contact to other random people, simply because it is more secure not to show your position (and with gunfire, you tell everyone in the area where you are). Everyone with good gear is acting like this, as it is too easy to lose everything.

Oh NOEZ! I am suffering from the logical, natural reaction to the incentive structure that the game provides!

is there not way to tell if someone killed many other people for their gear?

I mean that would be really something "good" in my eyes. Kill to many, and you get a "stigma" of some sort.

A bounty system would work. Mark certain people as player killers or something maybe?

I already made the DayZ thread in General Gaming...
They had something like that, you turned into another "skin" of a bandit to show you murdered people... I think they got rid of it though.
Too many people complained they became bandits defending themselves from attempted murders.
The level of situational awareness required to avoid other people, on such a huge map, really takes it out of you. Something akin to being your own point man the entire time you play. The best bet is to get into someone's ventrillo server and group up.

The bandit-skin was flawed, because people became bandits by purely defending themself from other people.

Becasue it is SO MATURE to call people "MW kiddies" for acting logically in a game, that only gives you so much incentive, right?

You reap what you sow.
