Fallout 3 interview on Eurogamer

I think they should at least take the original concept into mind, and give a TB option (shouldn't be difficult to simply pause the entire world while the PC takes their turn), and also not break the traditional canon (super mutant look should be the same, or they should just NOT USE super mutants.. No Super Mutants. No Brotherhood.. sounds good to me).

Basically they are being anal about a couple of things they could easily fix / implement into their game. Things which would make a lot of the traditional Fallout fans a lot less grumpy. If I was them I would definitely take this into consideration. Bad word of mouth can seriously hurt how well a game is going to sell.

Especially if we happened to buy the game, and then return it claiming that it had rape, child killing, etc.. in it.

... Not that we would do that... 8-)

Some of you guys are overly harsh.
Lay off the developers, will ya? The game is more than a year away from release and you guys are already trolling on them and assuming that Fallout 3 will suck. I'm sorry, do you know something the rest of us don't? Have you seen a sneak-preview of the finished game? No? Then STFU about how the game is going to suck! Honestly, you people give the rest of the Fallout fan base a bad name.

If they get it wrong, then they get it wrong. Untill then, be constructive and hope for the best. If you hope for the worst and assume that it will suck, guess what: It will suck because NOTHING anyone can do will be good enough for you.

I personally thought it was a good interview, lotsa new stuff, some worrying, som interesting.

I'm pretty sure Beth is trying to make a game that they think a lot of people is going to like and buy, and I'm pretty sure they're right, the way the game seems to be unfolding and work seems to be pretty cool, and actually quite unique.

However, I don't think they're trying to make a FO3 for the fans that loved everything about FO1 and FO2 and they're being quite honest about that, I think. I hate that because FO was the only RPG I liked and I'm not particularly fond of FPS view.

I'm not in the boat with people saying that this game will be crap, it will be great and sell a lot of copies, it just won't be the FO3 that true fans were expecting, which I find immensely dissapointing. The game is not what I wanted to play, it's not what I was waiting 10 years for and in all honesty I'm not sure I will play it.

But if you think of the game as just another game, and remove the FO3 name that we all have a very special feeling for, wouldn't you agree that the game has mass-appeal?

I might try it out when it gets out, but right now I put my faith in FMF, that shit looks sweet :)

Troll #57891, we already heard this.

Yes, we did.

Countless times.

Do we care?

No.

Why? Because none of you trolls can come with a real reason why we should just sit and wait. All you can babble is "lolol its nut finished yetz!"
Do you understand that hardly matters? We have what we need to know this game will suck as a Fallout game. Yes, one thing alone missing, like iso-metric view makes it suck, but as you can see with your own eyes (if you can see and get that in your little head) that's far from being the only problem.

It will suck because NOTHING anyone can do will be good enough for you.

Remove Bethesda's cock from your mouth when speaking, please.

it will be great and sell a lot of copies

wouldn't you agree that the game has mass-appeal?

How are you sure it's gonna be so great? I sure wouldn't judge it as a good or bad game because I don't care, as I said numerous times, and it sure is much more difficult to judge that without playing it, then to judge if it's a good or a bad Fallout game.

Also, what does it matter if it has mass-appeal and sells lots of copies? Does that make it a good game?
Given the history of the entertainment industry, and especially the video games industry I'd say the contrary.

Mass market means simplification. Mass market is not art.
Mass market sucks.

The way I see it, it's someone else who's trolling. We give the fan base a bad name? Fine, you don't need to post around us loony fanatics. Now git.

Care to clarify/develop that idea?

Yes, well, believe it or not, most people here think the exact same thing.

Yep. The only beef is the "Fallout" name to what *so far* doesn't look, much like a Fallout game.

Oh, yeah, that's right, because the tons of previews give us absolutely no information about the direction they're taking the game in. You know, we don't know that it's going to be a first-person shooter with a retarded real-time with pause combat system at all. No sirree.

definitely. I mean it displays the new wonders of Bloom 57338663 ! Shiny!

Jokes aside, I think it can be a very good shooter with rpg elements, on the vein of S.t.a.l.k.e.r if done right and if the VATS thing be optional.(and if they remove stupid shit like the nuclear catapult).

The "horrible" thing about it is indeed, being called Fallout:3. I mean, sure I can make a Barbie Horse Adventures game and call it Half-Life 3 , but would fans of the series eat it?

They could also make it an official spin-off. That would be acceptable...

