Fallout 2 Restoration Project 2.1.2b (Unofficial Expansion)

If I may propose something for the next release, the computers/generators/whatever which doesn't take part in any quest at EPA should say "This machine perfectly operational/The low humming of this working generator gives you a fuzzy feeling inside" on any examination or repairing attempt, because having unclear response can be really confusing (I remember having troubles with EPA even though I finished it in an earlier release).

The fact that Sulik has a unique looking APA was surprising, but Josan and X'il busted their balls on that project, and understandably, are over editing 10's of thousands of frames.

Don't you mean Cassidy? Also, except for Navarro and the Enclave I always used to give the APA to one of my followers since I prefer the PA51b look for my own character. Now that the rest of my crew looks so awesome in their custom PAs I have no choice but to wear the stupid APA myself. ;)

Yeah I think Cassidy also has a unique PA look...but I usually play as a solo adventurer, so I haven't seen the boys in power armor for awhile.

City limit patch with P.R.M

I added the City limit patch so I could test a map Im creating based on what Arroyo would be like after the defeat of the enclave, Ill get into that later if anyone is interested read on after. But basically I know the city limit patch only edits the fallout 2.exe file so here is what Im getting.

Error

You're trying to use sfall with an incompatible version of fallout
Was expecting 'Fallout 2 v 1.02 US'

fallout2.exe had an unexpected crc. Expected Oxe1680293 but got

<<<<SPOILERS>>>
Im not really to worried now but if you can help me before i do this that would be awesome. Im just going to do a fresh reinstall of everything. Im of course going to try and salvage my save games, I just barely finished the restoration mod and it was fantastic. I really think fallout 2 could use a bit more tweaks, more towns, and so on theres alot of map and nothing in the middle.. But a little of what i was getting at was I wanted to make the towns into something of what they might be after the enclave is destroyed. All depending upon your endings of course, so you can choose to play till the year cap and then once the year cap hits you should get the choice to once again roam the wastes after a predetermined time you wake up so to speak after a coma or something. maybe advanced rad poisoning so you have no recollection of the new changes. to do quests speak with people and so on. locations will be changed based upon the outside forces like vault city enslaves gecko and so on, then you can either free the slaves disband vault city from gecko's reactor and let the ghouls back into their hometown. and depending if redding is made part of new reno or vault city. The locations will all look different some of the people with change, the main characters wont, except maybe that they've aged some dialogue options will, of course. I don't know thats just what I want to do with the game after you have completed it. just a thought. Oh and another thing if you have Myron in your party after you defeat the enclave you should be able to walk into a bar or something and someone should stab him per say the end game sequence. Or if he isn't in your party and he has been left alive when you return to the stables or wherever you left him after that year time frame he should be gone and in a certain bar, there should be a blood stain with a description resulting around him, and maybe a person you can talk to about to his death maybe even a small quest. just for kicks. I dont like Myron Im just saying I like seeing things out till the very end. I usually wait till Im about to go to the oil tanker tell him to wait then shoot him for the good karma.
Killap and for the rest of the guys who worked on the Project outstanding job it was fun and severely entertaining. Thank you very much

[[ edit ]] I fixed my problem. But I still would like some help with being able to add onto the game with project restoration mod. I had to delete my fallout.exe file, I have a million and one back up files laying around and once I deleted the fallout.exe I had to uninstall the project restoration mod down to bare bones then place a new fallout.exe into the game folder then reinstall the mod [[edit ]].

@ SquishyDeadBody

Why do you need to add the city limits patch, as it's already in the RP?
It's handled by sfall (ddraw.ini). There used to be a line about it in there before but not anymore (I assume the fix is on by default and you have to add a line yourself to turn it off).

So yeah, you shouldn't use the exe-changing patch, except for the Official Mapper if you are using that.

@ Darek

I completely realized my stupidity after I patched it, I was just following the readme instructions without thinking about the fact that the RP has more maps. BIG DUH on my part. I figured out my problem with the fanmade version. My folders are protected in the "Program Files" and require permission to access the maps. Unfortunately this doesn't bring up any specific errors. the program cannot access them without Administrative permission so I had to move the Fallout 2 Directory.

Today after leaving the Den I got a weird random encounter.
It was a Den caravan attacking a vault city caravan. I don't think this should be happening, since the den and vault city are business partners (chems for slaves) ?

@ mandala

A lot of people in the Den are crazy drug addicts, including people who would work in the caravans. This is why they trade for drugs. Caravans don't necessarily trade with each other, and a lot of people in the caravans are probably addicted psychotics and don't care how they get their next fix. Meeting a drug caravan would be like finding treasure! If two such caravans met there might be a fight. The Vault City caravans would likely expect this from time to time and would be better armed. Who won the battle you described?

