Fallout 2 Restoration Project 2.1.2b (Unofficial Expansion)

Hey guys i have a problem, i WAS running RP 2.1.2b in my laptop with Windows 7, i installed the game outside of Program Files (i saw the UAC stuff).
So i reached the Arroyo bridge and saved, turned off my laptop...and then the next time i tried to play (like 15 min later XD ) it shows an error message "error initializing video mode 1024x768".
I did only config trough the HighRes (f2_res) because first i used GRAPHIC mode=4 in ddraw.ini and it runned slow as hell, but now the game crashes if i do that...

EDIT: i reinstalled the whole thing (F2 and the RP) and i was able to play again. I closed the game and opened it again and it still worked, but then i turned off my laptop and the next time i tried to play it shows the goddamn message again...

THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR HELP

BTW is there someone traslating the game to Spanish? i could help.

I'm not sure whether or not this is the right place to put this, but does the Miria mod (the one that makes her a helpful npc) work with the newest Restoration mod?

btw happy new years guys!

Here is a Miria Version that is working with 2.12. I dont know whether it will work with 2.2, though.

sorry for bother but i'm not quite sure the actual directions for installing the miria patch.

Do I unzip and copy + replace? Thanks

Wine + fallout

Generally wine runs fallout 1 + 2 well. I played previous RP versions without any problems on Linux. Between versions there could be regressions that could cause issues but for most games there are easy workarounds.

Let me know if you run into any issues. Also, installing with your default prefix environment being set to WinME/XP gets around many issues so you might want to keep that in mind.

Thanks for the help so far.
I tried every suggestion, updated directX 9 libraries etc. But still no luck. The screen just stays black and all i can do is terminate Fallout 2.
Any further ideas?
Regards,
Perks

What about hi-resolution patch?
Forgot to ask, my version is the DVD one from GSP, in the game the version says 1.0.0, but i don't know if its the us or uk version. Is there a way to know?Do i even need to patch it before installing the restoration project?

Edit: ok, seems the 1.0 version is the US one, i just updated to last patch 1.02d but the d doesnt appear? Also installed the hi rez patch but on wine it wont work with directx9.

Edit2: it works with directdraw7 so now how do i install the restoration project? do i install it after the hi-res patch?

I did just that last night, and I graduated to a new problem (which, I suppose, is progress):

"Error initializing video mode 640x480"

I keep Wine virtual desktop, f2res.ini and ddraw.ini files with the same resolution defined, and whether it is 640x480, or 1307xsomething, I get the same error.

Try to set up opengl as default renderer for fallout2 in wine registry and use graphics mode 4 or 5 in ddraw.ini

How do i set the opengl as default renderer?can i do that in winecfg?

help me

im new to this site and i can't install the restoration project i get nearly to the end and i get an error that says this

Error creating registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Fallout 2 Restoration Project_is1

RegCreateKeyEX failed; code 5
Access is denied.

how the fuck do i fix this because i want to play the new mod but i don't understand the problem i'm having

my os is windows vista i believe

see i dont understand the problem it says there is a registry key error when trying to save the uninstall information so would there be a way to skip the saving of uninstall info because until that point there are no hitches but right then its middle finger territory

nevermind

i fixed it through a manual install so everything is cool now but ill keep anything fishy i see posted and if there are any negatives ill keep everyone updated

Can't seem to put the RP to work well. If i install fallout 2 with the oficial patch and the HiRes one it will work well on wine. With the RP it's very slow when actually playing.

Ok after installing the hi res patch in the fallout 2 folder and launch the f2_config.exe i've managed to make it work well.

killap, what is metarule 51?

All usage of it checks if it's equal to 2, except simserum.int which checks if it's equal to 3.

I believe it's METARULE_CRITTER_KILL_TYPE. You can find all the metarules in define.h

And I think this is normally only used in destroy_p

Dammit, I always forget about the header files because Fallout 1 doesn't have them.

Thank you :D

EDIT: And your memory serves. Thanks again

Please modify the WINE section of the RP tech guide with what it took to get it to work for you. Others have reported issues with setting things up on WINE and all we have is this section to point them to: http://falloutmods.wikia.com/wiki/F2RP_Technical_Info#WINE

What did was set the ddraw.dll to native then builtin. Then i installed the f2_res_Config.exe and the dll's in the resolution patch and put them in the fallout 2 rp folder. I set the graphics to directdraw7 and at 1366X768 it seems to work well. I'll try to put it there.

Edit: Just noticed. i've reached klamath and didn't notice any music in both arroyo and in this one. Any ideas?

Change the Fallout configure file (fallout2.CFG) to find the proper music folder - eg:

music_path1=G:\BlackIsle\Fallout2 RP2.1.2b\data\sound\music\

Hey thanks. I managed to make it work by putting:

music_path1=data/sound/music , i'm using wine.
