Fallout 3 pirated, videos spread

Geee wheeez...

There goes my glimmer of a hope of seeing a half-decent RPG game from the so-called sequel...

Crap AI, crap dialogue, crap animations...
Oblivion all over again!

And people said console game is not easy to get pirated.

Ha! In their face now!

Console games this day are as easy to get pirated as PC due to share of common medium - compact disc and similar electronic parts. Game publisher's decision to focus on console will get themselves bury by a pile of E.T game catriage soon.

Took a quick gander at the video and all I saw is Oblivion with Fallout skin cover on it.

Maybe you should read the thread before making a redundant statement that holds no water.

Ok, I saw the bit with the tunnel snakes. One of the options was "Maybe I can help. She's very sensitive about her weight..."

That's more like it.

I'm not really surprised that this got leaked. It seems that it's become the inevitable result of overhyping a game these days. Though yeah, I do find it hilarious that the 360 version's the one that got pirated and not a PC copy.

As for the video footage and what it shows. Eh, not really surprising actually. I expected much worse. I'll still probably buy it, but in that regard the only thing that I'm waiting for before I make any decisions is info on a Construction Set. It's the only saving grace left in the TES games any more and it's the only reason I'd buy F3 at this point.

Now I knew that there was going to be alot of work for modders to fix this game once it came out (pending the release of a CS) but wow, this just made the job look a bit bigger. I get the feeling this'll be the first time Bethesda sees "fixed dialog and storyline" mods being released.

As the radio's looking crappy, I'm wondering how hard it'll be to import your own playlists into the game? Maybe slip some Megadeath in the radio playlist file eh?^^

Now I said my expectations were initially low, but one thing has me really dissapointed. Did anyone notice the Overseer's chair? It's a round desk! They could have at least kept the damned podium/desk from every other damned Fallout game.

That and I was also pissed that they didn't fix the audio problem from Oblivion. The one where the volume levels varried depending on which way you were looking. In theory it'd be a cool way to do 3d sound right? But Bethesda fucked it up and so about 1/2 the time you can't hear the audio clearly unless you look away from the speaker (ie turning your ear in their direction). The audio at the b-day party proves that part of the game is still crap.

Outbreak's Short Sighted Mini Review: (from videos of course)

Visuals (art): 8
Animations: 4 (7 when using VATS)
Voice Acting: 7-8 (it looks much worse due to the nearly complete lack of visual emotion/animation. It's otherwise around B movie quality.)
3rd Person: 4
1st Person: 7
Camera (general): 3
A.I.: ???
Gaming Elements (things to do): 8

Haha...the Sheriff does seem like an animitronic character straight out of Chucky Cheese!

Yep...all I can think is that Beth has a great art department, and as soon as it hits the gameplay department (animations, A.I., pathfinding) they still think 10 year old 3D RPGs are the standard. THOSE are the guys that need to be fired, and fast. That is the single most part of it that's absolutely pathetic. Bleh...

I agree with the previous poster by the way in the fact that overhyping is probably part of what lead to this incident.

I don't understand. How do things like this get leaked? Does a person have to actually physically take a copy home or does someone hack into Bethesda's computers remotely?

Hopefully they're not stupid enough to have a computer connected to the internet with the copy of the game on it.

Anyways, watching the videos....one thing I'm disappointed in is the facial expression. It's just....there is no expression. Facial expression made Bloodlines characters really interesting, like Jack. But in this game, wow. Nothing at all. Combat and the rest of the game though, it looks interesting and it's the same as what I saw and experienced at PAX.

I don't think it's the voice acting that's horrible. I think the voice acting is great but there's just no facial expression so it seems like crap. I mean, if you look at the video about the guy and the radroaches, just look at the guy talk.

The actors are like Zac Efron. A bit dead around the eyes :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZgXg_7kVI8

I see you lose no karma for killing the overseer

maybe its because the word never gets out of the vault that you have killed the "Vault 101's Overseer."

I think in this game the Karma system works if people see you or not. Karma is like your conscience.

someone said about it, apparently it was a developer's nephew or something.

but, even if the voice acts are good, the way they made the facial expressions kinda sacrifices the entire thing.

btw anyone knows about the level of difficulty of combats?

Exactly. BAD voice acting is like old Resident Evil games or Silent Hill 3. This is actually pretty good, but as you said, the animations are just junk in general. If you could actually see someone acting out the same emotion/attitude in the audio, it'd be fine or at least cheesy enough to be entertaining.

As for your question about how stuff gets leaked; you could be one of the designers, make a copy of a disc, take it home and then load it online. You could also be one of the production factory guys and tuck a disc under your shirt. As Arash just said, you could be a friend of a friend or a relative of someone who has a copy. As I said before, these companies are so big now, you can't keep track of everyone.

not "everyone" in the company should troll around with a copy of the game dont you agree?

Sure I agree, but who knows what it's really like in these places. (unless someone's a designer themselves) Something supposedly secure could be sitting right out in the open, like "durrr." :P Maybe it was the guy who makes coffee???

Not sure if it's true or not, but the .nfo file for the bit-torrent xbox360 copy says it's a Review Copy.

If that's the case then I imagine someone at a European magazine is either already fired, or on their way to becoming fired.

I guess I'm a little let down by the video. I enjoyed Oblivion, but can recognize the flaws in animation and other aspects of that game. I'm let down even more by the fact that these problems appear to not have been fixed.

Which is sad since they have been working on the same engine.

This is like big time conspiracy theory, but when those first couple of game reviews came out before gold was announced; it almost made me wonder if THEY had pirated copies.

doesn't matter, it wont justify the sorry sequel Bethesda has made.

unless the Review Copy isnt the full game or the "release version" at all.

I said nothing about justification. I'm just stating the fact that if a magazine reviewer was the leaker, they won't be employed for much longer.

The atsmosphere and lighting are pretty neat. Shame about the shadows thing but we already knew that.
Having recently played Oblivion the voice acting is so much better, then again the animations are as well, so they're average rather than rubbish (at least the walk cycle is no longer a feminine swaying hip walk).
Combat looks hard without vats but it is hard to tell as the player does not have a good grasp of... the game really, though it is probably easier to aim with a mouse and keyboard.
Would probably be more critical of this game if it didn't have a riot helmet, I'm a sucker for those things.

I'm not really surprised, but Bethesda's initial reaction is the same as it's been for any issue.

Any thread on their forum that even mentions the leak as an off hand remark gets locked. And I'm pretty sure deleted too since there were alot more locked threads on there this morning.

I posted a thread over there asking for them to post the rules regarding talking about it so we knew what not to mention. The response was pretty quick. It got locked and the mod answered "nope".

It would be interesting to see any statistics covering cancelled preorders the coming week. If that is possible to track.

Also, I would like to kill Butch for his jacket.

These videos put me back on the fence whether to buy it or not.
It's definetly not Fallout, but could be interesting to at least try it. Mods anyone?
(Probably a tad difficult to mod out shitty design, though )

The voice acting really was terrible.

It doesn't have a lot of effect on the base game, but in reference to whether to buy or not, this really could be a review copy and not an actual gold copy. Again, I don't know how much that would really change, but who knows.

Yeah, and it would be interesting about the pre-orders. I was wondering that myself.

As for Beth locking up their forum, I guess I understand. They just don't want to even worry/deal with it.
