Fallout 3 pirated, videos spread

2: Creating a character during the intro then fine tuning him at the end so if you want to play a fresh character you can without going through all the plot important bullshit you've seen before yet still starting out fresh.

I can't believe giving the player the option to SKIP the intro when he wants to make a new character is an actual complaint!

HELLO! You can't skip it. Do you understand?
Loading a save does not mean skipping. And this is what I'm saying... they could've just made the whole think skippable and not have you keep a save game just in case you want to start over.

Also, the beginning parts of Fallout 1 and 2 are really short compared to this. And less boring. And less stupid. And umm... in Fallout 1 it's just a fucking cave from which you can run out in a minute or so.

Well, the Vault in FO3 is more than just a tutorial, though. At least from Dad's escape on, it does have some story development. But they could make it possible to skip to that instead of to the actual Vault exit.

VTM:Bloodlines let you skip the tutorial. If you ran through you got 2 extra character points. The temple of trials was a terrible decision and what I think most people expect is to have that tutorial section be skipped. Nwn1 and 2 did it as well. Most people won't skip it on their first play through, but after that it can become annoying if you want to play though again and again.

And just to put an emphasis on how bad the temple of trials was: whenever I try to get someone new to play fallout 2 they either complain like mad during it or simply stop playing. I have to plead with them to just get through it and they will enjoy the rest of the game. They usually suffer through it for me and after that, fall in love with the game.

Well, this is lame. I wasn't ecstatic when I saw the preview movies and clips but now, seeing as the game has been pirated, my expectations for the gaming industry- as regards DRM- are totally in the crapper.

Sure, my kneejerk response was, "Haha! Those evil sons of bitches got pirated! POETIC JUSTICE!", but then after taking a moment to reflect, it began to sink in. The little punks who did this just fucked the rest of us.

Royally.

Forget, for just a moment, that FINO3 was pirated off of the 360 version. This little episode will be all any company needs to justify even MORE invasive DRM on every single future title- regardless of platform. Now something that wasn't exactly the norm before is definitely going to become the standard in the industry- if only as a useless, punitive, object lesson. Sad truth is most of the bastards who crack these games WILL find a way around DRM. It isn't going to hurt them at all. Normal users, on the other hand...

I may have little use for Howard and co., but people who pirate anything- be it literature, music, software etc... they are nothing but wastes of skin. They don't think, they never take the time to look at the repercussions of their actions beyond themselves, and even then- they don't give a shit.

Normally, I'd like to *think* that I'm a "live and let live" type of person. However, every time I hear of something like this, I can't help but hope that these imbeciles will be rounded up and removed from the gene pool.

Goddamnit!

/Takes a deep breath and counts to ten...

/sigh...

There, all better. Have I mentioned how much I hate these fucking people?

its funny, in bethesda forums i dont see any news about this.

There is. And the thread got closed for now (may stay closed). Some idiots turned the thread to "but if I play the game and then pirate it will it be breaking the law" etc etc

As some have probably noticed, I'm another one of those 'wait and see' guys, but I never had blinders on. It's true, you SHOULD wait and see until the game is finished, but that doesn't mean when you do it isn't going to turn out badly. I have yet to see any of these videos as I just got up to see this only a few minutes ago. From what most are saying though, it almost sounds as though Karma just punched Beth in the nose. After so much hype, etc. etc. if they have yet to even correct simple problems that plagued Oblivion, then they deserve to get bad press in this regard. As always, I feel bad for any designer who did his best to make this game work, but it sounds as though the rest, such as management, did THEIR best to make sure "the best" wasn't what happened. For such lack of regard, those responsible deserve to get a few kicks to the head. You don't put this much time and money into something and wind up with the same BS you started with.

That being said, anything I was worried about in FO3 seems to be the thing that failed. Most of us already new the animations would be poor, and the voices could go either way, but the confirmed A.I. issues (which actually seems to be the real big problem) isn't really a surprise. It's just disappointing.

I do feel bad for Beth though, despite their failures as a company, and I agree with Iozeph about this causing more problems than just affecting FO3. I don't wish this on anyone, (except maybe a band of criminals) and especially not within 24 hours of release. I agree with whoever said it; that a**hole needs to go to jail. I don't give a sh*t what he/she was pirating. That person didn't give a f*ck about anyone. Yes, and an image of a crying Todd is very depressing. As also stated, the one positive might be that this wakes Beth the frak up for multiple reasons.

(sigh) What a world. :hide:

So torn, since I am going to play the game regardless. I stopped reading the videos and started reading about reactions ect here, now I stopped. Want to see, but feel like it is ruining stuff. I almost want to download the youtube videos to my comp and decide if I want to watch them later.

