Fallout 2 Restoration Project Gameplay Thread

Hmmm.

I'm confused on how to get the Solar Scorcher now.

I know it's in the EPA and you get it from the doctor, or it was last time I read info on it(forgot where it was), but I did all his quests and I didn't get it and he won't talk to me anymore.
To my knowledge you can only get it before the doctor offers you his first quest. So I would reload an earlier save and follow Slowhand's advice.

Let's get more details here. OS version, how you installed the RP, what does the lower right of the main menu in Fallout 2 say?

Sorry for the late reply, I had finals. OS is Windows Vista w/ current service pack. I installed it through the exe's I dled here. On the main menu it says: 1.02.25 RP 1.2

You've installed the latest F2RP 1.2 release, preferably on top of a clean FO2 version w/o any other unapproved mods, right?

yep, yep, and yep.

no matter though...it just kinda...stopped. oddly enough, i looked at the save game before it started happening. and sulik was in mid-stride...in the air, right next to the red grid where you leave the town.

weird.

Definitely. I suggest sending killap a savegame should you encounter the problem again.

Btw i changed my encouter rate in the ddraw file (it didnt have int after it but i assumed it was the one that opened with notepad) And changed it to 1 for both but now i get no encounters. should i take away the (default for mod) note after it? different numebrs for each? HELP!
Often it's merely an issue of a misplaced semi-colon or comment symbol. I'd advise posting the relevant section of your ddraw file on this thread so killap or one of the other pros can take a look at the edits.

As requested:

;Set to 1 to enable Ray's patch to make world map encounter rate independent of your travel speed
;To make the encounter rate decrease, change WorldMapEncounterRate to a number > 30
;To make the encounter rate increase, change WorldMapEncounterRate to a number < 30

i dunno which one to change...

Also i cant become captain of the guard for some reason... i keep doing the ask her a question then exit trick but it aint working any help
(oh i found the stairs cheers :P )

Aye. Thought so.
I be screwed then.
If you haven't had the Guardian of Forever special encounter yet, there may still be a way.
Move RNDFORVR.MAP out from your Data\Maps folder and when you get the special encounter you should find the solar scorcher there as usual. Edit: Doh, should have thought of that. It's not like I've never used f2ie2.

@ Murumasa1

These are the default values for the RP:
Code:
;Set to 1 to enable Ray's patch to make world map encounter rate independent of your travel speed
WorldMapEncounterFix=1
WorldMapEncounterRate=30
What have you changed exactly, and what are you trying to achieve?

None of the above. All lines preceded by a semi-colon are merely comments. You must apply the changes suggested in the comments to the two lines of code immediately following those you've listed, the ones Darek has pointed out in his above posting.

AFAIK, the conditions for attaining Captain of the Guard rank haven't changed in the F2RP. Per's Nearly Ultimate Fallout 2 Guide details the prerequisites as follows:
Per said:
"If Lynette thinks highly enough of you when you deliver the holodisk, she'll make you Captain of the Guard, a position which has several advantages as described in the Vault City section. To pull this off you need CH 8 and getting Lynette's "respect counter" high enough by addressing her as First Citizen at every turn. The easiest way to do this requires Speech 75% and being a citizen (which you obviously are since Westin gave you his disk), and can be done right before giving the disk to Lynette. Say you have a question for her, ask why they don't live in a vault, and then pick the last option to leave dialogue. Do this 10-15 times (or more if necessary) to raise the respect counter before giving her the disk. If you become Captain, you get 2500 xp for the delivery instead of the usual 1500 xp."
You shouldn't have a problem if you've obtained Westin's holodisk and fulfil the above prereqs.

hi, I've been following morticia's guide and it has mentioned something about the NCR rangers offering a quest about the slaver's camp which will let them help you in attacking the camp. my character is a already a ranger but i have not been offered this quest and morticia's guide doesn't say anything more about it. I've already used the ranger map and visited the safehouses but there wasnt much in them. And i never gave vortis (the NCR slaver) the map.

does killing metzger near the start of the game make any difference?

anybody know more?

The number of charges is treated just like ammo in a weapon, hence the non-stacking if they have different charge levels. (Max is 200 for a geiger counter and 150 for a motion sensor, if you're curious.)
Thanks for the additional info regarding the charge levels. That's the first time I've seen it mentioned anywhere.
And the stealth boy has 100 charges.

Uhhh. I'm not sure where this would go but...

The Dogmeat and Marcus armor thing is part of the NPC armor mod, right?

Well do they have their own armors I have to find or something? I don't have Dogmeat yet but I tried getting Marcus to wear some armor but it didn't work, so that's why I ask.

Ok, it isn't just any armor that he can wear. He is a BIG mutant you know. You have to find special armor for him. Explore the new locations in the game. As for dogmeat, armor for him is found in a location from the original game. Again, it is unique to just him.

In v1.1, the Rangers gave you this quest as soon as you killed Vortis and set the slaves free. It was bugged though, so they kept asking you do it even after wiping out the Slaver's Camp, and it never got crossed out in Pip-Boy. This was supposed to be fixed, but I haven't gotten that far yet to see if it was. Sorry.

killap said:
• Cleaned up Ranger code and how they react to the Slaver's camp quest.

Killing Metzger shouldn't have any effect since the camp is still there with slaves needing to be set free, but maybe it does (?)

2. Wipe out the Slaver Camp to the north west, for the Rangers:

When you learn the location from Metzger (speech 61%, and you need to have talked to Sulik first) or one of his slaves after you've freed them, you have the choice of going directly to the slave camp and wipe it out, or go to NCR and tell the Rangers about it. You can persuade the Rangers to assist you if you need some extra help taking care of business. Either way you do it, report back to the Rangers for 800 XP.

The ranger's don't just give you this quest, you need to learn about the camp and then tell them about it first.
Killing Metzger doesn't matter since you can learn the location from one of his slaves.

@Darek & Morticia
thanks for the responses. I went back to the den and fortunately the slaves were still there. I forgot to set them free. So I'm heading back to NCR to get that quest.

Edit: I just got back to NCR but i was still not offered the quest. Anything else I might be missing?

I was going to try to find them myself but I decided to go the lazy route.

Anyone know where Dogmeat and Marcus' armors are?

Phelanpatrick said:
killap said that marcus' armor is in the EPA but has not mentioned dogmeat's except its in one of the original locations.
No, marcus armor is NOT at the EPA.

Marcus's armor is at a location new to the RP (not EPA though). Dogmeat's armor is at an old location. Remember, you must have the NPC with you to obtain the armor for them.
