Desslock and Fallout combat/viewpoint

I have no idea.

The whole "first person is locked" thing is technically untrue anyway. They might design it as a first person game, but why would they take a rotating camera angle, a feature from Oblivion, out of it for no good reason.

Other than that, what does he mean? That it's RT/FP but the decision isn't locked in the development cycle? That it's RT/FP but it's not technically locked? That it's RT/iso? That it's TB/iso? And interpretation is valid

What Desslock meant to say was: "It will be first person and real time combat with the option of third person viewpoint!"

Well assuming he really knows, he wouldn't say hes wrong unless he actually is. So I'll take it as positive hope until one of you NMA Vets says so with good reason otherwise (shouldn't be long ;P)

So I'd take it as F3 won't be real-time and first person
It'd be stupid if he just meant that you can go to 3rd person, but said it in such a forceful way like the guy was completely wrong..

Maybe they figured out a way for a FP/RT AND A TB/ISO. I think that may be ground breaking for bethesda.

Well I'm pretty sure its been established that it can only really be one or the other and work out well.

But they Say Bethesda is ground breaking,
even if it is for digging graves....

Someone go and ask him, because I surely don't know if he means that isn't decided yet (which would be too bizarre, and not what we've heard) or that the game won't be FP and RT only. I honestly don't know, and he won't say more, so...

Exactly.

As I posted on the Codex, Desslock visited Bethesda 4 months ago and then wrote that short article with tips for the developers. Tip #1 was "Oblivion action combat won't cut it". Needless to say if he saw a TB prototype or was told that the game is TB, he wouldn't have written anything about the action combat.

Don't know enough about Desslock for that. If it's RTwP, he might be one of those people who thinks RTwP is "tactical" combat, not action combat...

Maybe "they" put him up to it to judge our reaction, OR maybe he does know something we don't. Let me get my crow bar and ask him :violent: :violent:

Hope someone can get a hold of him and find out, is he really in a position to know something like this anyway? As far as I know he only stumbled across Concept-Art, and if he did get a good (as in any reply of substance) from Bethesda then is there anyway I can see it?

There are many games with more than one camera option.
And there are many games with RT-pause, which doesn't make anything better.
And so there are many possibilities for interpretations.

Hello, can you guys elaborate please on what will happen 7 days from now for those who didn't hear the word?

Considering that Desslock says TES: Oblivion is a superlative RPG that achieves more than he even thought possible, I think it's safe to say that he's speaking from below Todd Howard's waistline(with Pete reciprocating). I calculate a 50% probability that he's lying through his teeth, a 40% probability he meant that it has veriable camera angles much like TES:O, and a 10% probability he failed a comprehension role versus Briosa.

In an exclusive interview with the UK Official Xbox Magazine, Bethesda have revealed more details about Fallout 3, the legendary post-apocalyptic RPG franchise they took over in 2004.

Speaking to Todd Howard (Executive producer of Oblivion, Morrowind and Fallout) with regard to Bethesda's plans for 2007 and beyond, he told us; "We started work (on Fallout 3) in late 2004 with a few people. We only had about 10 people on it until Oblivion wrapped, but most of our staff is on it now." Is it wishful thinking that Fallout 3 will eventually be released on Microsoft's next-gen machine? With the game itself utilising the same Gamebryo engine as Oblivion, perhaps not. And promised to be as huge and open-ended as their multi-award winning 2006 effort, demand for Fallout 3 on the Xbox 360 would be huge.

"We have pretty long preproduction phases on our stuff," continues Howard "doing concepts, design, building prototypes, and such. We should be ready soon to show it off, but we'll see."

For more details and the full interview with Bethesda, check out issue 18 of the Official Xbox 360 Magazine, on sale from the 15th of February. But in the meantime speculate on this new info in the comments box below!
