Fallout 76 Really Sucks. People Act Shocked.

Well, well. It seems like even Bethesda's biggest boot licker wasn't able muster himself up and shill for Bethesda this time around. Bethesda, you dun fucked up!

They fucked up the moment Pete Hines and Todd Howard took over Bethesda. It just took years to feel the effects.

What you guys think?

The funniest part of that? A fair few of his complaints, from textures to POS seeming like they were just using the Fallout name as a brand, can all be applied to Bethesda's Fallouts. You could replace most of his issues with Fallout 76 and still be pretty right.

And even those canvas bags they give to their pet youtuber are cheap ass ones.
So, 500 Atoms was fair in terms of compensation, if only it was REAL money... I wonder what the other $100 was for... for the sense of pride and accomplishment?

People are also incredibly ignorant when it comes to game development. The engine isn't one solid piece of tech that is unchanged and has hardcoded structures that can't be changed. The engine has bugs, but has received a lot of improvements in many different areas, and every single area can be changed, improved, replaced, whathaveyou. The engine isn't "bad" at all. (Honestly: Show me an engine with a better implementation of massive open world areas with no loading in the overworld, with a massive number of ingame items that can be looted, dropped, stored, and a very large number of NPCs with stories, dialogs, interactions etc)
Hahahaha. I saw this on the 76 thread on GTAF, they think Gamebryo is actually a good engine and should be used more.

that's exactly what fallout needs - thousands of teaspoons which you can pick up and sell for 0,01 bottle caps each. the old games would have done the same if it wasn't for the engine's limitations

I wonder if Bethesda is going to learn their lesson after fallout 76. I doubt it because they are using the same engine for elder scrolls 6 and starfield, and the fact they would make fallout 76, a shitty rust clone after the mixed reception of fallout 4, with half the fans calling it a borderlands clone. Bethesda doesn't seem like they are going to let go of their engine anytime soon, I would not if surprised if Bethesda crashed and burned because of their stubbornness. It's amazing how behind the time they are. I don't know why they would make this but not give obsidian another chance to make a new fallout. They could of gotten more money that way, yet by doing this instead, they piss off the whole fucking fan base. It's like Bethesda wants to die. Oh well more fallout sonora hype. Might learn Russian so I don't have to wait for a English patch.

New Vegas was the worst of the series! It was so boring having to talk with NPC's when I wanted to Loot, Kill, Return! Bethesda cares about its fans!

Bethesda is kind of consistent in how they like dialog to work in their games. Already with Fallout 3 they said "Dialog wasn't the battle we wanted to take", and lateron with Fallout 4: "Now you don't have to click through the dialog, you can just walk away!" And now there's no dialog at all to click through or walk away from.

How about that.

This is biggest geopolitical disaster of XXI century. Countless RPG fans became separated entities.

If you asked Pete Hines how he felt he would call it an improvement.

Funny thing is, text count either from lore dispensers terminals, or voice acted through holotapes or talked at the player through robot NPCs now bigger than ever. That's a dialectic opposite of Fallout 4, denial of denial.

It's really funny honestly. They go out of their way to hire voice actors and write thousands of lines of dialogue, only to want for players to be able to skip it.

Its because they're all, at best, action gamers. They wanted to make 3rd person diablo style games. Or at least Todd and Hines probably want that, but they came into a team that wanted to make RPGs - hell they had an actual RPG game designer making the games back during Morrowind and maybe Oblivion (I think he had one foot out the door by then). Its why the systems back then at least gave a sense of choice. Howard's dogged insistence seems to be common knowledge to have contributed to the RPG guys leaving. They want to make action games but have been doing their damndest to boil the frog alive by slowly convincing everyone that talking through a mike in a voice in a voice and choosing your gun and stat boost is enough to be an 'Open-world RPG'. Its honestly what infuriates me most about them. A leveling system was all you needed to be an RPG back when we were on Apple II maybe, but we really should have advanced by the end of the 90's to having RPG mean so much more.