Ok i guess this image needs an update.

I didn't know Tod sits in a lousy cubicle... pretty bad for an "executive"

he also seem to have the same shitty 3com phone system we do.

yes, I'd like to stress this one again. I'm glad a lot of people will get an honest look at Fallout 3, but it's f'd up that so many will steal this game, even before release. I may disagree with Bethesda on a lot of things, but this is their creative product, and I wouldn't wish seeing that stolen on anyone.

EDIT: this is the last warning, guys:

DO NOT LINK TO VIDEOS FROM THE PIRATED FALLOUT 3 COPIES.. I have vatted two links now without banning but I'm not going to let this slip any longer, the next person to link the a pirated video will be banned.

Ya was thinking the same, and was thinking of the gigantic lawsuit of anyone caught with this. I know activitsion recently caught 10 to 15 people and fined them the minimum of 100,000. And Bethesda probably will take it further.

PS: I do have to point out the irony of this being pirated on Xbox360, considering all the talk of PC having the big pirating problem.

Eh, I think you're overstating the situation. It takes a bajillion times more effort to pirate 360 games, and doing so usually renders your box unplayable over Live, which is at least half of the reason you get one in the first place. The (eventual) PC version leak will harm BS a lot more than this (unless, as you suggested, negative word of mouth gains momentum).

@Humpsalot: I've already followed the previews, etc. so closely, I'm kind of beyond worrying about spoilers, but like Pope mentioned, if it's really THAT poor, it shouldn't take you long to figure out if you'll like it or not as a whole. I might take a look and decide it's personally OK for me. Who knows.

That being said, I understand though, and I won't tell you what to do since this is such a sh*tty situation anyway.

Amen. :salute:

Well I don't condone piracy, whatever the game is, whoever the company is. It's stealing someone's creation, it should be tackled harder these days, and not letting it go so easily. I mean, you can easily see how many games are pirated, and yet everyone gets away with it. Bar maybe one person or two, who the authorities believe they can make an example of and threaten the other pirates (which does not work btw).

Just so you know, you are still linking to the videos yourself in the news post ;)

I just mentioned to someone in a PM that I think part of the problem is that these game companies (like most companies nowadays) are just too big. There are so many openings for someone to take advantage, it's really bad. As my friend said, it could have happened anywhere from the office to the production factory. Just like technology, it eventually gets so advanced that you can no longer control it with any real efficiency. I don't know what they can do to get this back under control.

Yes. And I specifically say in that very news post that it is an exception and not an encouragement for others to follow suit.

Overstating? I said it was ironic, not the ultimate victory of PC over Xbox 360.

And I don't know if this will spur negative word of mouth or if people are deep enough in hype to go into total denial, as with Oblivion. I've always been a more neutral party on Oblivion, and someone who is not overly negative about people's general intelligence level. Still, I'm not naive enough to think people aren't stupid enough to just ignore horrible voice acting or animation when it's looking them right in the face. So I don't expect much impact either way, positive or negative, but who knows, maybe people will surprise me.

Word of mouth is obviously hard to gage, but it seems to be up and down. Some random Youtube coments at the above-linked vid:
They fucked it out like we knew they would.
(...)
So the two kids start fighting and absolutely no one even reacts? Good job Bethesda, you messed it up again.
(...)
Video is nice, character creation looks nice, everything is nice.
(...)
Ive been playing it, i think its great.
(...)
Well...I'll probably cancel my preorder. Now that I've seen these videos I only realise how little respect towards the licence was put into this project...
(...)
Utter, total crap. I knew this game was gonna be a turkey. I could tell that just from the screenshots and pre-release hype over on Bethesda's site. It's obvious from this video that all of my dire predictions about Fallout 3... and how utterly DUMBED-DOWN and CRAPPY it would be... have all come true.

Save your money, folks. This POS game is an insult to the original two Fallout games... just as we knew it would be.
(...)
absolutely genius
So: mixed.

I kind feel like the side kick from "Live Free or Die Hard" saying how cool a "fire sale" (read leak) would be, but once it is here not so cool.

Voice acting is over the top, like in a play talking really loud and enunciating every syllable to make sure everyone in the audience hears. It isn't like you are talking to someone more like you are being talked at. It doesn't really sound like a conversation, more like... well a play, I think that is pretty accurate.

And I don't know if this will spur negative word of mouth or if people are deep enough in hype to go into total denial, as with Oblivion.

It's a buggy pre-Gold review version, you can't judge the game based on that!
