Fallout 2 Restoration Project 1.1 (Unofficial FO2 Expansion)

No, did not save during combat. Never do.

Clean + Humongous. Can save anywere else but when that happened. Nothing wrong with my installation, no optional mods, no nothing. Don't go assuming things. You know what assuming does, dontcha?

The only abnormal thing I did was loot his Minigun when he's supposed to run away (and keep it).

One more thing:

-I get a crash when I try to go down from Trapper Town to the Rat Caves/Sewer. I first got this with the 1.1 version + fixes that were available yesterday. I now applied your latest fix and reloaded, no difference. I get a black screen, and have to alt-tab and terminate the process from the Windows Task Manager.

Running Windows XP Pro (MCE 2005?), as I said new F2 installation (European/International) manual full install, then 1.02 official patch, then your 1.1 mod then all the fixes to date. Loading screen says "Fallout 2 1.02.23 EXP 1.1"

edit:
Reverting to old Fallout.exe I can't go back to Klamath Center either. With the your new Fallout.exe I can go back to Klamath Center but if I go to the world map it breaks down - really slow cursor movement, jerky music and I can't click anywhere or leave the travel screen.

Official Patch not needed!!! Trying reading the ReadMe file in the download or try reading this thread (yes the entire thread!) or simply TRY READING!!!

OK, so what do I do? I added files that are not needed, so are there files that I can delete which will fix the problem?

FYI I did read the entire thread, and it doesn't say that anywhere. The closest I can find is
"*Note: The expansion includes my unofficial patch, thus there is no need to install it separately. "
which suggests it's optional, and not the same thing.

Installing the official patch first shouldn't hurt anything. I wrote the installer to handle cases where the patch000.dat file is present or not which is the only thing to worry about when one installs the official 1.02 patch. So, it is okay to install the official patch first but not needed. I never do it so I cannot say whether things break or not with installing it first. My expansion (and unofficial patch for that matter) already includes the official 1.02 patch, so again there is no need to install it separately. The only bad thing someone might do in this situation is install the 1.02 patch last. That would be no-no. In any case, all you need to do to install my expansion is have the game install as humongous and then install the expansion. Nothing else.

As for the new ddraw.dll, ddraw.ini, fallout2.exe files that I posted, they were not meant to fix the odd crashes that some of you reported (like the EPA, Klamath, etc) The were meant to fix more odd combat crashes, give you encounter frequency customization, and maybe even fix the blank encounters. Many of you are reporting issues I frankly never heard of nor have any idea what causes the problem since I personally cannot reproduce it. Every machine really seems to be acting differently here...

Thanks for the reply.

So have you heard any other reports of Trappertown/Sewers crashes?

I am wondering whether to start all over again (if I remove patch000 the saves become incompatible) or continue on and hope there are no other problems in other locations.. annoying because I was doing this on Iron Man but at least I have only Arroyo and half of Klamath to re-do, could be worse.

Apart from EPA, are there any other problems being commonly reported? Is the game finishable in its present form?

Wait a minute. You have a patch000.dat file in your Fallout2 directory? If so, this is your problem. I take it you did not use my installer? Either way, this file must *NOT* be present and you have to delete it and start a *NEW* game.

Sorry, didn't mean to imply I assumed anything. The "can't save" thing sounded like you always had it, not just after ruthlessly stealing Kaga's gun... or whole body... or whatever it was. =]

Getting a bit tired of the temple of trials now... curse my impatience!

I believe what I did was:

Full manual F2 installation
Official patch 1.02 (you said it's not needed but not that I shouldn't have it) - this adds the patch000
Automatic installer of your 1.1 mod
Added the latest fixes

Actually I think I may have installed the patch after... my game wasn't starting, F2.exe saying "need CD"/"visual themes"/and just not starting, so I needed another copy of F2.exe which I got from the official patch.

I'm not sure but I might have done that by mistake, can't remember.

Okay, well my previous statements assume you are using the installer if you install the official 1.02 patch first. Since you installed the expansion manually, there is no installer to remove the patch000.dat file. In any case, this file must not be present and you have to now remove it and start a new game. This will fix your problem.

That is because you didn't read the readme and how to install the expansion manually. The manual install has two folders which inlcude the exe file you need depending on the OS you are running. Is there any reason you did not use the installer?

I did use the auto installer. The Manual Install I talked about refers to F2, the default game not your mod.

