I use windows XP..... Oo

I just read those fixes, and none of them address the problem I'm having. Those have to do with the car dissapearing and showing up when you didn't use it to get there.

The village just CRASHES the game, it has nothing to do with my car dissapearing. Its a pretty nasty crash too. The screen just goes black and freezes. I have to manually shut off the game.

Is anyone else having this problem? I can't finish the Rangers quest because of this problem. I let Sulik's sister out of the cage, then we're supposed to go to the village... I see a really fast view of the village with my character in the middle and CRASH!! Its worse if I just try to go there normally, I don't even get to see it, it just instantly crashes when the game tries to load it.

And no this is not a Win 9x problem, I use Windows XP Professional, fully updated.

So you have been to the Primitive tribe earlier?
It may be the "too many items" bug. Go here and try vad's program to fix corrupted maps.

Nope, I've never been able to load it. The closest I've ever gotten is the map flashing for about 1/20th of a second before crashing, after I free the slaves in the slaver camp and we're all teleported to the village. That's the most I've ever gotten out of the game.

If I try walking or driving to the primitive village, it instantly crashes. It doesn't even look like it even bothers to load the town map... just CRASH black screen and error message. I'll try to get the error message and type it out in here.

Then it's definitly not the "too many items" bug.

What version of Fallout are you using and how did you installed the RP?

Fresh install of F2 says 1.02 on the main menu screen, I bought it from www.gog.com. I used the RP installation program.

I'm using WinXP Pro, fully upgraded.

And sorry, the error message isn't comming up anymore. :(

Is there an error log?

IIRC there was another person using the gog version of Fallout 2 that also had problems with the primitive tribe maps.

I'll see if I can find the post.

Also did you replace the ddraw.ini I told you about in the other thread with the one from the RP?

Remember you need the ddraw.ini that comes with the RP and the ddraw.dll from timeslip latest sfall

EDIT: Sorry, can't find that post I was refering to. Did you downloaded and intalled all the fixes in the first post of this thread?

No... cause I never had any of those problems. I didn't want to invite any other problems. And that file crashes my game. F2 won't even start.

Which file crashes your Fallout?

And you should really install those fixes or you might find problems later in the game

The ddraw files. I tried them both at the same time and one at a time each. No matter what I try, those files crash F2 instantly. It says error loading cities or something.

I just tried ALL the fixes in the first RP post, and nothing helped. The primitive village still instantly crashes when I try to load it.

I talked to GOG and they said their games have no DNR, encription, or tampering with the original content. So... I have no idea why GOG would be the culprit. Are you sure it isn't just a coincidence?

As I said before I remember somebody with the same problem as you posting before but I don't know if they solved it or how

Try downloading and installing the City Limit Patch and see if that helps with the problem

@ Judaeus Apella

Don't get the city limits patch (I have suggested that myself before I knew better). The city limit patch is handled by sfall now, which clearly is not working in your case.

I can't remember what the deal is with GOG. Wasn't it something that it installs Fallout into a GOG folder or something, and also that it comes pre-set to win 9x compatibility mode?

I suggest you try a Manual Installation of Fallout 2 first, then try the RP installer. If that doesn't work try the manual install for the RP as well.

But if that is his problem then fallout should not even start as sfall doesn't allow you to run in compatibility mode.

I suggested the City Limit Patch because that error he's mentioning is related to that and has I said before sfall doesn't let you run in comp. mode

Check on page 80 of this topic.
Basically it says to right-click on your exe file and uncheck compatability mode, which I believe the gog version sets the game to.
Hope this one helps :D

I am having a similar problem with trapper town in klamath. It just goes black and crashes, it says that fallout2.exe failed.

I don't think that's gonna help him. AFAIK he has no problems starting the game, which should not even be possible if the exe is set to compatibility mode as sfall doesn't allow it.

Does this happen every time you try to enter that map? Also what version of Fallout are you using?

It's 1.02 with the non-installer version of restoration project with all the updates installed too.

@ Flick
Non-installer version you say? You did remember to remove patch000.dat (if you had any)?
Anyway, go to your Fallout2\data\proto folder and check that the folders in there have lots of *.pro files and one *lst file in each.

Everything is right, did not have the patch file. This never happened in RP 1.1, if that helps any.
