End of Free speech in Europe or just hype?

How hard is it to understand the joke? It's in the absurdity of teaching a dog a movement that is deemed crass and offensive. The dog doesn't understand any of it, of course,

You said it yourself, it's not ironic, it's absurd. The joke still heavily relates to either pushing out negative stereotypes or doing shit that's considered taboo.

Kind of a non-sequitor here.
As much problem as most other countries here. They exist and they are growing worryingly, but not to a degree where there are death squadrons roaming the streets killing undesirables. Pretty sure a Heil-Hitlering pug on the Internet won't increase the risk of that happening.
We do have too much rightwing violence, although I guess not more than any other country.

You'll understand when tagged turf near you irl with razor bladed posters is the least racist graffiti.

Being American I can’t really say much, but I do think that Article 13 is the pinnacle of stupid bullshit. As for the main question... my hopes aren’t high either, but understand that I’m an outsider looking in. I look at Europe with its heavy gun control (not to start that argument) and shit like this and go “what the fuck are you people doing over there? Be a chaotic, schizophrenic mess ruined by the 2 party system like us!”

To get to the point, I don’t think it’s the end of free speech because I don’t think the citizens of Europe will take this lying down. I like to hope that the masters of rioting revolution (the French) at least will protest. But again, I’m not there. I’m not experiencing what you guys are. I hope for the best for my friends across the pond, regardless. Best of luck, amici.

Ok, I will be stupid one, what was the point of the joke anyway?

There doesn't need to be a point other than making someone laugh. Someone is going to find humor in the absurdity of a pug watching Hitler videos and seig heiling on command, and likely someone else will be offended by it.

The entire point of jokes, and by extension comedy, is to gleefully push and step over the boundaries. Jimmy Carr's mosquito joke probably rubbed a lot of people the wrong way.

But what exactly made it fun?

Just to make this clear so no one gets the wrong idea, I do not think the guy deserved any punishment for it.

It’s one of those things that you can’t really pin down. Why is Chris Porter being a very angry man hilarious to me and abrasive to others?

Humor is something that really depends on the person, and there’s nothing in the world, no matter who absurd, that someone won’t find funny. I could honestly care less about the dog seig heiling, because despite being a quarter Jewish I see it for what it is; a joke. It wasn’t meant in a malicious way, and people can complain about “normalization of bigotry” and shit all they want, end of the day people have been telling jokes since speech was a thing. You’re not gonna stop it, as much as it may upset the control freaks out there. Best thing to do is just avoid what offends you.

I think you're missunderstanding me. I just want someone to explain the joke.
Short version is that Hitler is obviously offensive, so going against the societal taboo of treating Nazism with disgust and avoidance is humorous to some based wholly on the fact that it’s “wrong”. It’s funny because it’s ridiculous, and defies all that is “proper”.

Cause he murdered people, is the general consensus. I personally don’t really find anything except rape offensive; you want my opinion, I’m of the mind that if you can joke about serial killers you can joke about Hitler and Nazis. Unless someone specifically says that they’re triggered by something, I tend not to censor myself because I see it as pointless. If someone doesn’t like me, they can tell me or fuck off. But if someone has had legitimate past experiences that I’ve brought to the surface, then I’ll censor myself in an attempt to lessen the blow.

TL;DR: Hitler is seen as offensive because he was a delusional mass murderer, and I’ll only censor myself if someone tells me that they’re offended by something. Otherwise how am I supposed to know unless I walk on eggshells? I’d never ask anyone to do that for me, so why should they ask it of me?

Nazis are generally considered kinda bad people, and their acts as atrocious as it gets. The implication of a pug of all animals supporting them is such a stark contrast between what classic nazi propaganda proclaimed and what this pug really is that it becomes very funny.

Plot twist: the pug was a Stalinist all along.

It's about time for Germany to adapt article 13 and kick memelords in the balls.
