Fallout: New Vegas screenshots

Yep.

I am really no graphic whore and usually I don't care about a games appearance, but this engine sure is dated. Also - the lack of shadows is just "meh".
Actualy what disturbs me more is the "lack" of animations.

Seriously for me well done animations are a lot more important then just simply good visuals. Of course animations are part of the visuals. But I dont need super perfect high power demanding shaders with HDR lighting everywhere. A engine has to fit the game and such. THough I never thought that the way how Bethesda used the engine was that well for a Fallout game. Feelt to much like a FPS game for me and here graphic is usualy a important part. I mean yeah ... everyone played Crysis cause of the story. Somewhat realistic or believable animations though add a lot to a game even when it has a bit outdated graphics.

I realy hope that Obsidian at least is tweaking a bit the engine and correct a few visuals here and there. Like the Powerarmor for example and the movements.

Why does this game look so fugly? They must be console version captures or really low-end PC machine. And I'm talkin' 640x480 low.

I'll guess, we can forget about it by now. :) Fallout 1 style of weapons are dead, just like some other stuff.

Well, at least the clothes are much better than the ones in Fallout 3.

I like the idea of having american retro gun's like the Garand in the game. It would be even better if they had a *pimped for the future* look, so they could fit into the timeline.

The gun on the last picture is supposed to be an M1 Garand, I think.

Fits FO timeline (in that it was created before the diverging FO timeline started), but is somewhat out of place compared to FO1's approach to weapons.

Thought people were a bit peeved you could get WWII guns in Fallout Tactics. The reasoning being how could a gun last that long and still work?
However this is countered by the Garand being one smexy rifle so I guess it works out in the end. :P

I really like the new clothing, the NCR armour looks really sweet and so do the robots. The main problem being the lighting as it leaves the textures looking flat and can't really be fixed, though as someone above said Fallout 3 looks better in motion (still not great though).

Also judging by the Garand screenie they took a page out of the Re-Animated mod and made it so the rifle aiming animation doesen't bend your spine in weird and disturbing ways.

All I need now is a Berserker and I'm good.

EDIT: Is that an M1 Garand in the picture where he is shooting robots?

These supermutants don't look far from them and yes, that is indeed an M1 Garand.

I also thought it was an interesting touch that they modelled the AR-15/M-16s with the super early brown stock and handguard. As I recall, they were later green for a brief time and then black, which is what we are most familiar with.

And boy do those graphics look rough. Here's hoping the rest of the game makes up for it...

Wolf, only the AR-15's ever had brown/green furniture. I swear I've seen the picture you're referring to but I can't seem to find it anywhere.

Ya, definitely an M1, although it looks like they got the length of the front assembly a bit off as they made it look flush with the barrel. the gas tube/cylinder is actually a little bit shorter.

Another thing I picked up on, it doesn't look like the bolt has cycled at all. It looks like the operating rod is still fully forward (ie the bolt would still be closed making this impossible) even though in the screen it shows you with brass flying. It's really hard to tell with the quality of the screen.

By the way...

... I hope, that this screenshot shows the possibilitie of destroying Helios One. Because else... Nothing would be more worse than shooting such a big fat command and conquer ion canon into the solar panels and nothing happens to them.

^ Not to mention that the screen looks like it's from an early-2000s game.

But fucking YES, radial menus. Thank you, Obsidian, for improving the horrible FO3 interface.

If properly manufactured and then stored, it's not a big issue. I've got several firearms I care for that are over twice my age and look like they just rolled off the assembly line.

Of course, your Garand will not have seen constant use since the war. Then it would indeed have been trashed a long time ago (or nearly all parts, including barrel and probably even the receiver, would have to be swapped to keep it going).

Talking about the last screenshot, it's really dumb, for any game, to hold the rifle that hit to shoot at something that's so close...

And this is a Fallout game! Where tactics are supposed to matter (a bit)?

Lol.[/rant]

Seriously though, it looks VERY stupid.

Also no shadows make it look like it's 2002 all over again. I can't understand how they marketeer this stuff for the kids...

Everyone knows that roleplaying games of epic greatness don't need good graphics!

True. Fallout didn't exactly look the best for it's time, but it was awesome. However, most modern-day reviewers are graphics and action whores.

No shadows whatsoever? Not even a little static lighting or shadow circles under the characters?

What year is this?

Good use of dynamic lighting and shadows can turn an otherwise mediocre-looking game (models/artwork) into something fairly impressive. Take S.T.A.L.K.E.R. for example.

FO1/2 may have been 2D, but at least you could say the artwork and overall design were quality. There is no quality in these screenshots and it's really, really obvious.

What's up with everyone on here bitching about graphics?

I'm sure there will be plenty of more worthy aspects of the game to bitch about.

Not to mention that there are character shadows, just like in Oblivion and Fallout 3. It is not dynamic lighting like in amazing Stalker series, but it is enough. When I play FO3 (right now actually, just entered Point Lookout) I never think about some fucking shadows or whatever anyway.

Fallout 3 looks good enough :P
