F:NV Mods

So Old I'm Losing Radiation Signs
Orderite
I'm going to really give Fallout: New Vegas a serious go but was wondering if you guys have any "must use" mods.

I don't have a powerhouse gaming rig so I can't really use any "uber awesome high res texture packs". I'm looking more for the kind of mods that add features that make the game better.

Thanks!

New Vegas Error Corrections Complete

Manual Reload

Weapon Jamming (no Reload Jams)

Shoud get you a good start. Read everything.

Honestly I hate modding NV it takes an entire day to set things up.

Looking at my mod list...

-Project Nevada if you want to improve the shooting. It has lots of features such as sprint and grenade hotkey, but also makes the game harder (notably by vastly reducing the PC's hitpoint gains). All customizable. A great mod IMO.

-Primary Needs HUD, means you don't have to open the menu to see how high your needs are, Simple but useful.

-Improved sound FX, dramatically improves gun FX. In vanilla they sound like peashooters, but with this mod gunfire actually sounds like gunfire.

-Pipboy 2500; removes that ugly ass thing on your arm and makes the menu a PDA that looks like the one in FO1 and 2.

-Sorter combined; sorts items in the inventory by category (food, ammo, cards, ect). Very useful.

-New Vegas Bounties, a series of side-quests that give nice rewards (nothing game breaking), is fun to play, and integrates well into the game's world.

-Killing Karma fix; makes it so you don't get good karma by killing ''evil'' people, because ''evil'' people attack you on sight and your karma will reach sainthood by the time you're level 8 even if you're a massive asshole.

I have others, but those are the ones I couldn't really play without. Also, there are textures packs that only affect weapons, they're not ressource-intensive but some weapons are so low-res when it comes to textures it's practically a must-have for me.

The great thing about New Vegas Error Corrections (Complete) is that it comes with like 300 mods. So DIEMIOS is in there. NV Bounties I&II are also included. And a slew of small mods that either add to the game in small meaningful ways or just fixer mods that fix annoying things. It's really worth it to read what it contains so you don't bloat your data folder with redundant shit.

Oh and it contains mission mojave which is a huge bugfixing compilation of mods to help the game run with less crashing and oddities.

Nevada Skies I always use, beauties up the game a treat.
Never felt Vegas really needed that many core mechanic mods so I mostly just use the aesthetic ones.
Oh and the J Sawyer's mod, for the added Sawyer.

Some of these have been mentioned already. Oh well.

Sawyers mod. Must have.

NVinteriors adds so much it would be a crime not to use it. I always wanted to explore those train cars and some of those boarded up building. Now you can!

DFB Random Encounters adds a few spawn points with enemies of your choosing. Enclave is off by default thank God. It's one of those mods that is essential for me, simply because I know where every single enemy is in the vanilla game, and it gets boring after awhile without some variety.

Try Performance of the Gods if your computer is real crappy. It will speed things up. http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/45475

Darnified UI is a must, to get rid of those ugly ass fonts. Mtui is a nice alternative.

Pipboy 2500 is the perfect mix of nostalgia and improvements. Lots of skins for the readius mods too.

Centered 3rd person camera does just what it says. You can even zoom out and almost trick yourself into believing it is Fallout 2...almost.

Weapon Mods Expanded allows you to mod unique weapons, adds a few mods, and works quite well with Project Nevada. It never leaves my load order.

Personally, I like making my raider chicks look like wasteland sluts with genitalia piercings, titties hanging out, and other such perversions. For instance, it bothered me in Gomorrah how the whores didn't dress like whores. I fixed that. Just a minor thing that bugged me.

Bottle that Water mod is great too. It does what it says.

KDE Portable Camp Stuff is worth checking out too. It's hard to describe, but you can basically drop various things such as stairs, beds, walls, campfires, reloading benches, to make your own campsite or home. http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/46195

I always use a backpack mod too because, well, it makes sense in the wasteland to have something to carry your shit in. Shit needs to be carried people. It doesn't magically disappear. Stupid game designers j/k...

