Fallout 4 coming out on November 10, free mobile spin-off out now

It wasn't being used in 2077. It was used during some time between 1942 and 2077.

But besides, it's a piece of art. Even within the game, someone could have drawn an inaccurate tank because it looks cool.

IT DOESN'T MATTER.

You sure?

Here, a M46 Patton, marching in Alaska to battle the Chinese.

Fair enough, but again. It's an innacuracy that does not matter since it was a two off, retro design for a tank in a picture that wasn't meant to be closely examined. Just like I'm sure that that U.S. to annex Canada picture is an actual picture, but you're not criticizing that.

I suppose so. I know the U.S. to annex Canada picture is real, but not really sure if the M46 one is real. But there are more alternatives than the M46 which also look cool. Or you can be creative.

A futuristic tank (sometime in the 70s), that with some modifications, can look "old" and cool at the same time.

I think the Fallout world gives a lot of sources for decent design ideas. Of which some might even be reasonable. See Fallout 1 had Plasma and Laser weapons. But they also had the Gauss rifle in Fallout 2.

It would be only reasonable to assume that those weapons would see one way or another use in armored vehicles and tanks. At least with the gauss rifle you might have even a somewhat realistic representation - at least the navy seems to expect magnetic weapons like the Gauss/Railguns on ther ships in the next 25 years or so and who knows where it will go from there, I would not rule out the possbility to see it on tanks one day.

At least plasma weapons like in Fallout 1 should be used with vehicles.

I like both. I just wish Bethesda hadn't just retconed the AER model as THE ONLY model, New vegas tried to reintroduce the original plasma weapons into the game and explain the differences as rivaling companies working on similar military inclined projects (which makes sense) but they seemed to have neglected the Laser weapons entirely.

The 'Future Weapons Today' magazine in New Vegas does mention a story covering a marine sniper with a Wattz 2000 Laser rifle in Nanjing.

Didn't the Anchorage DLC have some futuristic Drill/Laser tanks?

Kind of. A cut holotape says that General Chase went a bit too far with the simulator, and one of the guys in the holotape even says "Chimeras? Are those even real?!" or something similar. I wonder why it was cut..

I think Heavy Weapon Carriers or IFVs would have lasers or something similar as they suit the Infantry Support role more than traditional autocannons. And Plasma cannons as a replacement for ATGMs?

Rheinmetall IRL has finished doing a 30kW laser, though it's a bit too.. hmm.. big to be put in a vehicle. Only a static mount so far. The biggest one mounted on a vehicle by Rheinmetall is 6kW or so. And that's a big truck.

For Gauss guns, I agree. However I am not really sure how would they be powered. Batteries? IRL the Destroyer w/ Railgun uses Hydrogen Cells if I am not wrong.

I second this. Both are good. However I think that you can come up with "The company that made the AER/3 Plasma Rifle is more dominant in the East Coast" as a valid excuse for the lack of it in 3.

For NV, they didn't really neglect it, they said that in a magazine, some U.S. Army guy with his Wattz 2000 managed to snipe a Crimson Dragoon or so.

"You are having a quiet moment with your dog, then th right song comes in your pipboy and action breaks out, that's what Fallout is"
So, to Howard Fallout is just killing people to the tune of 50's music...... great....

yeah but with a DOG!:whatever:

well to him fantasy is killing stuff from a horseback. So we should be happy that at least it isnt riding on a dog this time ... an improvement.

i mean, as far as mods go it could be something like the G.E.C.K. addon for fallout3 where you could build anything as far as items go but anything more than that required serious working. i remember making a 10mm pistol that shot bees. it was interesting

I always thought it became exactly a meme because it was so stupid as a line ...

I never understood this high focus on speaking NPCs anyway, even in New Vegas. I mean does that even seem believable to anyone? The only people I know that shout one liners whem I am out in town are ... crazy people.
they should honestly just mutter as you walk past until you're popular in the city. that's more realistic at least

I think they should just stay shut. Who in the world talks to strangers whenever they pass you? It's so stupid. It makes you feel like that chick from "woman walks around a city for X hours", catcalling everywhere.

I would prefer NPC "extras" without any actual dialogue to engage in conversations with each other that we can overhear

When the website says "Join Multiple Factions" they probably forgot to add "All at the same time". Just remember the guilds in Skyrim and all the Beth babies complaining about quests closing off for helping rival factions....

It's frankly stupid how often the hero of Tamriel has been the archmage, the head of the dark brotherhood, the head of whatever the biggest mercenary group is, and the guildmaster of the thieves guild AT THE SAME TIME.

Not that I'm saying the game should make it absolutely impossible to do these things, but being in charge of one thing should make it more noticeably more difficult to be in charge of something else.

Hopefully Fallout 4 will just hold it to "this group really likes you" not "you are now the Provost of the Institute"

Not to mention that some factions might be simply completely opposed to each other. Up to the point where they show open hostility even. People can get in to fights for much lesser things than factions membership. I feel Morrowind was really on the right track here, as far as Beth games goes. Particularly as becoming the master of a guild/faction was not always easy to achieve. Even though it could be pretty ridiculous sometimes because of the fetch quests. But oh well. At least it made it more believable. I wish they would have actually improved that part in their games instead of simnplyfing it to the point where it becomes almost useless.

I am pretty certain if F4 will have some like guilds or factions that you will do 3 or 4 quests of epic proportions for them where they simply have no other choice but to make you the leader of their faction. I mean you saved them afterall! But which in the end doesn't change anything since they will carry on like nothing ever happend no matter if you're their leader now or not because Beth games are full of choices - if you want to call it that, but they have almost zero consequences.
thats something that was nice in NV: you had some factions that you could be liked in without too much consequence in other factions (the families on the strip and what have you) and you had other factions that were at war and you couldnt be in both at the same time (legion and NCR) id like to see even more of that where it forces you to choose (even though it gives me massive anxiety on my first playthrough lol) because then you get unique oppertunities to be evil and side with the immoral people then decide to turn it around and side with more just causes (although still a little warped). i dont want faction exclusivity, but i would like to see at least a few more "this or that" choices.

That already happens in Skyrim and it's annoying. I don't know how many times have I heard about Ysolda coming to the market to buy some fresh fruit and that Nazeem doesn't have to because he has his own farm. It sounds good at first, but then it gets repetitive really quickly because you can record only so many conversations.

STALKER handled one liners nice. When you pass by, "Hello, stalker.", etc. If, you want gossip and such, you would need to initiate dialogue with that stalker and ask for news/rumors. Other than that, nope.

yeah this but you people must not live in very friendly places. most of the time people give you an awkward "hi" when you walk past that's half-muttered and idk i dont want to walk around a city in silence. i like the npcs acknowledging that you exist (since in a post-war environment, there arent THAT many people in a city) it'd also be cool if you could overhear them talking about you like "did you see that guy in the armor? blahblahblahblahblah" because if you lived in a tiny settlement in a nuclear wasteland, you'd be pretty interested in a newcomer walking in wearing a sheriff's hat and power armor too. then again that might require meaningful writing soooo... we might be stuck with arrows to the knee and "maybe im the dragonborn" (my personal fav skyrim guard banter)
