@ killap

its me again :)
since i managed to get a english copy of the game from a friend of mine i would greatly apporeciate some help....

i am getting really annoyed right now since i had to start the game for about the 7th time now and my problems always occur after the temple of trials so i have to do that damn teple over and over ^^
(well last round was funny i made a "strong&dumb" character and KILLED cameron with my first kick to the groin -.-(damn that must have hurt))

so can we work on a little "how to make it work" tutorial together?
i got help from tomten(thanks to you by the way) already as he gave me this answer:

1. Did you mean "humongous install"?
2. Is it the UK or the US version?
3. What OS are you running?

Try this:

1. Delete everything.
EDIT: Also delete the Interplay/Fallout stuff from the registry (using, for example, "regedit"). Since you had a German version installed previously, maybe there's some strudel left there.
2. Make a MINIMAL FO2 install.
3. Start FO2, and say what it says on the title screen in the lower right corner (should be a version number).
4. Download (yes, again; it's been updated) and install the F2RP 1.2 installer; no optional items (except "missing children").
5. Start FO2, and say what it says on the title screen in the lower right corner (should be a version number).

so please correct me if i get wrong

frist step with nothing of fallout 2 on your computer:
-make a minimum steup of fallout2 1.1mb
"the huge setup always got rigged for me"
-Install the newest version of the FO2Rp
Are the extra parts save?Or could my problem be connected to have sulik wearing a power armor as we entered the primitive tribe
-Start a new game

in how far are other mods compatible
-I tried to use klint the generous for the black hole item could this be my mess up?

Against my usual ways of playing i will restart the game with an edited character for faster gameplay ... i will report any bug i can find here ... i hope i can help you help us with your great mod

thanks

@ Wamphyri

It would really help if you were a bit more precise. You've said something about German/English version and Vista/Xp.

What are you trying now? On XP or Vista? Is the game a US or UK version?
Does Fallout 2 work without the Restoration Project, the English version?
Do not try to use any other Mods before you get the RP mod working.
When playing with the RP Mod installed do not run the game in compatibility mode.
Can you try to be as clear as possible and explain what problems you have. If your problems are not exactly the same for XP/Vista and English/German versions, explain them separately.

cheers

OK more information:

I ran it on vista and it made a lot of errors since (german) vista won't create a "program files" folder but pushes all things intro "programme" yet still it gives errors with a lot of games

so i tried on xp:
the german version made troubles with the text folders so I asked someone for an english version (us) and now it still didn't work with the humongeous setup ..

so i followed the advice and went for the minimum setup and untill now no problems occured.... i can finally visit
-the den
-klamath crash site
-klamath trapper town
-primitive tribe

all those didnt word before
so ill try and get further in the game ^^

wish me luck for i just turned level 4 and still i will challenge the rat god :P

Well, this is my first post ever on these forums... yay :P

Anyways, I believe I've discovered a bug, I haven't read through too much on these forums on rules or whatnot due to time-constraints so please go easy...

When I went to the slaver-camp to rescue Sulik's sister, I used the car. I talked to the guys there and convinced them I was sent by Metzger (name?) and they all got jittery and nervous.

Anyways, I went up to the shed with Sulik's sister and talked to her, then I picked the option to kill every slaver after Sulik gets pissed off.

After killing them all off I went back to his sister (after freeing the other slaves) and told her we could now go and that the slavers were dead.

I was instantly transported back to the Primitive village, which was nice and all, but when I went down to the forest I noticed my car wasn't there. Oh well, it's probably at the slaver's camp is what I thought, but no, it COMPLETELY disappeared.

Unfortunately I have no saves that are right before the quest so I cannot undo it. Well, I hope this is fixed in a later patch (if there is one) and I hope I contributed a little bit atleast. If this has already been mentioned feel free to slap me silly and drop me in a vat.

This is a great patch, man. Gave me a reason to start playing again. My only problem is the fact that I cannot enter the Primitive Tribe location. Some sort of error occurs and I get tossed to the desktop. I'm running the game with only the RP, on Win98. I've played up to Gecko and Vault City, and haven't had problems with anything else.(I've yet to encounter a crash, which happened pretty often before I installed the RP.) Again, awesome work. I didn't think Fallout could get much better, and, as usual, I was wrong. :lol:

Wamphyri => We had the same issue here in france with the Trapper Town map, you can delete the KLAMALL.map from your \data\Maps folder to solve this issue.

This file is installed when you use the .exe version but it's not inside the .rar archive, and i don't know what Killap has modified inside causing this bug.

I don't experience this issue either at the Den nor Klamath crash site and Primitive tribe so i don't know what's going wrong with the german version and thoses maps.

RE: Missing Car,

Check the first page of this thread for fixes you may/may not need, depending upon when you downloaded RPv1.2.

