Hello,

I need help. This is probably the easiest problem for you guys.

I am still stuck in EPA...I can't fix the elevator bug. I tried to look for the fallout2.cfg file but I seem not to have a program that will be able to open it. What application should you use for it?

Also, I do not know where the system folder is? The one with the cache size. I have searched every file in my fallout folder but I couldn't find it.

I have already uninstalled and reinstalled the game (humongous installation), the restoration file, and the patch fixes.

Please please please help me with is. I am a true fallout fan!

Thanks
You can use Notepad to open fallout2.cfg
The cash size is not in a Folder. The system part is just a section in the *.cfg file.
A part of it looks like this:
Code:
[system]
art_cache_size=524
color_cycling=1

@ ArekBalcerzak
You do know that if you play the game and help report bugs, it's easier to find and fix them all. :roll:

cheers

Finally! it worked... thanks.

I got a couple of crashes already but I thought it was just random especially when I'm in combat. I'll report the ones I encounter from now on.

Thanks

Hi all

OK this post is informational.

Running Windows Millennium Edition (build 4.90.3000)
1200 megahertz AMD Athlon XP
640 MB PC2100 RAM

Uninstalled all previous installations of FO2 etc
DELTREE D:\Program files\Blackisle
regclean to remove entries in HKLM/SOFTWARE/Interplay

Installed factory CD FO2 v 1.02d Humongus
Started FO2 to menu screen, then exited, then checked fallout2.cfg
[system]
art_cache_size=311

Deleted patch000.dat

Started FO2 to menu screen, ver was still 1.02, then exited.

Installed newest FO2RP 1.1 (22/02/08) no extras (appearance, etc)
Checked attributes on files and folders in proto folder - files were read-only, folders were not - unchecked and rechecked read-only box in properties for files (just to be sure)
[system]
art_cache_size=311 Unchanged
Found that the ddraw files were the same as the ones already installed, over-wrote them anyway (just to be sure)

Results:
1 exited temple of trials, ran straight to primitive village, kaga plus three other encounters. crash to desktop upon entering village
2 exited TOT, got healed by Hakunin, ran straight to PV, kaga plus three other encounters. crash to desktop upon entering village
3 exited TOT, got healed by Hakunin, talked to elder, ran straight to primitive village, kaga plus three other encounters. crash to desktop upon entering village

Seems to be a trend.

checked fallout2.cfg (just to be sure)
[system]
art_cache_size=311 Unchanged

Checked attributes on files and folders in proto folder Unchanged

BTW, should the .lst files be read-only also ?

This is all for now.
Thank

also try installing the encounter rate fix found on the first page of this thread in killap's first entry. I was also getting some random crashes until I installed this. Make sure you say yes when it asks you if you want to overwrite the existing files.
Hope this helps 'cause this is One GREAT MOD! :D

Here's couple of thing I've noticed so far: After getting the village quest from Stark in Vault City and entering the village and talking to the guy there, Connor I think, there appears a "Error" dialogue option.

Second one is a bit more complicated: I managed to fix the Gecko powerplant somehow without ever going into the building. Basically all I did was going to Gecko and talking to EVERYONE in the map from Harold to Brain, leaving out the powerplant.

Also, I would like to know how I can deal with the Raiders without killing them.

Hey guys,

It seems that my problems just keep getting worse!

I can no longer go into the Shi Temple in San Fran. Upon entering the city and walking over, the game goes to the loading cursor and the screen stays blank except my HUD is still there.

I have also just experienced the issue at the EPA. I went to level 1, took the elevator to the utility level, went to the other elevator and went to level 1 and the same issue happened.

I open the task manager and the game is using 50% CPU (I'm running dual core, so it's 100% on one core) and the memory usage starts jumping up by about 5-20MB a second and does not stop.

My CFG entries are the following
[system]
art_cache_size=261
color_cycling=1

I'm really not too sure what's going on, but I'm pretty much finished, ready to go to the Enclave and it doesn't look like I'll make it.

I also can't remember, but I got the Talking Head random encounter, and I was able to get the stone twice. I don't know if this is from the original game or if the mod changed it.

I did it once, and saved the game. I came back this morning, loaded it up, clicked the head and it went through the whole dialogue.

Mind you the second rock does nothing.

The biggest problem I have is the crashing.... IT's bad

Ok.... awesome.....

Soooooo now the game is fucked. I go to load a save and *BUNK* the screen goes black and a windows error sound happens.

I read about someone changing from read-only to not or whatever. The entire fallout folder, sub-folders and files are all read only. I change the attributes and then check it and it goes back to read-only.

