Fallout 4 announced with official trailer

Let's not overlook that this is the East Coast. It's definitely looking like a different setting than the Fallout us old-schoolers were looking for... because it kinda sorta is. I ripped on F3 as much as anyone else here (and F2, for that matter...) for its glaring departures in tone and canon, but I reached a point where I realized I had to clear out a little buffer zone for logic where "bitching about them not doing anything new" and "bitching about every new thing they did" overlapped and leave a little room to actually appreciate it when they made moves to distinctify their side of the continent. As a proud member of Team Grognard, I see plenty to be ambivalent about here, but I'm going to wait for the sixteenth before opening the box on Schroedinger's fanboy. A lot of the stuff it initially struck me to complain about is either easily explainable or already has a place or parallel in existing canon.

There's plenty in the trailer I'd specifically like to speculate and/or grumble about, but I'm not going to pick it apart until after coffee, at the very earliest. Composing essay length posts on six square inches of touchscreen is no fun at all.

People even ported the Morrowind landscape into Skyrim. So I am pretty sure we will be able to at least port the New Vegas landscape into Fallout 4. Then it's all a matter of how the dialogue engine has changed. If it remains similar, we might even be able to simply import the topics from New Vegas, adjust some paths and that's it, we got a bare bone New Vegas in Fallout 4. Shit, I would pre-order Fallout 4 just for toying around with it.

Someone should try to port New Vegas stuff into Skyrim. If this works, I am pretty sure we are good to go here.

That's true and I'll hope it remains on the east-coast. Let Bethesda do whatever they want there, for as long as we get a west-coast game by Obsidian.

Yay, another shitty Fallout FPS game !

Bet you bought/stole and played fallout 3. Further, I bet you will buy/steal and play fallout 4. prove me wrong.

Doesnt make you cool to pretend bash something you're obviously going to play, just to fit in with others on a website, just makes you a hypocrite.
I don't get your shtick. Why do you hassle the users? You can bash something and still play it. Doesn't make you a hypocrite. It makes you a critic.

In fact bashing something without playing would be ignorant.

You're stupid.

Offense not intended. But you really are stupid.

I don't care what other people say but this looks so awesome! I watched it a few times. I hope that the game will be as good as this trailer.

NV proved that there were new stories of the wasteland to be told, not just of Vault dwellers. I sincerely hope that this won't just be a retread of that old ground, but the trailer suggests otherwise. F3 was entertaining, but massively flawed and without much replay value (for me, anyway). NV, and particularly the rather excellent DLC, showed that the sometimes bland and often obvious gameplay of F3 could be rescued and made vibrant and nuanced by better writing and implementation, and made something worth revisiting, if only because it was story previously untold in that (or, er, any) Fallout universe.

If this is just wandering over old ground, then shiny graphics and (even) improved mechanics won't rescue underwhelming writing and an overly-familiar narrative.

Of course, I'll still play it.

Yeah, that's why I'm okay with some of the visual departure. As long as they're on the east coast, I feel there can at least be some room for that type of freedom.

I will be disappointed if the main character is voiced... and I'll be even more disappointed if it's Troy Baker (the voice of such characters as... all of them. Most characters in most things). They seem to cheap out on voice casting. Obsidian did a great job adding a lot of voice acting talent. Bethesda, not so much (at least any good actors they had died or didn't have many lines).

Yea you must really think the game is "shitty" then since you fully intend to play it. Lol

He plays it to see if it is shitty or not.

Interesting….

It has a lot of potential. Its in a new area so hopefully new factions and less old ones.

Then again its not by Obsidian.

A big thing to remember is this is the first time they are in the dark. Fallout 3's plots was a copy of 1,2 and tactics while New Vegas was heavily based on Van Buren.

It looks like a theme park. The new aesthetics will fool plenty of people but I'll wait to hear what it's like long before I even touch this game. I played through the whole of Fallout 3's theme park ONCE. If this game has the same replayability value then I'm avoiding it and spending my money elsewhere.

For now, all we can do is wait, and enjoy all the new fish arriving to tell us how great and awesome Bethesda are because some reason.

I like the artstyle and colour scheme, it all looks very cool. Except for one thing.

The talking protagonist.

I really, really, really hope we don't have an established main character or have some dumb ME style voice. God that would just shit on everything.

Actually, rewatching the trailer....I dunno. It doesn't give a very Fallout-vibe to me, not like NV's initial trailer did.

I fucking despise Bethesda for what they did to the fallout franchise. For me Fallout was made to be 2D iso, period and no I haven't played Fallout 3 nor will I ever either !

Me an hypocrite ?? Who the fuck are you ? I don't have to prove shit to you, if you want some proof go fucking dig it yourself in my old posts. I left this place because I was fed up of the positive coverage moderators where trying to convince us that the games was awesome...I cant remember who it was back then but an interview was made with someone here and from Bethesda before F3 was released.

And at my age I certainly don't give a flying fuck if you find me cool or not and quite frankly, seeing how an ahole you are, I rather you not find me cool and I certainly don't want anything to do with you.

For fucks sake, there's always a little shit like you that pulls you rick back in the old aggressive NMA habits.

On a lighter note,

I'm sure I missed out on some nice story's from alec, NMA's favorite foot fetishist !?

this is escalating quickly

about graphics, if that's ingame footage, i'm afraid i will be in for a nice let down, especially after having played tw3 at more-than-ultra settings.

Just throwing out some speculation regarding Fallout 4:

More linear story than NV
Possible multi-character like GTAV
Chryofroze character w/ flashbacks
Semblance of government
Civil-rights issues that parallel current times
Mad Blade Runner references

Blast away

Chryofroze character w/ flashbacks
that would be kinda cool actually

Well, I said what I thought about this trailer in the previous topic - it doesn't feel fallouty to me and I don't like it, F4 probably won't be half as good as NV. But I think it will be better than F3, not only because they can't get any lower than than, but hopefully they learned something from Obsidian and also they're no longer "fresh" to the idea of Fallout, maybe they won't come up with so much fucked up silly f3-style shit?
Anyway, I will play it. I don't keep my expectations too high, but I expect something better than F3. And I think I'm more open-minded than I was before F3 was out.
