Fallout 2 Restoration Project Gameplay Thread

Backup your ddraw.ini and f2_res.ini files after fresh RP install. There are all the sfall and hi-res patch settings stored, so you don't need to reinstall everything if something unexpected will happen.

The problem is that even if I do a fresh RP install the error still occurs...
And yes rebooting was the first thing I tried!

Is there any way to refuse Torr's request to protect the Brahmin, and then accept the quest later, or is it impossible to get that quest later? Seems like in the past when I had talked to Torr and turned down his request to help, he just wouldn't talk to me afterward. (Note: I haven't tested out saying "no" to him in the RP, as I'm always afraid I'll lose the quest.)

Using a fresh install and new savegame, or using the old savegame?

Once you tell him you can't help him, you will not be able to talk to him again. But you don't have to help him right away, accept and then you can help later if you so choose.

Does pushing an ally during combat cost them action points? I can push Sulik during combat, which might open up certain strategies / exploits (i.e., push an ally closer to the enemy so they don't have to use action points to get in range). I assume the push ability is necessary even in combat, in case your allies pin you in somehow. But if it's an exploit, it seems like some kind of fix is needed, like only being able to push them if they're right next to you.

Okay; I found the right dialog path. Thanks.

Does anyone know where Jules lives? Does he have a wife, children, or does he live alone?
Does he just stand on that street corner 24/7 because his place burned down completely, and he now lives in the middle of the street?

Also, who is his drug supplier and why does he never sleep?

He is married to his jet.

Found out that he has no supplier because once you buy everything from him, he's dry. Yet for some reason, he still keeps standing on that street forever.

He's selling informations. 100 bucks for a few words, that's not bad in a wasteland. It's definitely worth of staying there all the day. (Still I suspect Jules is watching the Cat's Paw personnel through the windows, if you ask me.)

Further testing reveals that pushing an ally costs them an AP in their next turn for every space you push them. I can push Sulik 8 spaces, after which I can't push him, and on his turn he just stands there (having used up his AP, apparently). Then if I leave him alone on my next turn, he subsequently moves and attacks as normal. So if you're counting on your allies to have all their action points for a crucial part of a battle, don't push them around! If you want to prevent them from doing something, though - say, firing a spray from that Uzi into your back again - then a little pushing will serve as sufficient deterrent.

I am having a problem with Nirran's Privqte Dobbs NPC mod. After I recruit him, if I have him wait when I come back he always says I have too many followers even if I have no one else with me. I even left the rest in New Reno and took Dobbs to another map.
I have FRP 2.1.2b with sfall 2.17b and Nirrans skill books, lootable armor, custom perks and Miria mods.
This runs on a 64bit windows 7 system.
If this is the wrong place to post this I apologize, but it seemed to be the most likely place for it.

Why?

1) In NCR I was wearing the power armor I obtained from Navarro when unexpectedly the NCR police began shooting at me, claiming that I was carrying a weapon when I was not & neither were any of my gang. There was no way I could avoid the encounter, & the final result was the police were totally wiped out, Tandi was killed by one of my group after calling me "Brahmin shit" & now of course I am Vilified there (though Idolized most everywhere else).

2) I have twice met roobbers using high tech weaponry in encounters in a cave & both times the save file became corrupted during my saves & I had to erase the save file & restart from an earlier save.

Frustrating.

Solved my Dobbs problem.
After telling him to wait you need to go to another map, then go back to the map you left him on, before getting him back.

Killap, have you changed Mentats in the latest release? I've become permanently addicted to Mentats. I've rested for 3 months and nothing, still addicted. I thought only Jet addiction wouldn't pass after some time.

Yeah, this is nothing that has been changed. It's an engine bug that we can't fix. Basically what happens when you get addicted is it gets added to a timer event que (so the game knows when to remove the addiction). In your case that never happened, or the timer event que somehow got cleared before it was time to stop the addiction.

You are not really addicted though, as you don't suffer any drawbacks from it. Just that annoying addicted tab. On the plus side, you can use however many mentats you want without getting addicted.

You can fix your save with F2se, but I won't bother with the details until I know you are interested.

Minor dumb question: Isn't Kaga supposed to first show up on the way to Klamath? I got to Klamath without any encounters, and now I'm getting regular non-special encounters, so I'm hoping I didn't break something.

Edit: Aaaand I just met him not two minutes after posting that. Ironically enough, on the line right between Klamath and Arroyo.

Oddly enough, he ran away after hitting him once despite having an order of magnitude more health than me, and then some. Must be the sort of guy who has a panic attack after breaking a fingernail.

It's also a little weird that nobody in Arroyo mentions this guy, not even if I go back after seeing him. Wouldn't it make sense to ask the Elder about this guy going around talking about how he should have been the chosen one?