So it looks like I'm completely screwed. Luckily I'm not too upset, I love the game enough to forgive it and re-play the thing over.

My issues started with the EU version. I uninstalled and downloaded an image of the NA version, and my issues continued.

It's seems to have snowballed into a big pile of feces....

I'm going to keep my saves, uninstall, remove all registry entires, re-install and re-play.

I can't wait for the next version of the expansion tho, I REALLY like it :)

Only the proto folder should be RO.

You know, I've never had the Primitive Village crash, and I'm starting to wonder if the crash is related to whether or not you ask Sulik for its location before going, because I always do.

I get the PV crash no matter if i ask Sulik for directions or not.

oh... I guess that's not it then ^_^; Wish I could figure out what I'm doing differently. I usually complete the orphanage quest in the Den before going there so the little bastards will be gone by the time I get back.

to change the subject a little:
it may look i bit of nonsense question but someone know who was the idea of putting the word ''ABRE" as a password in EPA ?

it was killap or someone else?

note: i had this same question on the gameplay thead but no one aswer it in 3 days

and to omegawolf:
see if you dont have some quest items when you enter PV because my game could crash if i had ana's diary when entering the toilet in madoc

@BR4ZIL: Quest items, huh? Vic's radio and the trapper town key come to mind off-hand. I usually have the radio with me because I only do the orphanage quest at the Den before heading off, and I drop the trapper town key after unlocking the door. I'll test these on my next playthrough, unless someone else is closer, or has already done it.

A side question, what should I do to get Renesco's old script back. I rather liked getting all his inventory for nothing, and it made sense. The "discount" he gives you now kinda stinks. I can't think of any expansion quests his script has changed for, so this shouldn't do any harm right? Can I dig his old file off the disk?

as far was i know there is no way to revert this (maybe killap can give a better aswer).

if i remember right renesco shop is in his inventory so just pump your steal skill with falche to "simulate" the effect

if all else fails, well you can send renesco to the big pharmacy in heavens :twisted:

It's in his inventory? I did not know this. heh. If this is true that changes things, since I usually tag and pump up my steal skill anyway. (Yeah I know, but I don't have the patience to keep reloading, and there are lockpicks to help out with the suggested alternative.)

To Killap: I found a bug. In the EPA, when you return at night (this was after I repaired the lights) it is also night time inside the facilities.

...You are a god. Seriously. Absolutely amazing.

Re-started from the beginning.... a few bugs.

I had one crash in combat against some Cannibals. Was using a melee weapon, and had just fought Kaga... might have been my comp.

However, and more importantly... this is with the mod that changes the appearance of your party members when they wear different armor: When you equip the armor, their appearance doesn't change until after you exit the conversation screen. As a result, their weapon resets. I've found that i always need to re-initialize dialogue a second time after equipping new armor to re-equip the weapon. I have no idea if there's an impact on combat control as well.

My guess is that when the character image goes through, there's a reset or something with the rest of the options....

Another possible bug. I've been told before that with the right stats and the sexpert perk, (not kama sutra) you can become a porn star. Well now that the sexpert and gigolo perks have been switched around, the guy only tells me I need more experience.

Okay. Found out some more about this...

When you equip new armor on an npc using the appearance mod: The new armor "look" doesn't appear until after dialogue is ended. For some reason when this happens the equipped weapon un-equipps itself and ends up in the npc's inventory. You need to re-initialize dialogue to re-equip the weapon. No other customizations are affected - custom combat style and such remains the same.

On a funny note - this is the easiest way to get Vic to loose weight :P Just stick him in some combat armor... he looks the same as sulik.

Abbey really needs some work. The dialogue options are too limited and you can't say anything negative / nasty to anyone and you can't decline from doing some of the favors for the monks.

Also, some of the gravestones / crosses are misplaced so that they stand on the graves and float in the air if I dig the grave open. And if I'm not completely wrong it seems you spelled Per's name wrong; Joner --> Jorner. And I didn't get anything for putting a stone into his grave :(

And getting the two new med packs from that monk was way too shocking to me, maybe keeping the other one and replacing the other with doctor's bad or medkit would be better...

That's all I can come up with for now. Oh, one thing.. HOW DO I GET IN THE OTHER ROOM WITH THE MACHINE IN THE LOWEST FLOOR IN THAT MONASTARY??? It's driving me crazy. And sorry if these issues have already been discussed here, but I just couldn't bother to go through the whole thread. Besides from all this, the expansion is awesome. Looking forward to v. 1.2!
