Fallout 2 Restoration Project Gameplay Thread

Question about Raiders base:

I persuaded "Shadow-Who-Walks" to leave raiders, thus ending their threat, like the RP guide sais - that's 3000 XP.

Now, I didn't sneak out of there, instead I fought them - that's more than 1000 XP more.

And, finally, when I got out - it's 2000 XP for "eliminating the raiders" like it was always the reward for solving this quest.

Is this how it's supposed to happen? Because if you don't bother with "Shadow" you gain 3000 XP less, or is that 2000 XP reward not suppose to happen if you disband the raiders?

That's what I do. Sneak to talk with 'Shadow-Who-Walks' then stay in the cave to battle the Raiders.

You get all that extra XP and loot, but when you talk to Stark or Lynette I think you can only get "I wiped them out" (which I did)

Maybe I am mistaken, but it looks like female characters cannot get the Fannie Mae quest in Redding. Damn! :)

You are not mistaken. IIRC the reason it's not in the guide was that in RP 1.1 you could still use the antidote on Fannie as a female character. It was not supposed to be that way and was fixed for RP 1.2, but the guide never got updated. So thanks for the reminder. :)

Hey Morticia, you've got work to do. :P

How come I didn't get any exp for completing the vault village quest?
How come you didn't give more information?

SPOILERS BELOW

Allright, I took the job from Stark, went to vault village, talked to the guy in grey, I didn't provide them with weapons, instead I went to talk with Mclure, I went back to vault village, got the amulet from the same guy I talked before, I went to gecko and talked with Brain (agreed to stop raiding the caravans), went back to vault city and Mclure said the raids had stopped, went back to vault village and the guy said thanks a lot and bye... no cash, no exp (I understand the cash part 'cause I chose not to provide weapons).

Sorry, I can't remember exactly how that quest goes.
Here's what the RP guide says:
1. Get weapons for Connar to be used at the nearby village.

Connar will tell you to find Joe near Cassidy's bar for help in obtaining the guns. He will send you to Harry to buy them, then you can return with the weapons for 800xp. Talking to Joe will also reveal there is a better way to solve the problem. Joe will refer you to Councilman McClure, and also tell you some ghouls might be behind the problem. If you ask Connar about the rats he will tell you the same thing, and also give you one of the amulets if you want. Talk to McClure and tell him you think you can get rid of the molerats by finding out who controls them.

In the Gecko junkyard, find the hole in the back to the hidden home of the 'Brain' rat. The rat will tell you about optimising the power plant, and you can get him to stop the molerat attacks in exchange for agreeing to fix the powerplant.

If you solve the problem without ever buying the weapons, then Connar lets you keep the $10,000, and you can't get the 800xp.
As far as I can see you only get xp if you deliver the guns. But didn't you get the cash instead? I mean you don't get $10,000 added, you get to keep the money you already got earlier.

I didn't get the cash at all because I never agreed to buy any weapons, first time I talked to Connor I said there might be a better way to solve this. (I didn't know about the 10 000 prize at the time I answered that...) Seems that I just did it all wrong and missed both, the xp and the cash. xF

I have a problem I've run into. I did the quest to deal with the Raider base, but when I go back to Lynette with the proof of Bishop's involvement and she gives me the Westin quest.... she doesn't give me the holodisk for the quest. Found this out the hard way a few hours later when I tried to complete it, went back to an old save to make sure she had actually given me an item, and sure enough I had just never received it. Is this a known issue? Any help?

@Liebestod,

I don't think Lynette gives you that holodisk. You find it in Bishop's safe, then she tells you to take it to Westin.

Ah, thanks, I did have that one stashed away... it's somewhat misleading for the quest text to say "deliver Lynette's Holodisk..." in that case. =\

How exactly do you open the Hubologist Stash safes? Neither a lockpick skill of 100% nor plastic explosives have managed to do anything to their locks.

You need over 100% lockpick skill to open them.
101% will give you 1% chance.
An electronic lockpick will give you +20% chance and a MkII +40%.
Regular lockpick sets don't do anything here.

Interesting. Does the luck trait modify this any? I'm certain I didn't have any trouble opening those safes and my lockpick skill wasn't more than 90% I might have had an electronic lockpick, but I didn't 'use' it on them. :? The game won't use items automatically just because they are in inventory, or does it?

{also, it might have been version 1.1 that I opened them.}

Well, either something has been changed or your memory is a bit clouded. You can't now anyway.
Luck don't seem to change anything, I can't see it in the script or from testing in-game. The game will use items from your inventory if it's written into the script (toolbox when fixing Abbey water pump iirc), but that's not the case here, you need to actively use the electronic lockpick on the safes to get the bonus skill %.

One more thing concerning the Hub stash, in the RP Guide it says that if you kill the guard outside you can't get in. When I have tried that now, the guards inside run and open the door to join in the fight, every time. Also, sometimes Marcus runs inside prior to that, ignoring that the door is locked shut, he just runs right through it.
I do remember reading about people not being able to get in but I don't know how to make it happen.

I just had the Kaga encounter where he's in metal armor. I shot him in the head, knocking him out, and ended combat. He instantly got up and ran away. I saved the game, thinking I had beaten him.

Now when I try to go to the red world map area the game crashes every time. What is the problem and how can I fix it?

It's happened to me before, just after Arroyo at the first Kaga encounter when I knocked him out with a spear. All I could do to prevent crashing was reload. The thing is, I've been saving in one slot all day today, loading another slot means I have to do Vault City and Gecko all over again and I don't think I have it in me.

Maybe there's a way to teleport the party back to Vault City (the encounter was near Vault City) or something.

Not sure if this is the right thread, but here goes anyway:

Of all my party members, Lenny appears to not 'display' him wearing armour like the other party members do (I know its another mod included in RP, just wanted to know if its normal)

Also, is there a way to get anything over 'liked' in Redding? I've solved all their quests and this is all I get (Except for mae, as im playing a female character and I can't saver her as such)