Oh, I'm sure most of you feel that way, I just think a few people here seems to think the game will suck and flop, which I'm pretty sure it won't, it's just not FO3, it's FO:RT. I agree it's more of a spinoff, but if a real FO3 was in dev, like van buren and beth made this, I would consider it a cool spinoff, as it is now, I think it's kinda sad that this is what will carry on the legacy.

I'm too lazy to find exact quotes, but I'm pretty sure that every time anyone at beth has given an interview, they've just said they want to make what they think is a great game with what they know best, which in my eyes means they just want to make good game, sell a lot of copies, get a lot of praise, which I'm sure they will. It just won't be FO3 to the harcore fans, sadly.

EDIT: Appearently I spell like horseshit this evening, so forgive me my spelling errors :)

This pissed me most. This really made me pissed! I really hope and pray for commercial failure to you Bethyshitty! And if you had balls and cock I would tell you to suck them! I knew that something like this was coming, but fuck! I never thought they could be so fucking bitches!

Good. So now, go and kill'em, burn'em or worse. Why, when it comes to a very important disscusion like this, must such words be heard? Coz they're responsible for all wars (although some say, it's jews) and other bad stuff?

They are doing horrible things to Fallout title, i think, but voices like this won't change anything. Go kill some riders in F1 or F2... it's good for nerves.

Edit: Sorry, i see now that, someone has taken an eye on this post, thx

I was waiting for more people to comment on that. I think Intoxicate should sue.

Well that would give them some more money for development ;)
Cmon so me and 2 other people comment on this? Cmon that was a huge mistake? Laugh at the magazine editor!!!

Eurogamer: Do you feel like you owe Interplay anything?

:o I like this question (not answer to this, though), didn't expect such as this one at all ever, anyplace, anytime. If i were one of Bethesda's developers, i would have been afraid of such one as hell. Shame, they don't :|

It's the "we don't feel we owe the original designers anything." That is arrogant and insulting. They should feel honoured and privileged that Tim Cain, Leonard Boyarsky, Jason D. Anderson, Christopher Taylor, Jason Taylor, Scott Campbell made this awesome franchise and that they now have an opportunity to make a sequel to it. This, coupled with the stupidity of some gaming press in going "you made this" when Bethesda didn't create anything so far and Bethesda turning away Leonard Boyarsky, is just smack-in-your-face God complex/heavy case of narcissism.

The whole industry (CRPG) owns to Fallout when people were saying CRPG is dead back in 1997. Someone isn't paying attention in history class.

First I'd like to say: Hi! :)

I was fairly disappointed when I first found out VB was toast after seeing the screenies and so on. I thought it looked cool and had potential.

I'm disappointed that the game Bethesda is working on is not going to be isometric. I'm disappointed also to find out the combat system will not be like the first 2. I'm somewhat disappointed in the apparent laissez faire attitude towards Fallout history and the fans that seems to come from this article, but I keep in mind that the written word does not convey the emotions and other subtle ques that the spoken and observed word does.

After reading the previews however I think it looks cool and has potential. Will they pull it off? I hope so. I'm excited about it, but I have to admit I'm a little skeptical at the moment. All this talk of Fallout 3 has inspired me to dust off my copy of F2 and play it once again. What a fantastic game! How do make something better than a classic? You have to make another classic.

F3 will certainly be innovative compared to the first 2, but as others have pointed out, is it truly a successor if its core gameplay, layout, and combat systems are so significantly changed? Will this really be a Fallout game and not another spin off?

Time will tell I s'pose.

I'm not sure what you mean there, buddy. Do you mean it'll be significantly different from the first 2, or that it'll be more innovative in its time than those 2 were?

Significantly different than the first 2 :)

Ultimately I guess that will determine if F3 goes on to be great game, or one that sucks. Will these differences move the franchise forward and bring it to new heights? Or cause its demise as it goes crashing down to the depths of mediocrity?

No way to tell right now, it's shaping up good on one side and bad on the other.

Other attempts at reforming Fallout into new heights have come crashing down, tho'. We'll have to wait and see.

(In the voice of Gizmo) So....hypothetically speaking (typing?) Bethesda wouldn't be able to complete Fallout 3 if say...something destroyed their production studio...say a megaton Nuke :o

Don't troll, Wiggum. I'm warning you.
Whoops, sorry, I lost my selfcontrol momentually. I was pretty pissed already, and now this.

I wonder when they try to explain why did Emil said so. Atleast they made clear that they don't give rat's ass about Fallout fans. Although I never expected that they would...