Tfh Rugged Race. Make your men look like MEN. I just started a playthrough with this, and I will NEVER play without it again. You want to look like Clint Eastwood? Now you can. http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/48629

Fake fullscreen. Improves stability. Now you can alt tab without crashing. http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/41381

4gbextender. Use it. Love it. You need it. http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/35262

Casino heist. Adds lots of caps to the casinos since they didn't have any for you to rob. http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/41847

Arwens realism tweaks is one of those acquired tastes. It makes so many changes to the game, it's like a whole new game at times. You have to have a knife to skin stuff, you must worry about bacteria infections, strain from carrying too much gear (or you will pass out), and if one of your limbs gets crippled you can't use two handed weapons at all. So many changes that I can't list them all. Just read it to see if you want it. http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/34759

I don't use Nevada Skies anymore since it bogs my system down and can be a bit glitchy at times. I don't look at the sky that much anyway. It's pretty though. The alternative to that one is Project Reality.

Am I the only one who finds the Darnified Fonts even worse than the original? Looks nothing "Fallout" like at all to me.

They just look smaller to me. Nothing different besides that, or am I missing something? Have you used them? It's more pleasing to my eyes at any rate. Saves me from scrolling so much too. Not to mention I have put over 500 hours into New Vegas with vanilla settings, so after awhile I just want something more streamlined.

To explain, NVEC is pretty much a must-have, and comes in a couple different flavors. The EC stands for two different things.

"New Vegas Error Corrections" simply makes the game run smoother and cleans up a lot of the mistakes left over in the code.

"New Vegas Enhanced Content" Enhanced Content adds in a number of other mods and additions that serve as both being lore friendly and fun while also running pretty cleanly.

Project Nevada.

Can't play without the darnified font stuff. The vanilla interface is so horrible and ultra big, everything that makes it smaller and fits more text on screen is a good thing.

What I don't like of Darnified is that I have to uninstall and reinstall it along with 3 other mods (aHud and iHud) whenever I update Project Nevada. Or install a mod that modifies something of the Hud, But aside from that, its more pleasant to the eyes than the vanilla font.

Fake Fullscreen cut my FPS in half. Beware.

Also you can easily use classic Fallout 1/2 font in darn's UI if you know how to set it up.

Weird. I wonder why?

Is modding F:NV easy? I tried reading how to do it online and it seems a bit more complicated than modding Morrowind was...

Do I need that Mod Manager software? I also read about a Script Extender for the Pipboy 2500 mod? Little lost here.

The script extender is required by a number of mods. In the description info they will let you know. Watch these tutorials. I can help you if you need it too. Installing mods for New Vegas can be frustrating for beginners, but once you learn the ropes, it's actually pretty simple. Sometimes it depends on the mod, but usually, with Nexus Mod Manager, you don't have to do much of anything besides click a few buttons. The script extender isn't always required, it just depends on what mods you want to use. Project Nevada? You need it. 4g extender? Need it. CASM (save manager)? Need it. Basically, the most popular mods need it.

It's not a bad thing to install at any rate. Drag some files into the New Vegas folder. Done.

You don't NEED it, but if you get it you will save yourself so much pain, and micro management.

Modding any TES game is a huge pain in the ass. This video SERIES might not be entirely up-to-date, but having used it to start my last go though of mods a few months ago, I recommend it.

http://youtu.be/MII4TO-G634

there is also another series by GophersVids which apparently goes into more depth with people new to modding.

Trust me, the more you know, before you start, the better off you are.

I posted Gophers.

Good LORD that tutorial looks a tad daunting (to those of us beginners, of course). Heh, my biggest hurdles always seem to be just getting past the initial anxiety and getting it started. >.<

I'm in the same boat as you. I wanna get my FONV up and running with a particular set of mods, but doing the research itself is always a little slow. There's no one place to stop and find all the answers, but of course you know that, thus the thread to ask questions for whoever might know.

From what little I do know, however, the answer to your question about the Mod Manager seems to be "yes". Unless you enjoy manually sifting through code, the FOMM is a must, I'm told. Makes sense, it seems.
