Fallout 1 mod Fallout Fixt - next release will be some time in Jan 2020

I expect that code to be fully lost within the years, way before Beth acquired the rights to Fallout.

Some ex BlackIsle member will have it. I had friends working in games companies, and those dudes had no problem keeping a "personal" copy of the game code, or art assets, etc...they had no intention to sell or pass the work onto other companies, but needed it to show their "work" to potential employers. People aren't searched when they leave the building.

Next up on Fox News: how a lowly computer programmer sold source code for millions on Ebay and then had to pay it all back for copyright infringement!

For those getting worldmap crashes, please run this and extract into your Fallout FIXT folder to see if it helps. It should resolve all crashes related to Mutant Random Encounters, and hopefully other crashes as well. Say YES if asked to overwrite files!

https://www.dropbox.com/s/mi75m6shhhwh6y0/FalloutFIXTpatch.exe

You can verify it's installed correctly by checking:
[Fallout FIXT]\DATA\ART\SKILLDEX - here you should see ALCOHOL.FRM
[Fallout FIXT]\DATA\ART\ITEMS - here you should see SPIKED.FRM

I know for a fact that this will reduce the number of crashes and resolve some crashes, but I don't know if it will completely eliminate them. Fingers crossed.

Well, thanks. The usual plasma setup. This time I cheated a bit with 5 operations and because you set the prices so huge, I cheated there too and gambled money

You fixed the restocking of caps of npcs, so technically you could trade the 5k cannons for caps, but that would take too long. The money loaner still instafills up his 1000 caps again (and he is the only one that you can still steal the equipment back, I think), but before I end up transfering all that cash, I'd rather put some points into gambling. I had 320k caps and had to decide between 9 Str 8 Int and 10 Str 9 Int... still not enough money for the last operation, and I couldn't even operate Charisma. That's how high you set the bargain.

Well, we all know you don't need 10 points at everything, so it was just cheated perfection of mine. Nevertheless, I did end up doing what I always do. Not caps are my currency, stimpaks are xD

Most stimpaks I ever got in a run was like 420 and that was before someone invented the longer runs.

I love this game, but I'm such a retarded scavenger :P

Since you can't trade with Lori, if you edited Lori that she's tradable, by the standard game mechanics, it's pretty sure that you can trade goods back for your cash. If you do that, you gotta make the new items she gets non stealable or just make her non stealable at all. Nobody cares about stealing the little meds she's got. Obviously except me, because she has stimpak and I think super stimpak too

Did you check what my followers carry? :P

What is the price progression for the surgery anyways?

+10000 each time. I didn't test it much, just picked an amount that seemed high enough to offset the major change in game balance, but low enough to be doable for someone who loots everything. Maybe I was wrong

So like cost would be:
3000
13000
23000
Etc

I did put in a little fun thing though, in her dialog she says you can get free operations if you've been with the Brotherhood for ten years, so if the player gets that far into the game, they do get them for free. :)

Schezza not all of them, but I did notice that Tycho had like thousands of rounds of all ammos.

Schezza did you have problems with Ian disappearing while running around?

In high school my buddy found a black plastic bag behind some bushes, that had like 20 porn VHS tapes in it.

They were quite amusing if watched on fast forward.

Personally if you ask me, I don't buy that the Fallout source code is lost. That era was almost two decades ago, but still for it to be unavailable and unfindable I don't believe. They may have just not looked very hard because Fuck Bethesda.

Yeah, Tycho has enough ammo for World War 3
But Fallout 2 fixed my Scavenging skills. Just not sure if I should be happy or sad about it.

No, Ian himself never disappeared, but the usual hidings from elevators or ladders still happen, but one qs/ql and you're done.

Mutant fix was nice,[spoiler:78659e9311] finally cleared out Junktown, Hub, Boneyard and the rest. Close to 21, so might as well grind a little bit before I'll do the last 2 quests. Oversaved the Junktown bitch saving quest, so I couldn't finish it; but that guy is still standing around, as well as the drug kids in Hub's Drugdealers backroom. As well as the two day-only NPCs at the caravans. Children of the Hub are still alive, they're supposed to, but makes me want to kill em, but I can't, I'll lose karma for that and stupid kids are there too :x

Boneyard middle zone with the gang was untouched as well, might be wrong but when I first ninjatested the invasion, I went to Boneyard and I believe that zone was empty.[/spoiler:78659e9311]
That reminds me. All wpns usable didn't work as well, is it supposed to, or didnt it work because I had it customized? Katja equips the cannon but doesn't fire. She fires laser rifle, but has no skill; although she did that in default version already. Other npcs don't touch those kind of weapons at all.

I also noticed that Miles always has 500-800 caps. You can steal it, save, load and he is filled up again. Although there should only be a handfull of people knowing that. I mean, who robs the same person twice?

Check that out. How big is the chance of not hitting Tycho and getting that huge of a roll? And no, I didn't reposition myself, that is a legit screenshot, my best one all those years :)

GL getting to 10 years. I'm 2.5 years in and right now I'm grinding a bit in the northwest and getting radiated everytime for 14. And only 7 radaways left :(
I don't think the random mutants around the hub come with the radiation creatures though.