With your installer I selected my F2 directory and it created a 'New Folder' within that with the files. I cut and pasted this into my main directory. Maybe that was the problem, it mis-identified the main F2 directory.

Anyway, whatever it is, I'm pretty sure I made a mistake somewhere along the line, I'm going to start all over again without the patch and read the ReadMe carefully again.

Hope it works.

It might be worth changing the PatchFile line in your default ddraw.ini to some random string of characters as a workaround for anyone who gets stuck with a dat file from one of the official patches for whatever reason.

Good point. I shall do that. Thanks for the suggestion.

After a clean humongous, your FO2 dir should look like this:

clean.humongous said:
critter.dat
data/sound/music/<some files here>
fallout2.cfg
fallout2.exe
master.dat
readme.txt
uninst.log

After installing the Expansion, your FO2 dir should look like this:

clean.humongous+exp11 said:
changes.txt
critter.dat
data\<lots of dirs and files here>
ddraw.dll
ddraw.ini
fallout2.cfg
fallout2.exe
master.dat
readme.txt
unins000.dat
unins000.exe
uninst.log
unofficial patch corrections.txt

Right? I'm using the UK CD with the 1.0 version.

Hey for fun i married Miria and when i wanted to kill her i found out she got more than 35 hp...so i got fev questions i dident find any thing in patch or add-on read me...my quess is that theres already build in Miria mod right?

1.Is is bug or Miria got something like 80hp?
2.She now can level like other team members?
3.Any problems with her that should i know about like holding other members from leveling?

Thx for answear in advance :)

And Killap i hope you will get a job in beth so you can make or consultant F3 add-on works great :)

I love the mod, but have come across some bugs. I don't know if these have been mentioned yet though.

Vault City, the farmer in the courtyard who gives you the quest to buy the plow no longer provides you with a reward. He used to give you an assault rifle (i think) and now he says he's giving you the item but it doesnt show in the inventory.

Vault City, the new village area with the molerats. This may be part of the quest. But after the VC security guy says that he's sending a battle group there since you wont do it, no battle group shows up. Waited 2 weeks and nothing.

In Modoc, Rose only offers omlets. All the other dialoge for her menu (brahman fries for example) are missing.

In the EPA. When traveling from the Utility level to any of the first 3 sublevels via the left and right most elevators, the game crashes.
I tried this one about 6 times with each elevator and every time it crashed the game to a black screen and a error window that couldn't be seen as a result. I had to ctrl-alt-delete out to close fallout2.

No, the miria mod is not included. I don't know her hp off the top of my head, but check out Per's guide since I am sure it is mentioned there.

He gives you a desert eagle.

You waited 2 week at the village? Did you try and leave and then reenter?

Odd, never heard that one before. Got a save game you can send me?

This is a known problem that not everyone is having. I am thinking up a workaround for this issue.

Are you by any chance idolized in Modoc? becouse if you are then Rose will always greet you as "hero of modoc" and will serve you a free omlet. Quite nice i have to say, being idolized in other towns doesnt give any advantages.

Question to community any one knows if i can safely install Miria mod atleast some parts of it that will not interfear with add-on?

There are 2 folders with files 1 is Interaction im preaty sure its safe becouse it only is adreased to Miria so i think it will not touch any other aspect of add-on...but i might be wrong :)

But the secound folder Levelup that is more important well the party.txt file it only got add thing Miria will level up...

So i thing problem is with 00000484.pro to 00000490.pro and pro_crit files they prodobly contain diffrent data than add-on...and i dont got idea what those files contain...yes criter data but i dont got any editor to look at it closer....

Any way maybe some modder can answear becouse i dont got idea what im doing :)

00000484.pro,00000485.pro,00000486.pro,00000487.pro,00000488.pro,00000489.pro,00000490.pro and pro_crit i left those files from add-on...

I really appreciate your work Killap and thanks to your mod I've made up my mind to play Fallout 2 one last time. I'm really eager to explore the new/restored locations but I'm afraid that the locations I already know will bore me to death.

So I would like to ask you: what other mods would you suggest to install along your Restoration Mod concerning both technical compatibilty and gameplay compatibilty?

I've done quite a bit of research on this topic, and I think that "New Vision" seems to be the best candidate. As far as I can tell its focus is on retouching the existing locations without changing the gameplay. What's your opinion of this mod?

Now, that were quite a few question - I'm looking forward to read a reply :)