Probably cannot hurt to install them anyway if you are not sure, as you would only be over-writing a correct file with another correct copy.

Possible Bug: I have noticed that when Sulik changes from an SMG to a melee weapon he will not automatically switch back to his gun, i have to go to combat control and tell him to use best weapon. I do not remember this problem being in vanilla FO2.

Also is cassidys new head suposed to have spoken dialog with it, if so he isn't talking for me

@SSgt Curious
The Sulik issue you mentioned is found in the vanilla version too. Not sure if it's fixable, also this is not limited to Sulik if I remember correctly.

That's part of Sulik's/Fallout2 scripts, you can't set sulik to "Ranged" its "Ranged then Melee" so he will naturally switch from smg to melee as is his preference. To Fix: don't put melee weapons on him and the you'll be fine.

Now for my bugs so far using 1.2 (Windows XP, Humong uninstall, all additional features of RP except Glovz Ammo and using Magnus Ammo on top):
#1 Vic permanent Disappearing Bug: I gave the radio to Vic for him to fix, talked to metzger after but did not pay. I returned later from VC to get Car/Kill metzger and Vic was in still in Cell. I sniped all slavers on outside before (kept front door locked to slavers) then I proceeded to snipe+kill metzger and a few others, however since a few slavers remained (aka I couldn't leave combat to unlock door) I had to leave Den (I choose closest exit which was to completely leave the Den) Once I returned and Vic was gone completely.

#2 Car still disappearing in Primitive Tribe: Went to slaver's, got sister -> was transported to PT -> went to the wooded screen twice (car was there first time, wasn't there second time or any subsequent times).

Edit: I downloaded RP recently enough to have same code thats in post fixes but just to be safe i installed that on top and still got the car error.

The car will be there only this one time. You'll have no chance getting it back if you don't use it when you're on the map for the first time. This is also stated in the readme.

Did you check Mom's diner?

When you applied the fixes, did you load a save before returning to the tribe with Sulik's sister? Also if you have the car with you, you MUST use the car once when entering the wooded area. If you don't then you will loose the car forever. This is something I cannot fix. Perhaps I should have just left the car at the slaver's camp like what happened in 1.1.

@Continuum
I like those a lot! Even the one with someone inside. :)

A strange thing: when I entered the Den Residential with my car, the car itself was parked in the West Side of the Den rather than in the Residential.
Yes, there is no exit on the Den Residential map, thus the car appears on the first Den map. Nothing wrong here.

@those with Primitive Tribe crashes and Win98.
It seems that running Win 98 causes the game to crash when entering the Primitive Tribe. Running Windows 2000 and above will will not result in a crash. As for why it is occurring on Win9x, I do not know at this time.

@Pi|t|ek
An original bug in the game. Many encounters have this. I'll make note of it though.

@killap
Instead of having a fix with conditions where the car can be lost. Why not just before the player and possible other companions are transported to the Primitive Tribe that:
1- A check to see if the car is present in the party
2- If present then flag as "parked" at the slver camp

Yes the player would be forced to walk back to get the car, but this would prevent the car from being permanently lost and could be explained away with something like Sulik's sister saying or having floating text "Thank you for respecting my wishes and leaving your car behind, my people are intimidated by technology."

EDIT:
To add and stay consistent along this line of thought, you could also put a check in to see if the player and party members are wearing Power Armor (and variations thereof) and have Sulik's sister ask that the armor be removed. Something like the "put away guns" scenarios that already exist in the game.

That is essentially what happened in 1.1.

Since I got complaints about the car being left behind, I tried to address this in 1.2. In all honesty, I don't always fully understand how the car works in the game. I can manipulate it as I need, but there are some aspects of how the game handles it that I haven't fully grasped yet. I'll try and see what I can do about this.

@killap
Hmmm...I was looking at the problem from the point of view that the player did not understand why the car was missing, rather than just a functional bug. So I thought with some explanatory text, it might help with the illusion of why.

What exactly is causing the problems with the car. How is it different from normal travel with the car?
Is it different because the party and the car is teleported?
If so could this not be solved by bringing Sulik's sister with you as a temporary NPC?

@Darek
A temporary party member is still governed by the players Charisma value so it may get tricky if the player attempts the quest with having max party members already. There were bugs in the game related to this very thing that killap addressed a while back. Maybe he knows of a workaround to allow for going over the max party limit temporarily.

Now that you guys mention it i think i remember this being a problem before(sorry its been probably 6 yrs since i last played)

I am still trying to find out if cassidys new talking head is supposed to have voiced dialog. all he does right now is stare forward and twitch periodicly(same response i have when i have to go to a commander's call)

He could also handle it like the smiley rescue. in wich smiley follows you through the caves but when you get to the end he says he'll meet you there.