I can't believe I never hit lvl21 before. There's a first time for everything, thanks mutant invasion :P

well, my hope is that someone who were with Tim Cain or Brian Fargo may still have something in floppy on an attic, who knows? :P

Probably, but distributing it would violate the agreement with Bethesda, as far as I know. Though I could be wrong.

btw, Are you the same person as felipepepe on RPGCodex?

Did you read my post? My game was unplayable, therefore your question is invalid
Hooray! This is good news.

Yeah because I tested your SLOT01 save (empty desert encounter map) and it didn't crash any more when leaving the map.

That little patch doesn't include the flamethrower fix, but when I release 6.1.5 or 6.2 or whatever, that will include it.

Please let me know if you get any more crashes. But don't kill me, if you'd be so kind.

Well, played for 3 hours and finished game and didn't have a single crash. WHAT DID YOU DO??? :P

What else did you change? cant really be that the knuckles caused the worldmap crashes

I'm a bit disappointed though, after blowing children, I couldn't even talk to the overseer anymore? If that is unintended, then probably because of the changed timelines. More work for you

Well, thanks for letting me finish the game. Last time, months ago, base computer was bugged :violent:

MAGIC!

Schezza said:

Actually yeah it can -- what it was is that I created a new custom "on the ground" graphics for Spiked Knuckles item, so that it wasn't just a box. Unfortunately, I included the settings for the item and pointer to the graphics, but not the frickin' graphics file. So the game would try to display something that didn't exist.

This would cause crashes when: Killing a mutant and the item drops (such as if you explode them or kill with Alien Blaster) and, apparently (and which I wouldn't expect) if it was in your inventory and you exited a map.

Anyway that's why mutant encounters would crash, because the green ones spawn with Spiked Knuckles. WHEW long-winded, sorry.

UGH I know that was so shitty... "Yay I'm almost done with the game... now just to initiate the self-destruct sequence...." -- BAM LOCKUP -- "Dude really?!?"

Didn't send you any saves yet, because I played my restarted game for a long time instead. No worldmap crashes at all so I consider it to be fixed, at least in my case.

Any thought of adding the Vipers and the Jackals to the game? Lots of NPCs have dialogue about the Vipers...even Killian.

BTW, that's one drawback of FO2 over FO1 -- no "ASK ABOUT" button. I love that feature in FO1.

Crashes resolved with the exe patch I posted a few posts back, or just the four settings files from earlier? If it was the four settings files I'd definitely like your sysinfo log. Is the game installed in Program Files?

Vipers and Jackals yes definitely, but restorations are low priority unfortunately. First comes engine conversion and bug fixes. Feel free to add that to Suggestions in the bugs wiki though, so I don't forget :)

I understand about Ask Me About... all things considered, I consider it an acceptable casualty. Here's why: you're losing that one feature, but gaining at least a few dozen features from using a better engine. Beyond that, it will bring all other modders the ability to contribute to FIXT, since very few people know how to mod Fallout 1. It also makes it much easier for me to mod the game, not to mention I'll have access to make changes that are literally impossible in the originals engine. Finally, "Let me ask you about..." can be added to the end of all dialogs anyway. It's a bit of a messy restoration of that feature, but I think it'll be nice to know exactly what information they can reply on, instead of just guessing. Unfortunately restoring those question trees will be an extensive task to complete.

nice new sig, bro. In all honesty, I don't even want to know what that normally means to English people

Well well, can't say I'm 100% satisfied. I did carry those around all the time, because NPCs are too dumb; just dropped them on the ground at the last savegame. However, this would not explain, why I would crash at the start within 60 days, without doing anything (I did so much testing, I might remember it wrong). Except, if normal knuckles would be able to trigger the event as well; sometimes you get knuckles at the start and sometimes not, I believe (for certainty you get between 1-2 pistols).

Anyway, would be nice if crashes would disappear now and I actually did my part to it :)

I already talked the stupid out of doing something stupid, but you can talk to him again, if you want to hear a normal, nicely pronounced "You must be joking." First time playing F1 in English, so I actually listened to what they had to say.

yeah and if you'd click the unknown name at log files, it would crash too ^^

You tried asking the master something?

Sduibek, is there actually a way for you to automatically make a list with all questions-answers of all NPCs, without any work involved? I'm sure there is a funny thing or two that I've missed. Which file?

It means oral sex, hahaha. Where are you from, by the way? I wish I could say I'm something interesting from somewhere interesting, but nope - just a white boy from USA. Yawn.

Well, not "no work involved", but it wouldn't be too hard really. TarkinMX could probably script a copy-paste to compile them all, I bet. He's good at ActionScript.

"Ask Me About" is a section at the end of dialog files for all talking head characters, and Ian/Tycho/Katja. (DATA\TEXT\ENGLISH\DIALOG) The rest of the Ask Me About entries are stored in OBJ_DUDE.MSG:
