Disney meets Bethesda meets HBO? New Star Wars movie

Honestly every time someone says how Star Wars 7 had shitty writing something inside me dies. I can't handle hypocrisy. I mean seriously guys, was the first movie ANY better?
Objectively? I would say, yes.
Sure, A New Hope is not some kind of metaphysical journey that is pushing you in a deep philosophical crisis. But who ever said it has to be? Just because something is simple, doesn't mean it's bad. But If I compare both movies directly, the new Star Wars movie, feels like a soft reboot, but with slightly worse acting, slightly worse writing, and worse pacing.
I will give you one example. With A New Hope, the first time Ben and Luke meet each other, I had the feeling like they already knew each other. Probably for years. And the way how they travel together, it is a relationship of teacher and student. The character have enough time to create what I think is called a character arch. I never had this feeling with Rey and Han. She's not a bad character, god knows they made MUCH worse decisions in Episode 1, but I am feeling the movie has an awfull pacing when it comes to character development.

Really? While I enjoyed the first movie (and honestly, enjoyed the new one) I couldn't get over how short the interaction between Ben and Luke. To me it seemed like they had no time whatsoever with each other, and so I couldn't really be sad about Ben's death.

Originality? ORIGINALITY?

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Izak, don't make me laugh.
Disney did say they had to blow up all the EU "to give maximum creative freedom to the filmmakers". I don't see any ounce of creativity in TFA and that piss me off, it's like listening to Todd Howard sweet lies again. And on a personal note, the films never meant anything to me, all I cared about was the Old Republic up to 1000 B.Y. and the Clone Wars comics, it's an other reason to be pissed, but hey, at this point I don't give a shit about Star Wars, I'd rather waste my time on reading 19th Century Russians and French writers.

I pretty much only care for Star Wars stuff released before 1999 and only a handful of stuff after it such as Jedi Outcast, Jedi Academy (the game, not those books), KOTOR 1 and 2, and Galactic Civil War and New Republic stuff that does not refer to the Prequels or the Yuuzhan Vong stuff.

BTW, the KOTOR prequel comic series was actually kind of an enjoyable read.
Also thought that Star Wars Knight Errant was okay in general.
(and both featured female protagonists that are well developed characters male and female readers would root for)

I liked the Mandalorian Wars up to the Second Destruction of Malachor.
I like it how the evil guys were actually trying to secure the galaxy and save people's lives, in the face of Jedi apathy. In fact this makes me feel that they went due to seeing how shitty the Jedi council was and attempt their own version of control. Also, who doesn't like arguing with ------ (I forgot the white haired women's name who ran the Talos Jedi Academy) about justification?

Her name was Atris

In my opinion KOTOR 1 and 2 were much superior to The Old Republic which pretty much shat over these two games with all its overdone concepts.
A Sith leader who is basically a living god now who did not create one but two empires, the Jedi Exile quickly killed off in a book, Revan slowly ruined (first in said book, then the expansions to TOR), shitloads of super weapons which makes you wonder why the Empire even bothered with the Death Star, and so many other elements that made the Old Republic era less interesting.

I wish my last vestiges in Star Wars would disappear as I have come to loathe it.

Thanks.

Yeah they really had some fantastic lore, and I loved the conflicts. I don't talk about the Old Republic, it doesn't exist.

Anyone else mourn the Dark Horse Tales of the Jedi era ? Exar Kun and Naga Saddow will never be forgotten in my black heart. Tangentially related; Malachor is now canon as it showed up in the latest season of Rebels.

The first EU comics I've read were Tales of the Jedi. The art style was so amazing that it sucked me into the EU for a decade or so. It was less scifi than an epic, the narration of legendary deeds of noble or infamous heros, and that's the other reason why I loved TofJ.

I didn't really like the art style of the Tales of the Jedi, this weird blend of almost pre industrial technology and architecture and yet also space travel. If someone had told me that the ships were actually crafted of wood I would have believed it.
Only later did it get somewhat better but I still did not like it.

Sorry to the fans of that but that is why I prefer KOTOR 1 and 2 over them. Sure the style was more Classic Star Wars done retro such as the ships and robots but it worked for me.

Definitely agree, KOTOR really nailed that nostalgic feel of heroes and smugglers, while retaining a well written story and grey characters. Also, the games were great.

KoTOR had some questionable design chocies I'm thinking about those awful jedi nightgowns, thankfully Obsidian made the game actually look more like a Star Wars game

It makes you wonder what a KOTOR3 would have been like, preferably by Obsidian.
I really would have liked to explore places like Coruscant in this period along with new worlds of course.

Also, I would have been interested in a Jedi Knight spin off/TC during this period, the player perhaps fighting Mandalorian Neo Crusaders, Revan's Sith Empire (or the Sith Triumvirate), battle droids, bounty hunters, and so on.

This period just had its own interesting atmosphere and settings. I really like the Classic Star Wars setting but I also like this one as it had its own theme and elements.
While I liked the New Republic era in general such as the Zahn stuff, X Wing, Jedi Knight games, and several other media release, there was sadly also a lot of crap such as the Jedi Academy trilogy and other books.
And when it moved into the NJO period Star Wars basically lost me as I got sick of the 'In the Star Wars universe there is only war' theme that then took hold. The Yuuzhan Vong invasion, the Killik War, the second Galactic Civil War, that crap with Abeloth and the Lost Tribe of the Sith. (yeah I am full of useless EU trivia)
I could understand what Disney thought some of this was to much to work with.

But I wasn't really a big fan of the Prequel era before the Dark Times either. Despite the exciting sounding theme of the Clone Wars; clones versus robot armies, it in general did not work for me as I did not like the movies.
Only some of the 'just before Episode 4' stuff works for me like Brian Daley's Han Solo Adventures which really took me back to a more nostalgic time in space adventure stories.

So an era set thousands of years before Classic Star Wars was a pretty good way to tell new stories that would take place during a period of unrest and war.
