True, nothing mind blowing. It does look sharp though.

And if you ask me, Crysis 2 doesn't look impressive either. Right now I doubt graphics will get so much better than we will be truly impressed with something.

I think there are 2 reasons for it, one that many games are done for the console today which means they have to sacrifice certain aspects as at the moment the console is behind the PC and it will not change before new generations of consoles arrive.

The other side is that we already reached a very high quality with the visuals and the higher the quality is the more difficult it will be to exceed that.

What I would like though is to see Skyrim in motion. All the animations and the faces while talking with the voice acting. Those are the parts which I really think is interesting today. At least with Bethesda games since neither Oblivion nor Fallout 3 had even average animations.

When it comes to the Visuals the new screenshots just seem not all to impressive from the textures and particularly the first person model like the weapon and hand etc. ... looks very ugly ... I thought we got rid of "ugly" hands ... the arm looks like it could be from doom or half life 1 ...

The character render looks impressive, people actually look like people now!
I agree the face they have shown looked finally like a "believable" human face. Finally ! But I want to see it in motion.

Because I am super suuuuper super super pessimistic and sceptical with Bethesda games.

Don't know why everybody hates the Oblivion and F3 animations. They aren't particularly good, but they are average\decent if you ask me. Saw a lot better, but also saw a lot worse to complain.

Ever jumped in third person?

There's a rumor that I've read on a few comment/forums that claim those screens are from the 360 version? Apparently there's a thread on the Bethesda forums debating it but I haven't looked yet.

Ever seen the dog walking around? Or the "spin" effect where NPC's simply rotate towards the main character if he initiates a conversation? Kind of like they are sitting on top of a stagnant spinning top.

Edit:

Ever walked in third person?

Yeah, but 3rd person mode is ugly and flawed by default. The rest still seems average/decent enough.

These aren't screenshots... they're scans of screenshots in a printed magazine. The actual graphics themselves can only be more impressive. I like it, looks much more detailed.

Well obviously the things you see in 3rd person on your character you will see on other characters as well.

On the other side. It was really that bad in Oblivion like most people say. Remember we are not talking about a small company here but one wich sees it self as a top-developer (particularly when it comes to the marketing). And I just find it pretty amazing that they offer animations worse compared to a 10 year old game ...

I agree it sometimes looks like simple button smashing and useless cuting. But remember the game is really old and it does a lot of animations better then Oblivion.

GameBanshee brings word that Todd Howard took stage at the Spike TV VGAs to announced Bethesda's next title: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
It's just a sign of the sad times we're living in the fact that something like the new The Elder Scrolls iteration deserves a place as front-page news material in the world's nº 1 Fallout site.

:(

guess which engine might be a potential canditate for Fallout 4. Then you know why it gets its place on the front page as news. ;)

Oh, don't get me wrong; I know the exact reasons for this to be happening. And it's precisely those reasons what makes the times we're living in that sad.

Ok, now this looks poor.

I dunno, it looks like one of those newer Tomb Raider games, like Anniversary and Underworld. Hell, I'd bet that something similar can be done on the Oblivion engine.

That looks truly beautiful...it's a pity that Bethesda don't have the talent to take that world and make something really magnificent...if they have mechanics, and story to match the visuals, then I'll salute them, but why do I feel like I've heard this all this before - Oh yeah, they called it Oblivion, and the majority of players that played Morrowind before Oblivion found it a less fulfilling experience (yet a more enriched environment).

Will the fans of Oblivion be bitching about Skyrim if it follows in the path that Bethesda typically take - Visuals over Gameplay, only time can tell.

It's going to look a few years old upon release but it's definitely a major leap from what Fallout 3 looked like. I worry about engine optimization though, it's fine if it looks a few years old if it uses the same amount of juice that those games did but if it requires as much as a bleeding edge game, it'll be a problem.

Keep in mind that this screenshot is of a very photographic location, as it consists mostly of architecture, dead trees, simple foliage, and waterfalls (which are easy to make look good if done right), all at significant distance (to hide texture resolution). Also note that this is a jpg that they didn't go light on compression on, hiding both possible alterations (for which Bethesda is known) and fine detail.

That's because they always use the console versions for the screenshots in Crysis 2.
The PC version should have better textures.

It's really not that impressive though. Some things like the twig on the right side look bad.

Looking more forward to see it in motion to get an accurate impression.

By the way. Are my eyes playing tricks on me or are there still no shadows?