This all also reinforces the notion from 10 years ago that Fallout to Bethesda is just a petri dish to pour all kinds of shit in to see how it grows. And unlike before, now they might have noticed that black mold probably isn't healthy, and removing the fungi that produces it might also be problematic.

I still don't get it why it was filled with robots and not humans, I really have the feeling there has been a lot more going on during the development and conceptualisation of Fallout 76. Maybe they really hit a creative low or something, I am not sure. Maybe I am overthinking this, and they have been simply looking for a quick cash grab.

Fallout 76 is an aborted fetus that bethesda game studio shrugged off to newly bought BattleCry Studios (now bethesda austin) which specialization were online games before acquistion. Yes, it's a F4 mod.

Because Bethesda primarily wants to target the console market, not the PC market. Hell, Petey boy is a console gamer and doesn't really care or like PC games. Bethesda seems to have a love/hate relationship with PC gamers. They hate them but love them for the mods they make. Console gamers aren't really big RPG fans but action fans or so Bethesda's higher ups stupidly believe. They look at the money that EA and Actvision get with their yearly releases of Call of Duty and Battlefield and salivate over the money they make. Hell, both Todd and Pete even admitted that they want Fallout to be more like Call of Duty.

Ouch. What?! Where did they say this? I don't doubt you or that statement but I gotta read/hear it for myself.
Damn! That was a long time ago that I can't find it! Sure a more astute NMA'er will find it. But I recalled them saying that they wanted the shooting mechanics to be more like CoD.

With all the Bethesda fans switching sides I'm just sitting here thinking about how in television shows people sometimes make the statement "Simpsons did it first". Now I'm sitting here and thinking "NMA did it first".

I'm quite happy the Bethesda fans are waking up, I just hope they take the time to engage with the rest of the fan base to obtain a better picture of the state of the Fallout franchise. Up until now the Bethesda fans have been fighting everyone tooth and nail defending Bethesda Games Studios, but now they're against them I wonder if they will be amiable to more rational discussions?

At the current rate of BGS burning themselves down, plus alienating their more hardcore fans I expect Bethesda to suffer a considerable amount before there is a change in leadership there.

Let's be honest, Bethesda Games Studios needs to shake things up at the top, not the bottom.

Here's how I would fix Bethesda Games Studios:
  1. Stop all work on all projects.
  2. Require all employees to submit to an internal review based on merit.
  3. Fire all the lazy, jaded, and incompetent employees starting at the very top.
  4. Label the Gamebryo/Creation engine obsolete, then acquire another more modern engine. In this case I would choose to save money by using another engine owned by Bethesda/Zenimax like Id Tech.
  5. Hire on new employees that are competent and willing to learn. If possible I would try to steal/lure developers from other companies in an effort to regain some faith from the fans.
  6. Retool all employees to work on building a comprehensive set of utilities for the engine to support the needs of future development with the engine.
  7. Generate a tech demo based upon the work completed from the new development utilities, then release the software to the modders to explore.
  8. Review all previous projects for viability, if they can be salvaged within the new engine then work may begin. If they cannot, then they would be scrapped.
  9. Before setting everyone to work on their various projects I would ensure that they understand what it is they are working on. For new projects I would focus on the pre-production materials while comparing the ongoing work.
  10. For established IP's I would have all of the developers review all related material to them. So for Elder Scrolls as well Fallout I would have each team go back and replay the previous titles. Then I would demand of them an essay outlining game mechanics, art style, narrative dynamics, etc...
  11. Once they have reviewed the IP's and provided their findings I would then have them discuss the ins and outs of the franchises within their project groups. Once they outline the core attributes I would then allow them to think of ways to improve upon them, but not retract from the core elements.
  12. Once I'm pleased with the current state of the teams I would then send them to work on developing their titles.
  13. As development moves on I would have the development teams generate small game demos for release to the public. That way the customers can get a free sneak peak at the ongoing projects.
  14. I would then start a marketing campaign that revolves around actual game play, and then bring on YouTube personalities to promote the content. I would also release a public statement declaring the companies intentions, goals, and expectations of the projects so that consumers are completely aware of BGS' new path.
