Fallout 4 review - No Todds, no Masters

I also have to say this guy's statement that Fallout 4 is Skyrim with guns offends me on two levels.

Fallout 4 was mindless fun with no real good storytelling ala Fallout 3 or New Vegas.

And he hates Skyrim, my all-time favorite video game.
Implying Fallout 3 had real good storytelling.

And if your all-time favorite 'video game' is Skyrim, you need to play more games to know what good game is.

Disclaimer: I'm not trying to invalidate the fact that you had fun. I once had fun with Skyrim and I really loved it. But when I was baptized by the fire that is Dark Souls, things changed. I've played many video games by now, and I'll confidently say that Skyrim isn't even a good video game, especially when compared to Dark Souls that came out the same year.

It's a visual masterpiece which immersed me in another world. It also gave me the freedom to explore that world as I wanted as the character I wanted versus putting me on a set road. Skyrim is pretty much one of the places I'd want to live if I could ente a world of fiction.

I can't say I much cared for Dark Souls or it's world.

I can't say I much cared for Skyrim or it's world, too.

Only pretty pictures, but no substances or anything of value behind/below all of it. Coupled with atrocious gameplay, you had recipe for an extremely popamole game meant to be played with no brain at all.

Not that it's bad to play mindless games, but if it's your 'all-time favorite' I'm rather worried about the health of your mind and mental state.

Basically, it's lines like that which cause me to roll my eyes and wonder why I bother. Basically, the absolutism and inability to see anything good in Bethesda or its writing. I could talk all day about Skyrim and it's writing, world-building, and characters.

But none of that would make a damn bit of difference to the majority of people here.

So, yeah, I guess we disagree and I'm sorry you can't appreciate the game's intricacies. I wish I could do the same for Dark Souls.

Yeah like that one c00l quest where you have to kill a bunch of Draugr.
Or that other c00l quest where you go to a dungeon and there are some Draugr you have to kill.
Or that one c00l dungeon with some Draugr and a c00l door puzzle.

Oh man they should make a franchise out of Skyrim it was so c00l and profitable. ecksdee

Do you actually want me to talk about Skyrim's awesomeness and intricacies or is that just a put down?

Pffffft. Except, there's really nothing really good to talk about Bethesda or its writing. Compare the talk of how Dark Souls literally helped people deal with depression, or the classical Fallout on how one would theoretically deal a world and civilization rising from the ashes of an Old World burnt by nuclear fire, or even Planescape: Torment on what can change the nature of a man. Compare all of that to.... what does Skyrim offer that can compare to all of that? I never even stumbled upon any YouTube videos talking about how 'deep' Skyrim's writing. Nearly every thing about Skyrim that I've encountered in the internet are memes and shit.

The only one willing to talk about the Elder Scrolls series from that perspective is MrBtongue (and maybe a couple of some others I didn't get to know), but even him praised Morrowind over Skyrim.

But none of that would make a damn bit of difference to the majority of people here.

I mean, have you even tried Dark Souls?

Like I said, I had fun with Skyrim. Once. I've played it for God knows how long. Dark Souls opened my eyes on what makes video game actually good, and playing New Vegas brought me even further down that path.

Speaking of Skyrim and Dark Souls side by side, why not watch these 2 videos by MrBtongue, instead?

And yeah, pretty much what SarcasticGoodGuy said.

Pardon me if this was already discussed, but on side note, Caption claimed around 41:50 that the Master is the second most powerful psyker in Fallout. The first is Melchior as he claimed in the comments, any thoughts on this?

I think it made 'kinda' sense with the Master considering his level of mutation and all. But I really feel it should have been only limited to him, as it made the Master in some way special. He developed super powers! He just had to become an unrecognizable blob of flesh that's eating corpses to get them.

I can't remember much about Melchior, he "summoned" some high level critters during combat but I can't remember if in game it is shown or proved it is by using psyke powers. If I remember right Melchior was an illusionist before being captured by the Enclave, so unless the game tells us or proves that he is using psyke powers I always assumed it was just an illusionist tricks (smoke and mirrors).

EDIT: I think i just remember that his kid said that Melchior's favorite trick was pulling a rat out of a hat. So it is basically what he does with the more dangerous "pets" he summon. Which makes me think even more that it might be a trick.

Sigh. Really wish they'd just hand the rights to Fallout to Obsidian. Man it's a shame what Fallout has become.

Notably, Chris Avellone really hated working at Obsidian and it's not the company it was.

Sawyer is still there and I have more faith in him when it comes to Fallout. Obsidian in its current state is still better at making RPGs than Bethesda.

Also, about the video, what is the deal with all the hate for the temple of trials? It takes maybe 15 minutes.
