Fallout 4 "The Wanderer" trailer

It's not about it being about action, it's the way it presents the action.

And yeah, I saw the FO2 trailer, it was still better than this one. Not what I'd prefer, but far better.
Why?
Cause it gave some backstory and it showed real gameplay.

Yeah, it was still mostly just shit about combat, but at least it was proper gameplay, and at least they didn't present it as "look at what a badass you can be!" If anything, any "badassery" was merely a consequence of the gameplay itself.

[edit]

All right, so what makes a good trailer to me?
A good trailer informs the player about the story, the gameplay, what it got in terms of mechanics and shit like that and shows some interesting bits.
The story bit can just be narrated over the gameplay, and the gameplay can be chopped up into little 2 second segments that show off various things like the inventory or the combat or the way you level up your character and then you sprinkle in 2 second segments of scenes and crap from the game that show off iconic characters, factions or events that intrigues the player.

A good trailer gives a little bit of everything.
The less it gives, the worse of a trailer it is.

I think the general idea in game trailers is often to showcase one element of the game, instead of a little of everything, unless it is like the flagship trailer for the title. They will release so many different ads and clips by the time the game comes out... Personally, I would've been fine with a trailer of just action as long as it was gameplay. This is old hat, and it's all stuff that you can do in the game, but they don't SHOW you doing it in the game, they just pre-render it for some reason. The best out-of-engine trailers I have seen usually offer something unique that you couldn't see in the game; good examples being Blizzard ads, some of the Halo ODST and Reach ads, and Dishonored's Tales From Dunwall series. By contrast, this walk-with-dog-then-shoot-super-mutant-in-slow-motion BS is pretty boring.

I love the first two games, I've been playing them since I was 9-10 and have beaten them in all kinds of play styles and character builds without getting bored once. I wouldn't even compare the new Fallouts to them. But, people who claim those games were super hard and required a certain level of intelligence to play - baffle me. It really wasn't that hard once you got a hang of its style. I got several people into old rpgs and they did just fine in classic Fallouts, even though all three of them were into modern games only until then.

For me, the classics are superior simply because they had more content and more options for a preferred play style.
With Fallout 4, I feel like they don't know what direction they are going to, and just experiment with it. It's popular enough of a title to sell, and I doubt there was that much invested in it to begin with.

When you compare it to shooting things as they come at you. Even Diablo is a hard game.

Speaking of Diablo, I hope there're more variations of existing mutants. Do people want roguelike elements in fallout? Is creation engine still good at procedural generation?

You know, with Bethesda. It really does get old after the 8th trailer you release unto the public it is just another way to kill a random nameless enemy.

Hell, Most of their enemies are going to be retarded "Raider" Or "Super Mutant" Nothing unique about them. They will be as static as a brick.

Show some Choice and Consequences. Take some actually good story telling and infuse it with some appropriate music. Not just 50's cliche.

Like fuck, man. Is it that hard to ask for?

Yeah they should but not on something like this trailer which is basically a pure-hype TV add one. Maybe they'll do it the week after the Luck SPECIAL videos

I don't think anyone's saying that the classic games are like the hardest RPGs out there, but compared to Fallout 3, which was wayyyy too easy, it's fair to say they were hard especially when you didn't look up a guide. You could say it requires a decent amount of intelligence to figure out the UI and your choices to play well but otherwise whatever.

They had quite sometime to make one, If this was the teaser trailer back in a few months near June, Leading up to E3. I'd wouldn't be so militant over this. But it's been months. They have not shown anything to convince me that the story, or the world i'd inhabit would be interesting.

I just know how to jerk my cock around with my cheeto laced finger tips while listening to some 50's music killing people with a splodge induated teddy bear.

And with about 3 weeks left, it is very unlikely they will do so. Of course they are aiming for the element of surprise. Maybe Lexx is right and they really have such little confidence in their writing that they have avoided talking about it, so as not to fall into the "false promises" trap like they have before. Or maybe it turns out pretty well and in that case, they surprise us in a good way. I doubt that, though, looking at the few dialogue pieces we've seen.

I honestly don't see how the main story could be any worse than FO3's, but we know that's a low bar to meet. It's probably BoS (probably midwest BoS and/or descendents of the lost airships) vs. Institute this time, so the story has potential to be good. I wish some new faction was in the BoS's place instead of the BoS, but if there are a number of new, less powerful factions that have depth to them, I would like that.

Right now, I'm most interested in buying Fallout 4 for the improved engine and mods like Fallout: Lonestar, whose team has confirmed they will be using the Fallout 4 engine.

I wonder if they'll do a day one patch or something. That shit is like the norm these days.

That's pretty much what games are today. But if you bitch about that, then it's just OH MY GOD! You're such a hater!

Sadly that's true. I'm arguing against Fallout 3 in Sugarbombed, and being helped by Brain_Pill, one of their better reasoned members. If he reads this, hats off to you sir!

I'm gonna try to be devils advocate for Sugarbombed, take note that I understand that Fallout 3 and probably Fallout 4 is full of flaws (definitely the dialouge) thus I'm not trying to be a fanboy. Also if this is considered cross-site trolling then feel free to vat this post since I just feel I need to get this off my chest but I don't want to screw up the thread.

But I've seen your thread on the site Dr Fallout, you pretty much just went in and started a thread just to "open their eyes" to that Fallout 4 won't be good and then arguing with a mod for a few posts.

You also pretty much called them all fanboys for enjoying Fallout 3 and for looking forward to Fallout 4 and you were daring them to ban you for disliking Fallout 3 as if to prove a point or something. The fact you felt the need to sign up and intrude on them to "teach them that they were wrong" rubs me the wrong way too.

They weren't even the "Besasduh fanboyz" type either, just normal people who recognized that Fallout 3 had tons of problems (one even commended to the Shamus Young article) but they enjoyed it anyway so it just sems unfair to call Brain_Pill a better reasoned member than them since all he did was agree with you.

No it's fine, I get where you're coming from. Yep, I went in! I was basically the devil's advocate there, because there was a very small group of people who didn't think that Fallout 3 was fantastic and ultimate. I did call them fanboys, but depending on your definition so am I! I love the original games, hence you can consider me to be a Fallout 1/2 fanboy. Because they wanted to ban me, some didn't but several did just because I disliked the game and provided my reasons for it. More like teach them that there are massive flaws for the game.

Some were. And again some did, but the majority didn't. Yeah I shouldn't really say that, there some really nice Fallout 3 fans, which I hope I acted relatively respectful, but Brain_Pill doesn't try to apoligise for Fallout 3 faults, which is basically one of the things I dislike about most Fallout 3 fans. Even the stupidest problem has to be explained by a equally stupid reason. I'm harsh on it, due to me growing up with Morrowind.
