Fallout 4 - Wasteland Workshop Official Trailer

Well Bethesda just pulled "Horse Armor 2.0". There're objectively better mods on Nexus. Only reason this thing has a price tag is to make Season Pass look like a "great deal".

While people at Reddit and Beth forums ignore the truth: after Far Harbor there won't be another real story DLC. Two more Automatron like DLCs(if we're lucky) and that will be it.

I've thought about this some more and there's something I want to clarify:

To be fair though, it's 5 bucks for an arena feature and concrete theme.
I mean, is that really overpriced? I spend 5 bucks on a pack of cigarettes every other day, so, yknow. Perspective.

My main issue is that they chose to put other stuff behind a paywall when they didn't need to, all so that they could pretend like the DLC got more content to it than it actually does and that it just feels like a waste of time and makes me wonder what Bethesda's been doing all this time since Fallout 4 got released. Instead of being a 5 buck DLC it could've been a 10 buck DLC that actually did something worthwhile with the settlement mechanic.

5 bucks for a new theme and an arena feature. It ain't that bad. I wouldn't buy it but it ain't that bad. It's the other stuff that pisses me off. So yeah I don't think it's Horse Armor 2.0 any more. It's just disingenuous, a waste of time, a waste of potential, makes me question Bethesda's productivity and feels like a slap in the face.

I've been hanging around the Beth forums lately because I applied for the CK beta. And I've seen 1 or 2 topics where people complain about the DLC being a ripoff. Anyway, its one more DLC and thats it right? 3 DLC's just like in Skyrim.

Testing the waters then overstepping their bounds with this trash DLC, I need some popcorn to see what happens next. They're really hyping Fart Harbor as a huge landmass but I bet it's going to be a disappointment just like the Dragonborn DLC.

Is it expensive, no, but neither are $1 microtransactions in mobile games, but it doesn't make them right. There are tons of assets in the game they could have added to this, or a better scrapping system for trash and what not, portable scrapping table, new settlements, the list of things that they could have easily added is what makes $5 for this shit overpriced.

Yes, $5 is too much for content that modders have already made, especially for content that would have been better released as a free "goodwill" DLC that generates fan appreciation for Bethesda instead of resentment. The Homemaker mod looks incredible compared to this, for example. It is too much when you consider the content of the 16 free DLC's of Witcher 3.

This was a wasted opportunity for Bethesda to build some goodwill by releasing this small amount of content for free. It is not unusual for developers to do this - but people are so used to EA business practices that 90 dollars for Mass Effect DLC is the new norm. It probably would have gained them positive attention and some more purchases of the Season Pass if they had released this as a free content patch. Instead, this makes me want to avoid the Season Pass entirely.

This DLC is made with one audience in mind: Consoles which don't have mods.

Stuff like this may eventually lead to Bethesda destroying its modding community through paid mods or other nonsense if the business people realize that modders are making such content for free all along without them getting a cut of the action.

The Season Pass promises $50 for "at least $60 worth of content" but when you look at the fact that Automatron and Wasteland Workshop are $15 and Far Harbor is $25, then it means they could either put out a bunch of paid mods like Wasteland Workshop or just 1 more actual DLC like Far Harbor and fulfill that promise. So it doesn't really look appealing.

Bethesda has me torn between my love for anything Fallout and this paid mod stuff included in the season pass. If they produce multiple ACTUAL DLCs like Far Harbor and such, then great - they did something good with the season pass. If not, they're slowly but surely becoming like EA.

5 bucks on a pack of cigarettes

J "TF" C - People are paying $20 - $25 per pack in Australia [$1 per cig], rolling tobacco is over $1 per gram [$30 per 25g]. This country is being run by a pack of greedy fuckers, just like BGS. Then they go and spend the taxes on shit like f-35 bombers that don't even fucking work, tanks, bombs, guns, soldier food etc. Roads in this country are the worst I've ever seen. So are the hospitals and schools.

Yea it definitely looks like this should have been a free content patch. But now they are only obligated to provide $20.01 worth of DLC after Far Harbor to complete their promise of "at least $60 worth of DLC" with the Season Pass. So basically they could put out $20.01 of more paid mods and settlement items and call it a day.

Or they could actually do something great with Far Harbor and subsequent DLC. If they do that then I would be pleasantly surprised.

There is so much that can be added to the game.
  • Multiple currencies
  • Martial arts
  • Duel wielding for melee weapons
  • Bodies having an effect on stealth
  • Improved disguise system
  • Non-lethal takedowns
  • Random encounters in fast traveling
  • Improved repair mechanic
  • Using medicine on NPCs
  • etcetera
Instead we get a simplified leveling, dialogue, survival, and faction system. No role-playing. No level cap. Easily accessible 10 in every stat. Less weapons, ammo, and perks. More overpowered weapons (with abilities akin to magic) and perks (with stupid effects). The magic ability to will critical hits into existence. A stupid settlement system that demands that you feed, protect, shelter, and entertain a group of unkillable NPCs while looking for your son.

