Fallout 4 vs Fallout 2

Thought it was a bit weird there was a Chinese Empire there that hasn't really expanded for 100+ years, but eh... it was okay.
The Shi were more of a city-state, they also probably would've run into some problems with the NCR and BoS if they had tried to expand.

This is true... ignore me on that point then...
But yeah, I didn't really mind anything in Fallout 2, maybe some of the humour was off at times and it kind of dragged on a bit.
But otherwise, it's fine.

I've never seen this topic get examined in great detail, so I think it could make for an interesting discussion. So, has anyone made a comparison between how Black Isle and Bethesda handled their first sequels for their respective entries into the Fallout series? Things such as showing how much the world has grown and how factions have evolved in-between games.

As someone who played Fallout 1 and Fallout 2 intensively back then..I was a massive fan of that game.. for me the best game ever in this category and type. This game was just almost perfect for its time. The main thing about it was the story and the music. It was all so perfect. The story and events gripped you to the core and when the game is over you feel like your life cannot continue without this game.. like you wished this could continue for ever and you can never get bored playing it. It was a perpetual state of discovering new things and being excited about the next quest. Massive game.. beautiful.. Really impressive how good it was.

Comparing the Fallout 3, 4 etc..I was extremely dissapointed. That is not Fallout. Period. Basically they made it a shooting game.. and named it Fallout. It was a marketting trick if you want. They stole the brand. All genuine fans are very dissapointed with that crap. Did not play it and will never. Disgusting when you realise that they actually did.

Fallout 3 and 4 etc= garbage. Horrible design... shooting plastic bags.. shooting game.. Nothing to do with the original fallouts.

It is hard to compare Fallout 2 with 4 because the first one is RPG game with survival elements and the other game is FPS exploration game with RPG elements (vanilla game that is).

I have transformed Fallout 4 into survival game with RPG elements tho (using many immersion mods and mods made by myself too, much more satisfying to play than a looter shooter vanilla). 80% less loot, meds and guns, lore friendly PA stats, NPC use ammo, absolute minimal settlement building... and that's how a postapocaliptic FP(S) game should be played.

Okay, back on track, Fallout 2 is a great RPG with a great story and sidequests, but has waaaaay too much guns in it. That always bugged me. And I couldn't do squat about it because I couldn't mod it (not enough skill for that hex editor or w/e). Fallout 4 is as linear as the trans-australian truck road, but is highly modable and can so be transformed into the game you want to play.

Fallout 2 compared to predecessor kept all the goodies and expanded the universe, while Fallout 4 compared to 3 ditched almost all skill and stat checks (bad), reworked the perk system (that's good and bad in my book), ditched weapon and armor conditioning bad), gave almost everyone in a game guns with unlimited ammo (bad), introduced good system for modding weapons and armor (good), reworked PA so it isn't a pathetic suit anymore and introduced power supply for it (very good), replaced critical damage system (good and bad).

I love both games, each one in a different unique way (I have replayed both of them more than five times).

Honestly Fallout 2 showed progress as we see society getting back on track with the NCR have a sizable army and population. Fallout 4 on the other hand, is utterly unrelated to FO3 save a few minor points. Instead of Talon Mercs, we have the Gunners, who are more or less, the same thing and just as underdeveloped. Hell, just listen to the Brotherhood idle chatter mention that the Capital Wasteland is still a hellscape...for some reason. I'd imagine FO5 will be much the same.