..hm, Den does not trade the chemicals with Vault City. The New Reno is that business partner, isn't?
Metzger said it, when talking about Vic's radio; also a chem dealer Joey mentioned it, when talking about a Den's church.

I though that the majority of the drugs vault city traded with the Den would end up in new reno, according to that quest Lara gives you?
Also if that is the case wouldn't Metzger be very careful not to harm his trade partners?
I didn't saw who won, I got hit by a lost bullet, almost died from it so I got kinda scared and ran away..

You are right, but the Slavers are business partner with Vault City, not necessarily the whole Den.
That or maybe Metzger decided not to pay for the deal this time... You got lucky to get away alive! :D

Metzger acts as a middle man between Vault City and New Reno, trading chemicals for New Reno's drug operations.

Grayswandir is right, and my previous statement is still true. Regardless of trade agreements, caravans from the Den, or New Reno for that matter, might get greedy if they saw a big caravan from Vault City.

Popping back in again. Big thanks to Darek and others for answering all the questions being asked. I've got several pages of this thread to go through, so I'm not up to speed on what's been happening. Haven't checked the bug wiki in weeks.

I've been extremely busy at work, no modding time at all. I'm still planning on spending a week or so at the end of the month to get the next release out the door. It should be a good New Year's gift to everyone! :)

Stayed tuned.

Big thanks to Darek...
Heh, don't thank me, I've hardly had any time myself to be around.
That reminds me, apparently I'm credited for the RP over at the Beth forums. "Restoration Project 1.2 by Darek of NMA and many others"

I don't have an account (not interested in getting one either), but thought I should mention it in case you or anyone else feels like setting them straight.

Damn, I've slipped away from history that much already? ;) :P I'll have to sort this out.

Staying tuned for the next version. 8-)

BTW - Are you in contact with the translator group, that is right now translating the Restoration Project newer versions into Czech? They use partly RP 1.3 translated files (1.3 has been completely localized into czech if i remember correctly) and use a Notepad ++ to trace all changes and differences. Kinda nice.

Perhaps awhile back I was, though I'm not sure. I really don't have the time anymore to organize translations. All the .msg files are included in the RP, so one just has to go through them all and make the necessary changes.

@everyone
The way things are looking, this upcoming update will be the last one for some time. So, report as many bugs as you can before the end of the year! :D I know Haenlomal will be doing one of his extremely thorough playthroughs (like he did several times with the original game), so inevitably they'll be another big update some time in the future.

Hey there. I played your mod, and it's great! I found few bugs, few things could be added or developed further than they are now. So I decided to write here what is wrong (generaly I mean here bugs), and what could make this mod even better. So, here we go:

[spoiler:fd7fef8b95]
scr00000.png
[/spoiler:fd7fef8b95]
In EPA, level with imprisoned, deformed people. There is vent, where you have "hand icon", but whatever you try doesn't seem to do anything. Is it bugged or I missed something?

I found there also a drill item (which is probably leftover from previous versions of this mod), and doesn't seem to do anything.
Also found "small piece of machinery" item, and this also doesn't seem to be needed anywhere.

[spoiler:fd7fef8b95]
scr00004.png
[/spoiler:fd7fef8b95]
This room, with toxic wastes... I know, that in previous versions of this mod, you could find gas mask somewhere on surface. Now there is no gas mask. Also it seems that this room has no purpose right now...

And now, biggest bug I found (still it's not THAT big bug.)
[spoiler:fd7fef8b95]
scr00005.png
[/spoiler:fd7fef8b95]

Yeah, so at this autodoc, where you can change appearance, there is bugged text.
The lowest choice is "Leave conversation"
Other 3 are for changing appearance (don't remember which one is which).

Now ideas:
After making orphanage in Den, you should be able to do some small quests, like bringing some food for kids, repairing power generator for orphanage or simply giving cash to Mom for starting the bussiness.

In New Reno, when you kill Bishop quietly, you can talk with Mrs. Bishop, that she should start a new life. With high speech she agrees with you, and says that she should probably leave town or says something she should make new menagement in New Reno (don't remember the dialog). But after this conversation, nothing changes (only you get 1000exp):
[spoiler:fd7fef8b95]
scr00003.png
[/spoiler:fd7fef8b95]

So my idea is that after this conversation she should be a new boss of Bishop Family. And she would be "the good guy". So it would open alot of new quest possibilities.

Another Idea:
The talking toaster in EPA says something about how to beat casino machines to win cash. So my idea is that you can tell that to guy in Bishop casino (the one, who can't win there for so many years and lost much cash on this slot machine)...

It's just some ideas...