How about peaceful ending where all 4 factions can coexist together or something. I'm having a hard time now choosing between BOS or Institute. And I find it hard to believe that the BOS would destroy the institute and loose all that technology. I don't think they thought this through very hard..

But I agree. There are tons more things they could have added. Or at the very least rework the current building system. Make scrap walls snap together or something.

Tricking enemies who are attacking you into fighting each other instead of you is tons of fun!
That reminded me of something that I did in Fallout: New Vegas. This going to be a long story.

I found the Dead Wind Cavern at level 8.
I saw some Deathclaws near the entrance.
There were some Legion assassins out to get me.
I lead them to the Deathclaws at the entrance.
I shot one of the Deathclaws when they were close by.
The Legion assassins fought the Deathclaws.
I gave some minor sniper support to the assassins.
They all fucking died.
Deathclaw was after me.
I ran and hide in Harper's shack.
I prepared myself to fight.
I went outside.
I dropped 2 frag mines
I shot the thing with my Hunting Rifle.
It ran toward me and activated the mines.
It clawed me.
I shot it in the face with my shotgun until it died.
The two smaller Deathclaws were no problem.

I saw the cave, saved, and went inside.
"Holyshit! Deathclaws at the entrance!"
I exited the cave.
I turned around and saw all of the Deathclaws from cave following me including the Legendary Deathclaw.
The only reason that I was able to see that was because ED-E tanked it all before dying.
I reseted.

After remembering what so important about that cave, I eventually went back with Boone and ED-E to try that trick again.
I fast-traveled to the Harper's shack.
I killed a blind Deathclaw.
I told Boone and ED-E to wait next to the shack.
I ran into Prim Passage.
I saw some Legion Assassins in the distance.
I lured them as close to the cave as possible.
I went inside.
I got out.
I ran as fast as possible into the shack ignoring the assassins and getting Boone and ED-E with me.
The Legendary Deathclaw and the Deathclaw Mother followed me into the shack.
I died.
I reseted by auto save.
They didn't follow me inside this time.
I waited until it was hidden status.
I went out.
They were still there.
I reseted.
I dismissed both companions.
I tried to lose them by running in and out of the shack.
One stealth boy later, they stopped following me.
I walked into the cave.
There were still three Deathclaws then I gave up
The Legendary Deathclaw and Deathclaw Mother still stuck in the shack.
Image 1 is what happen to the assassins.

The other images are proof of Deathclaw shack thing.

Is this the shit Rose has to do to make those wasteland omelets?

I don't get the appeal for the "arena" stuff. This just doesn't look very interesting on any level (even if forgetting the character is immortal):

It's a paid mod. Simple as that.

Either Bethesda releases a lot of content with actual story DLC like Far Harbor and more to go along with these paid mods, or the season pass was a ripoff.

If only Kohno, if only Kohno...

And that an ending slide would reflect it. "The Sole Wanderer, finally sick of Preston's incessant nagging about settlements needing help, decided to put him in an arena where he had to face a deathclaw that promptly tore him apart. At least the audience loved it and the ticket prices rocketed."

Oh I am pretty the Season pass will prove to be a complete ripoff unless Bethesda really makes a "Return to the Capital Wasteland" DLC. A couple more filler DLC will probably be announced after Far Habor, I would not even rule out another Wasteland Workshop one with more junk to decorate your settlements with.

Whats funny is watching BGS fans not only defend this crap, but claim it's the DLC they've been waiting for since it was announced. I actually believe that if horse armor were released today not only would it not be criticized by the masses, but defended as being "inexpensive" and "doing what it says on the tin."

Kind of sad isn't it, the taste and intelligence of the average consumer lowering each year.

As I once said before in another thread, the Execs probably said to each other when paid mod failed "The time is not there yet."
I guess the time is now.

Sometimes I'll wonder, maybe I'm just too old for this and just don't get it. Then one of these AAA devs pulls some shit like this and I realize, nope their just stupid.

Well... the arguments about price are interesting. Seem very similar to discussions about music. "$300 for your band is very reasonable, but we have another band willing to play for free" It hurts to accept that the art you're producing isn't worth anything, but sometimes it just isn't.

$5 might be reasonable considering the development time (and QA?) involved, but when others are doing better for free, there's no market there. If you're propping the price up with artificial scarcity by holding back the modding toolkit, it is hardly great PR. So what could they possibly be hoping to achieve here? It seems like a poor choice for a cash grab...

I don't think it's a cash-grab; I think it's another $5 of padding to plump up the Season Pass.

People paid money for this shit? Where's the arena-wait THIS is the "arena"? That's the tiniest arena ever! I was atleast expecting them to make a sort of colosseum for this shit but this. is. HILARIOUS!!! It looks like something a modder would've thrown together even though modders would do it way better.

Where's the audience by the-wait the six or so people are the audience? Fucking joke, they sound so bored when shouting things. What did Bethesda walk out into the street and ask some hobos to voice act for them so they could save more money?

Look at how the Deathclaw walks away into the wall after putting immortal Gravey on his ass, that AI!!!
