Fallout 2 Restoration Project 1.2 (Unofficial FO2 Expansion)

Please understand that this is Killaps baby, and ultimately what he thinks is best for the Restoration Project will be allowed, and if something, (even if it is beautifully made), doesn’t quite fit in, then sorry it might not make it. Fallout is one of those few brilliant games that modding is a combination of pleasure and pain. I believe that if what you make doesn’t fit in seamlessly within the world of Fallout, (for my contribution that would be purely on a visual basis), then don’t use it, but that doesn’t mean you can’t expand on the artwork within Fallout.

As for the writing and scripting aspects, well I think of it as the glue that holds it all together, if that’s weak then the whole thing falls apart, and that’s why Fallout 1 and 2 are such stand outs in the world of computer gaming, the glue is so strong, and it doesn’t hurt to have such striking visuals. If there is a RP 1.4, or some small expansion of RP 1.3, it will be based on the quality of the material offered to Killap.

Meanwhile….

If you really made that much art... then Restoration + BGE + MR = A hell of allot of new art coming 2010. I cannot wait to see what you came up with (I like your avatar).

Most of the new artwork is tiles, followed by walls, then scenery. There is one or two nice surprises – notice the avatar, hint…hint…

Sounds boss. Looking forward to it... so much so that I find myself checking NMA several times a day. I mean this thread specifically, like they wouldn't put something as momentous as 1.3 on the front page. Oh yeah, and...

To all the people who don't want screens: if they are put out no one will force you to look at them! Please don't ask for the censoring of information for others just because you don't want to know something. Or even worse already know yourself and feel others shouldn't when you aren't the creator! We are all old enough here to make our own informed descisions about spoilers. Thank you.
Jesus, read/lurk moar. Dravean, as writer/proofreader/etc. (AKA one of the guys helping killap; he doesn't work solo anymore), should not be a target of that garbage. On the other hand, I understand wanting a teaser screenshot or something. Console yourself with the knowledge it should be coming out very soon in its entirety. In fact, I think I'll hold my breath. (Ha ha?)

I've never had the chance to speak to you directly, so I just wanted to say that you've done an amazing job. Thanks for putting so much time and effort into this. I love what you've done (even though some of those rugs have been a bit of a headache during beta testing :) )

I just want to clarify things and say that I'm not at all opposed to Killap releasing a teaser screen shot, if he so desires. I just don't think it should be the map that (I, personally) think is the most impressive of the bunch. But like Killap and Pixote said, seeing a screen capture isn't the same as experiencing it in-game.

I've been waiting ages for new artwork, will you release your work in some kind of neat bundle pack, along with some specs like scenery number etc.? I'm asking out of simple curiosity, I do not demand anything mind you.

If you're talking about the EPA, then yeah, I want it to be a surprise too -- no offense to anyone involved, but the EPA of 1.2 was somewhat disappointing and extremely labyrinthine, you know? No, a screencap is not at all the same, but it'd give people an idea what to expect -- even if a totally incorrect one. Personally, I'm content to wait and hope it comes out yesterday.

@ Mr.Ravager69 and the Fallout modding community.

You and any modding group are welcome to use any of the artwork I’ve built for your projects, but on the condition that there is no commercial gain. The reason I say this is because certain unscrupulous companies enjoy stealing peoples work and packaging it with their official releases, filling their pockets with gold and pissing in the eye of the original creator. No names of course….

@ Dravean

Thank you for your kind words. What is the problem with the rugs, the dead critter behind the scenery issue? I hate that; I can rectify the problem if I make them into tiles. PM me so we can work out a happy solution.

Not sure if you noticed (Subbie Mod thread is spam heavy :D) - I made backgrounds for THs:

I did see them there, but forgot about it. Thanks for reminding me. Into the release they go!

I didn't know about FO2 mods until a few weeks ago, reading about the restoration project on another forum. It is amazing! Thanks killap and all who contributed.

I just completed the first game last night and noticed some problems:

1. Some items from EPA seem to have strange barter values. I tried to sell them away in SF, and it resulted in a "your offer is not good enough" message even when the values are matched on both sides. Even after clearing the table or exiting the dialog and restart, I could no longer barter - even if I put money on my side and nothing on vendor, my offer was still not good enough. The only way to fix it is to save, exit and restart the game.

2. I had very few crashes, but when it did, it seemed to involve having Skynet or Goris in my party, and always occurred during combat (SkyNet inside Hobologist's vault, Goris in random encounters). Once I dismissed them, no more crash.

3. On Abbey map, with 9 CHA, 4 party members and a car, if I recharge my car, my character runs to Sulik (first member) and talks to him instead.

4. On Primitive Village map, I can't seem to enable the last quest involving the cave. I rested in the village for a month and the elder still said he has nothing for me to do. How is this quest triggered?

In 2008 december i found out about this mod. Downloaded RP 1.2 and made some progress until Den. Right there i made a decision to wait for RP 1.3 which was coming in 2009 start. Anyways, when it was postponed, i always checked into this forum awaiting for that splendid 1.3. And i am still waiting, patiently, no whining. So, thank you for your long hours of work and i am patiently waiting further.

You shouldn't speak with the village elder, you must speak with the warrior on the far right of the screen. I made the same mistake.

Ooh!

Yes, that's it. So thanks to you, I've saved the world and then a tribal! :D

From what I have understood by reading the posts, killap still is trying to get 1.3 out by this month.

But remember that "trying to get it out by this month" and "Release date is this month" are different things. There is as small nuance difference but its still a difference.

I personally am hoping it will come out this month.

I believe the main hold-up at this point is the sub. We're still waiting on all the pieces of the sub puzzle to come together.

Now that the head honcho has returned, I might bring this to your attention once more, not sure if you saw this or if it was lost in the rabble of useless posts.

I doubt it has been reported so far, but if you extract the pariah dog's brain in the organ extraction room in the sierra army depot, you get a human brain.

Alos, it doesn't count as a kill when you slaughter the dog for organs... that doesn't seem right.
