Fallout 3 screenshots galore

The AB and pulse weapons made people crumble into soot because they dealt electric damage. You'd get the same animation if you died from a forcefield, for instance.

I think making any sort of fine detail judgements based off a poorly angled cellphone camera's(or whatever small concealable camera was used) shots of a projection screen would be a bit hasty.

Anyway didn't the alien blaster do the 50s freeze frame disintegration up once leaving a skeleton and then down once leaving nothing?

Haha, get a load of this guy.

It left a pile of soot, but yeah. Now that I think about it, has any FPP game bothered with gory death animations that go beyond simple gibbing and dismemberment? F.E.A.R. had the charred skeleton thingy, if that counts, but I don't think I've seen anything close to the melting flesh pile sliding from bones ala Fallout done up in 3D. It's a bullet point for me!

I seem to remember a few.

The original Soldier of Fortune had intestions come out and some other death animations. Doom 3 did the disintegration thing I think. I really seem to remember some others, but can't recall specifics off the top of my head. I will say that while they certainly don't have as much character as the original Fallout deaths.. what we have seen from the "bloody mess" deaths and the laser death on the demo's for fallout 3, show more character than most FPS. I am not implying that I like the bloody mess animations, but rather a portion of the dismemberment, like just he head.. or just the arm in a normal death. I would like to see more of the non-bloody mess criticals. Also curious about the other energy weapons and what happens on a critical adbomen hit.

I do have to qualify this in saying I haven't played quite a few of the recent FPS. I like the gameplay, but have over the last few years grown a bit bored with them, looking for a little more meat.

Edit: It doesn't bother me at all.. but for some of you that are less than happy about Fallout 3, anyone else get the banner ad on the top of the site to pre-order Fallout 3?

The faces look infinitely better than they did in Oblivion in those shots but that could be partly due to the crappy cameras. Do they look photoreallistic? Hell no but considering how bad Bethesda graphics look when they go for photorealism, this is much better. Ghouls still don't look like ghouls at all. Mr Burke looks like a CIA agent rather than Snidely Whiplash which is probably good. Dialogue isn't bad except for the fact that only three choices are displayed on screen at any one time (huge problem). Anyone else confused at why they placed a giant Fat Man in the middle of megaton instead of a more efficient model? Methinks Bethesda may only of one type of nuclear weapon...

All in all, it looks like a decent game, though I see nothing Fallout there, and combat and their haphazard level design (ex. excessive use of hackable computers) might be the weak links in the game. It's an improvement over Oblivion (these screenshots are the most promising I've seen) but it still doesn't look good enough to have my money.

Was the 'nerd rage' perk known about already? The first I've seen it anyway. I guess 'adrenaline rush' is just too vanilla for them-- they've got to put some of their ass-spice on it.

Oh man, hey BN any idea why this Perk shows up? From a past incident? :)

Goddamnit, again!

Some of these look very nice, some of them make me wanna puke (especially the baby fragments like the craddle and baby-book etc.). Hate the way they're selecting the promo material.

Aw, fuck this game anyways.

Non-gibbing death animations are really pretty hard to do in 3D. Fallout's death animations are easy enough in 2D, but tougher in 3D.

Bethesda already showed in Oblivion they're not above making fun of their own fans. It's pretty childish stuff, but whatever.

And yeah, it was known already, winterraptor.

You are aware that there are arrows showing that you can scroll up or down, and if you are, are you really so anal as to believe that only 3 dialog options being shown on screen at once constitutes a huge problem?

The shot of that guy sitting on the bench looking up at you is just really painful to look at. I couldn't stand the way people locked eyes with you in Oblivion - so unnatural looking. Honestly... he's not gonna turn his body at all to look at me?

Is that a phone or a statue of a phone?

And those dialogue choices are practically wiki in sentence form.

The other screenshots are ok with me. I think.

That's your definition of anal? I imagine that not being able to see at a glance how many and which your options are, and having to press keys or click on arrows to find out in each and every conversation, would get on your nerves in about 2.63 seconds. That would just be awful design. Not saying that's how it is, but you seem to have a strange idea of what players should be ready to put up with unless they want to be branded as stupid whiners.

That's probably only so in the big-text console versions, tho'. Since the PC version will have a smaller font, it might well lack scrolling.

Corpses Eaten?
WTF?
You can eat corpses now? And drink from toilets?

How about you can use your turds as some sort of chocolat spread to add taste to your bland nuclear sandwiches? And perhaps recycle your boogers into alternative ammo for piperifles?

This game keeps getting more and more interesting. But in a bad way. The only thing I'm quite positive about is the artwork. The illustration for the Black Widow perk blands in nicely with other perk illustrations, for instance. And the Tesla and grandma illustrations are consistent with the style as well. And that's something, I guess.

I like how the face model quality now barely touches on, say, Bloodlines (I know I keep coming back to this game, but it's a good frame of reference), but I doubt the animations will.

I also like how Lucky Harith is a blatant stereotype. Well done.

I'm also not that impressed by dialogue quality, but I've seen all this dialogue before so it's nothing new to me. Let's hope those different options are meaningful.

Or have they seriously cut the detail levels back a ton?

They haven't, but officially released screenshots have usually had some polish in photoshop. It's pretty standard.

Ahaha!

Oh man, that is fucking rich.

PS: note how it says "continue you search for dad" after you blow up Megaton?

Could Megaton be a quest you have to do for the main questline? Wouldn't surprise me.
